2. STRATEGY" AND PLAN OF OPERATlONS:

a. selection of D - D a y ~ I t was originally intended to attacka different target on this date, but because of unfavorable wea&herconditions in that area. the original attack was cancelled and the present p l ~ ~ effected. On the basis of a favorable weather forecast for

the Osaka area, finn decision wae made to attack on 15 June.

b. Importance of the 'Targe t: As a result of 3 previous in celmiary strikes aaainst Osaka, i t was decided that the remaining areato be attacked would not merit more th.::m a wing effort . In order to~ t i l i z ~ the planned force to g reate r advantage, 3 mean points of impactin the city of Amagasaki were selected in addition to 2 points to be

~ t t a c k e d in Osaka. The points to be attacked were located in the heartof Amagasaki and in areas adjacent to both sides of the Shin Yodo RiverIn Osaka. The importance of the areas to be banbed in the Osaka was in..diceted by the e x t ~ n s i v e firebreaks and cleared sectors around the fac

tories. Amagasakl. a highly important suburb of OsaM. was known tocontain a very large ctude and synthetic oil refinery. 3 stratagicallYimportant power plants. aircr9.ft and aircraft parts plants. and semeheavy industrial installations.
