TIME  CAPSULE    

 Sioux  Empire  Federal  Credit  Union  will  be  creating  a  time  capsule  to  commemorate,  celebrate  and  document  the  Credit  Union’s  75th  Anniversary.    The  time  capsule  will  be  opened  on  Wednesday,  August  25,  2038  to  mark  the  100th  anniversary  of  Sioux  Empire  Federal  Credit  Union.      The  time  capsule  should  include  items  that  document  people,  events,  places  or  the  culture  of  the  Sioux  Empire  community  today.      Description  of  the  capsule:  The  time  capsule  will  be  a  5.5”X22”  cylindrical  capsule  made  of  stainless  steel.  The  capsule  is  to  be  displayed  in  the  lobby  of  the  Credit  Union  until  it  is  opened  in  2038.      Guidelines  for  time  capsule  contents:  Sioux  Empire  Federal  Credit  Union  will  choose  items  as  submitted  by  members  of  the  Credit  Union  and  residents  of  the  Sioux  Empire  area  community.    Considered  items  must  follow  the  guidelines  as  set  below:      

• Paper  Items  –  letters,  essays,  magazines,  documents,  newspaper  stories  should  be  photocopied  onto  archival  quality  paper  

• Photographs  –  black  and  white  is  preferable.  Printed  on  fiber-­‐based  paper  • Textiles  –  should  be  clean  and  insect  free.  Cotton  and  polyester  are  

preferable  as  they  are  stable.  • Coins  • Technology  –  Includes  computers,  tablets,  phones,  memory  devices,  etc.  Need  

to  leave  instructions  for  operation  and  all  support  materials  (USB  cables,  power  sources,  etc.)  with  these  items  as  they  will  be  obsolete  by  the  time  the  capsule  is  opened.  

• All  items  must  fit  within  the  time  capsule  (see  the  capsule  dimensions  above)    Things  that  will  not  be  considered  for  inclusion  include,  but  are  not  limited  to:  

• Newsprint  and  yellow  tablet  paper  –  these  papers  are  poor  quality  and  will  deteriorate  quickly.  

• Laminated  or  dry-­‐mount  paper  items  • Anything  that  includes  writing  with  gel  ink  and  felt  tip  markers  as  these  tend  

to  fade  • Avoid  nylon,  silk,  and  wool,  as  these  items  easily  break  down  and  release  

sulfur  • Traditional  alkaloid  batteries,  as  these  have  a  tendency  to  leak  acid  

• Food  stuffs  of  any  sort,  including  canned  food,  freeze  dried  food,  etc.  • Explosives  and  ammunition  • Chemicals  • Plant  material  

   Rules  and  Regulations  

• The  Credit  Union  will  be  choosing  items  that  best  represent  life  in  the  Sioux  Falls  area  community  in  2013.    

• Sioux  Empire  Federal  Credit  Union  reserves  the  right  to  reject  any  item  for  any  reason,  including  the  considerations  as  outlined  above.      

• All  submissions  for  the  time  capsule  shall  include  a  Submission  Form  with  personal  detail  of  the  person  making  the  submission.  

• The  time  capsule  will  be  placed  in  the  lobby  of  the  3400  S  Sycamore  Branch  of  Sioux  Empire  Federal  Credit  Union.  

• The  time  capsule  will  be  opened  in  2038,  Sioux  Empire  Federal  Credit  Union’s  100th  anniversary.  

• The  time  capsule  will  be  sealed  on  September  17,  2013.  • One  copy  of  this  documentation  will  be  put  in  the  time  capsule  itself.
