Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. (Matt 28:19)

SCRIPTURAL SUPPORT After this, Jesus and his disciples
went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptised. (Jn 3:22)
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. (Mk 16:15-16)
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:38)
INFANT BAPTISM Explicit testimony in 2nd century and implicit in
1st century. One of those listening was a woman named
Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message. When she and the members of her household were baptised, she invited us to her home… (Acts 16:14-15)
At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptised. (Acts 16:33)
Crispus, the synagogue ruler, and his entire household believed in the Lord; and many of the Corinthians who heard him believed and were baptised. (Acts 18:8)
Yes, I also baptised the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don't remember if I baptised anyone else. (1Cor1:16)
Infant Baptism cont. Baptism is called the “circumcision of
Christ” “For in Christ all the fullness of the
Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, “ (Col 2: 9-11)
Circumcision occurred 8 days after birth.
Babies did not understand the significance of circumcision – it was the parents responsibility for the spiritual well being of their children.
We inoculate children against “physical disease”, is there no logical parallel for their spiritual protection?
Original Sin
The clearest revelation on original sin is found in the Epistles of St. Paul, especially Romans 5:12-20.
St. Paul writes:Then as one man's trespass led to
condemnation for all men, so one man's act of righteousness leads to acquittal
and life for all men. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man's obedience many will be
made righteous. [Rom 5:18-19]
Adam's original disobedience made us all sinners, while
Christ's obedience on the Cross saves us from our sins. St. Paul
also writes:Therefore as sin came into the world
through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because
all men sinned. [Rom 5:12]
St Paul
Original Sin
• What was the original sin?• Disobedience.• Wanting to be God and
rejecting the gift from God.
• Where does original sin come from?
• Inherited
ADOPTION and GRACE But when the fullness of
time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to ransom those under the law, so that we might receive adoption. As proof that you are children, God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!” So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.” (Galatians 4:4-7)
It is a “gift” and we need only to ask.
