• Today, many are burned out, spiritually bored,
and living with dull hearts.
• We need a breakthrough in our hearts.
• If the ax is dull,
And one does not sharpen the edge,
Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success. Eccl.10:10

• Encountering the Jesus of the Bible is the
answer to burnout and powerlessness.
• The revelation of His excellence and
magnificence is the sustaining power of our
hearts and the transforming power in our
ministry to others.

• The key to this revelation is HUNGER!
• For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the
hungry soul with goodness. Psalm 107:9
• He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty. Lk.1:53
•
Hunger is the currency of the kingdom of God.Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for
righteousness, For they shall be filled . Mt.5:6

• Hunger motivates, compels the heart to
pursue.
• Hunger is a universal cry that comes up and
out of a human heart to find the ultimate
reality—truth.

• The things we seek—they are not universal.
• Most of the “attractions” of life are in realityDISTRACTION.
• The hunger, the ache of our soul for God isoften squelched by other pursuits.
• Many of these pursuits are not ‘evil’ by nature
but they do open the door to evil because weare too dull to discern the direction we areheading.

• We must allow hunger to ripen in our soulsand stop medicating our ache with lesserpleasures.
• Hunger when ripened leads to a passionatepursuit of God.
• The passionate pursuit of God is life’s only
satisfying pleasure. When we love being withHim as much as being with anyone or anythingelse we are on our way to fulfillment.

• Which leads us to the PURPOSE of fasting.
• Fasting is the abstaining from food(or other
PLEASURES) for a spiritual purpose.
• Our purpose is to ‘sharpen’ our spirit. To put
us in tune, in sync with the Holy Spirit.
•
