Day 1: Wed, Sept 06 – HONOLULU. Depart Honolulu.
Day 2: Thur, Sept 07 – IN TRANSIT.
Day 3: Fri, Sept 08 – FRANCE: Paris. Upon arrival in Paris, clear passport control and collect your luggage. Meet your Europe-based tour manager and transfer to your hotel. The balance of the day is yours to relax or to jump start your visual and culinary exploration of the “City of Light.” We suggest a visit to Montmartre, with the Sacré-Coeur Basilica rendering a unique view of Paris. An independent dinner this evening allows you the choice of a light crêpe or a leisurely Parisian meal.
Day 4: Sat, Sept 09 – FRANCE: Paris. Spend an entire day visiting Paris. Your tour manager will point out the main sights, such as Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre Museum (open daily except Tuesdays), Eiffel Tower, Opera (Palais Garnier) and the Galeries Lafayette department store. A great way to begin your sightseeing is by joining the optional Seine River Cruise excursion for views of Notre Dame Cathedral and other landmarks along the river. Tonight, join your fellow tour members for a “Welcome to Europe/Get-acquainted” dinner at a festive Paris bistro. (B, D)
Day 5: Sun, Sept 10 – FRANCE: Paris – Burgundy Wine Region – Beaune. Bid farewell to Paris, and travel through the Burgundy Wine Region to the historic, walled city of Beaune, one of France’s major wine centers going back to pre-Roman times. After check-in at your hotel, explore this intriguing town. An independent dinner affords you the opportunity to visit a wine cellar and to sample the regional cuisine. (B)
Day 6: Mon, Sept 11 – FRANCE: Besançon – Alsace Wine Region / SWITZERLAND: Swiss Alps. Visit the charming town of Besançon and, in the afternoon, enter Switzerland at the Rhine port of Basel. Spend the next two nights in one of the scenic villages surrounded by the unsurpassed splendor of the Swiss Alps. (B, D)
Day 7: Tue, Sept 12 – SWITZERLAND: Stans – Lucerne – Swiss Alps. Feast your eyes on the snow-capped mountains, with the imposing peaks of Rigi and Pilatus towering over lovely Lake Lucerne. Stop in the village of Stans for the optional Swiss Mountain excursion by funicular and cable car. Spend the afternoon in Lucerne, with its Old Town Wall and Lion Monument. Before returning to your hotel for dinner, consider an optional Swiss Lake Boat Ride excursion. (B, D)
Day 8: Wed, Sept 13 – SWITZERLAND: Lugano / ITALY: Verona. Today, you will pierce the mountains via the 11-mile-long Gotthard Tunnel on the way to subtropical Lake Lugano, often referred to as the “Rio de Janeiro of the Old Continent.” After lunch, cross the border into Italy and proceed to legendary Verona, of “Romeo and Juliet” fame. Experience an authentic Italian meal during an independent dinner in Verona before transferring to your hotel. (B)
Day 9: Thur, Sept 14 – ITALY: Venice. Today features a full day visit to romantic Venice, famous for its canals, gondolas and magnificent St. Mark’s Cathedral. A guided walking tour will get you oriented. If you have your heart set on a gondola ride, the cost is about €40 ($45) per person based on six persons sharing a gondola. The tour manager will offer an optional Venice Dinner excursion before returning to your Verona hotel. (B)
Day 10: Fri, Sept 15 – ITALY: Lucca – Pisa – Montecatini-Terme. This morning, travel to Tuscany, with a stop in medieval Lucca. Continue to Pisa, famous for its Leaning Tower. Spend two nights in the nearby spa resort of Montecatini-Terme, with its pastel-tinted buildings on palm lined streets. (B, D)
Day 11: Sat, Sept 16 – ITALY: Florence – Montecatini-Terme. This day is dedicated to the art and architecture of Florence. The first masterpieces you will see during the guided walking tour are the Duomo, bronze baptistery doors by Ghiberti, and Giotto’s Bell Tower. The rest of the day is yours to explore Florence at your own pace. This evening, enjoy dining on local specialties at a vineyard restaurant. After dinner, return to Montecatini-Terme. (B, D)
Day 12: Sun, Sept 17 – ITALY: Siena – Rome. This morning, visit the beautiful, medieval town of Siena, with its magnificent Duomo and Piazza del Campo, one of Europe’s prettiest squares. Explore on your own, or take the optional Siena Duomo excursion. An included dinner will be provided either at a restaurant along the way or at your Rome area hotel where you will spend the next three nights. (B, D)
Day 13: Mon, Sept 18 – ITALY: Rome. The morning sightseeing features famous sights such as the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Arch of Constantine, Pantheon and Piazza Navona. This afternoon, explore on your own, or join the optional Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel excursion, including St. Peter’s Basilica. Tonight, at your hotel, enjoy the “Farewell Dinner” with fellow tour members. (B, D)
Day 14: Tue, Sept 19 – ITALY: Rome. Transfer to the area around the Colosseum for another full day to explore the wonders of Rome. This afternoon, your tour manager will offer the optional Colosseum excursion for a guided tour through the interior of this colossal structure and the Roman Forum. This evening, savor your final meal of the tour during independent dinner or the optional Rome Dinner excursion. (B)
Day 15: Wed, Sept 20 – ITALY – HONOLULU. Your Paris, Tuscany and Rome Tour has come to an end. Return flight back to Honolulu. Aloha and Welcome Home! (B)
Walking Expectations: Due to limited access to city centers by bus, large city distances, high traffic, and hilly landscape, expect to walk more than four miles per day, often encountering uneven surfaces, steps and inclines.
Highest Elevation: 3855 feet in the St. Gotthard Tunnel. Some tours take the pass in nice weather and this is 6916 feet, but if you inform the tour manager of elevation concerns at the beginning of the tour, they will take the tunnel. Hotels in Switzerland are located as high as 2900 feet.
