Important Information on Admission to the College
Drogheda Institute of Further Education
GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Applications are invited from those who have completed Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied. Mature Students are also welcome to apply. A small number of courses have more specificentry requirements which are detailed on the relevant pages of this prospectus. All students will be interviewed to ascertain their suitability for their chosen course.
FEES Updated fees and additional fees for specific courses are detailed on the college website.
REGISTRATION Registration for all students takes place in late August/early September. Students will be notified by post in advance of their registration day.
Students will not be officially registered with the college until all fees are paid or proof of exemption status is submitted e.g. copy of SUSI grant approval, medical card or proof of Back to Education allowance.
QQI THIRD LEVEL ENTRY SYSTEM Drogheda Institute of Further Education provides a wide range of courses at
NOTEModule and course listings in this prospectus are subject to change.
QQI (formerly FETAC) levels 5 and 6 along with a range of other professional qualifications as detailed in the individual pages of this prospectus. A proportion of our students join the workforce directly after completing their studies in DIFE while others progress to Third Level through the QQI entry system. This system allows students who did not gain a place on their chosen Third Level course through the Leaving Certificate CAO points system to complete a one year QQI course and apply to their chosen course via this alternative route.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR IRISH / EU CITIZENS Students should apply online at www.dife.ie
Applications are accepted from 1st January each year for the first round of interviews held in March. Students applying after the March interviews will be interviewed in late May and those applying after May will be interviewed in late August/early September.Interviewees will be invited for interview via text and email so it is important that a working mobile number and email address are carefully recorded on application.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS DIFE welcomes and values students from all over the world. All courses in DIFE are conducted through English. All students must prove that they have sufficient competency in English. The following administrative arrangements also apply:
All international students must provide appropriate identification documentation and comply fully with the residency requirements of the Irish Government.
Non-EU citizens will be required to pay an economic fee as determined by the Department of Education and Skills. This fee is presently €3,653 per year (subject to change).
Some categories of Non-EU citizens, such as persons with refugee status or young people under 18 years of age at course commencement may be exempt from the economic fee.
Applications can only be made by Non-EU citizens if they are resident in Ireland at the time of application.
The college will not engage in any way in the process of visa application.
STUDENTS WITH ADDITIONAL NEEDS Students with additional needs should make this information known to the college so that additional supports can be accessed. Declaring an additional need will not disadvantage a student in terms of being offered a place on their chosen course.

A I MThe aim of this course is to offer students a unique opportunity to develop the essential skills to design and manufacture a range of fine handcrafted furniture. A I MThe aim of this course is to provide learners with a basic understanding of Mechanical Engineering. Students will gain practical skills to pursue a career in the Engineering industry and have an introduction to theory necessary for entry into Third Level education. Students will also have the opportunity to study QQI Level 5 Maths required for entry into Engineering courses at Third Level. A I MThis one year course is designed to introduce students to the dynamic, creative field of Multimedia. This one year course prepares students for entry into all Third Level Colleges of Art and Design or allows students to progress directly into careers within the Fashion industry. The course puts huge empha-sis on the NCAD portfolio brief which is completed as part of the course. This brief forms the basis of portfolio work required for entry to all colleges of Art and Design.

A I M
This is a second year fashion programme offered to students who complete QQI Level 5 Fashion Design. It allows the learner to advance their design, technical and creative skills. It gives the learner a stronger understanding of the fashion industry and provides them with the skills to succeed in the world of fashion. QQI Level 6 fashion has a greater emphasis on sewing and pattern making to facilitate learners who wish to establish their own business or label.

Students will develop medical knowledge to recognise common illnesses and communication skills to liaise with pharmacists and counsel patients on healthcare issues, including the various healthcare schemes available in Ireland.
Students will gain experience in dispensing procedures and practices and will be able to interpret prescriptions and prepare medicines for dispensing. They will be able to maintain patient records and operate pharmacy computer systems. They will also be able to supply non-prescription medicines in accordance with legislation and guidelines.
