ANTHEM “Now, O Death, Where Is thy Sting?” Russell NagyWestminster Choir

Now, O Death, where is thy sting? Where, O Death, thy victory? The Son is risen and Death is driven away. Death is swallowed up today, Swallowed up in victory! This is our God. In Him we trusted, And in love He saved us; Give glory to His name. From this day praise Him forever: Jesus Christ is risen today! Now, O Death, where is thy plague? Your destruction now, O Grave? For God who ransoms, redeemed His captive today. Every tear He wipes away; All disgrace He takes away. From this day! This is our Lord, god’s faithful witness. He is first-born from the dead Who rules the kings of earth. He who loves, He who has freed us: Jesus Christ is risen today! Alleluia! Christ is our victory!

* HYMN “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” Tune: DUKE STREETarr. James Biery

1. I know that my Redeemer liveswhat joy the blest assurance gives! He lives, he lives who once was dead;he lives, my everlasting Head.

2. He lives, to bless me with his love;he lives, to plead for me above;he lives, my hungry soul to feed;he lives, to help in time of need.

3. He lives, and grants me daily breath;he lives, and I shall conquer death;he lives, my mansion to prepare;he lives, to lead me safely there.

4. He lives; all glory to his name;he lives, my Savior still the same;what joy the blest assurance gives:I know that my Redeemer lives!

SERMON “Difficult to Believe” Greg Jones

CHORAL RESPONSE “Hallelujah” (from Messiah) G. F. Handel

Hallelujah! for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ: and He shall reign for ever and ever. King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, Hallelujah!

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

We trust in Jesus Christ, God with us in human flesh, who proclaimed the reign of God.He preached good news to the poor and release to the captives; He healed the sick and ate with outcasts; He forgave sinners and called all people to repent and believe. Condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified. But God raised him from the dead, vindicating his life, breaking the power of sin and evil, and delivering us from death to eternal life. Westminster’s Easter Breakfast – Join Westminster friends for breakfast in Community Hall today before or after worship, from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. Menu will include cheese soufflé, grits and sausage casserole, sticky buns, fresh fruit, cereal, juice, coffee and tea. Cost is $5 for ages 15 and older, $3 for ages 6-14, and $1 for children under 5.

Easter Egg Hunt Today. Join us today between services for the annual Easter Egg Hunt! All Westminster children 10 and under are invited to participate in this fun-filled tradition. We hunt eggs each year because they remind us of God’s Easter surprise to the women who went to the tomb and found it empty! Join us in Classroom 6 at 10:10 a.m. We’ll make a ‘basket’ and then look for surprises outside.

The flowers in the Sanctuary today are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Nick Marcopulos from Cathy Higgins.

Sanctuary Flowers - Consider giving the flowers for Sunday worship to remember or honor loved ones, or to celebrate an event, while expressing praise and thanksgiving to God. Please contact Linda Watson during business hours at 302-571-6719 or [email protected]. Available dates for flowers are May 23, 30 and June 27.

Are you wearing a nametag? Whether you are a longtime member or new to the church, wearing a nametag provides others the opportunity to meet you, greet you by name, and for you to become more familiar with others at church. Nametags and markers are in baskets at all major entrances.

“Westminster to Go” Audio tapes and DVD’s of recent Westminster worship services are available at the front desk. Printed sermons are available on the literature tables and at www.wpc.org.

“Listening to the Lessons” is cancelled for April 6 and will resume on Tuesday, April 13.

Please remember in your prayers:

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan often seem far away, and we may neglect to realize that Americans, as well as Iraqis, Afghans and members of coalition forces, continue to die each day. As Christians, we are called to pray for the spreading of peace and justice and an end to violence. If someone in your family is serving in these wars, please let us know, so that we may include that person on our prayer list. BE “GREENER” WITH US!

As Christians, we are called upon to protect God's creation. At Westminster, we can care for God’s beautiful Earth not just on Earth Day but year-round:

Read the Chimes online at www.wpc.org instead of having it mailed to our homes. Send a request to [email protected] to sign up for email notifications when the issues are available for download.

Subscribe to the Weekly Word, our electronic newsletter, instead of picking up the printed sheet of announcements each Sunday. Sign up at www.wpc.org.

Recycle our Sunday bulletins by placing them in the blue bins outside the sanctuary. Bring our paper to church for recycling. Place in the green and yellow “Paper Retriever”

dumpsters in the main parking lot.

We continue to seek and implement new “green” initiatives at Westminster. For example, with the new format of the Sunday bulletins, we are now saving up to 1,200 sheets of paper each week...or 62,400 sheets each year!

On Sunday, April 18, we will have a special emphasis in worship on “Caring for God’s Creation.” Also, join us on Friday, April 23, for a screening of the film Food Inc. at 7:00 p.m. in Grace Hall and check out our

environmentally-focused ReNew Vacation Bible School this summer from July 26-30.

15

But ask the animals, and they will teach you; the birds of the air, and they will tell you; ask the plants of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of every human being. – Job 12:7-10

“GREATEST HITS”FROM CHURCH, OPERA, AND MUSICAL THEATRE

FRIDAY, APRIL 16AT 8:00 P.M.

A number of brave souls ventured out on that snowy night in February and were thrilled by this dazzling concert by our soloists and choir. By popular demand, we’re presenting the program again this month. From Puccini to Jerome Kern, Rigoletto to Camelot, sacred to profane – this is a performance not to be missed!
