PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of the program is to enhance the professional and personal performance, effectiveness, and leadership skills for those with recognized leadership potential and/or emerging workforce leaders interested in further developing their leadership capacity as valuable members of the workforce.

The program is being provided by COTC’s Workforce Development Innovation Center and the Phoenix Consulting Company. It will consist of a series of experiential workshops. A unique aspect of the program is that each session will include an interactive session with notable, local leaders sharing their experiences and philosophies on leadership.

THE PROGRAM:The combination of purpose and specific goals is essential to performance. Each is symbiotic to the other for remaining relevant and vital. This stackable course/cohort approach is designed for the sessions to be taken in succession, each building upon the purpose and goals of the prior session. The participants, through this experience, will embrace individual and team-based performance, discovering what differentiates various levels of individual leadership and team performance, and also what they can do to enhance their effectiveness.

•February 15Interpersonal Communication, Conflict Resolution, and Compliance & Character: The Written & Unwritten Laws, Rules, & Ethics relates to one-to-one, small group, and large group dynamics, providing participants with engagement opportunities for peer-to-peer, supervisor-to-employee, and management interactions. An emphasis on listening styles will provide additional connectivity of this session back to the first session, and then build upon the second session as the participants further learn to apply their preferred leadership style and temperament to their communication style. The session then carefully details conflict as a natural aspect of human interaction which stems from unmet needs and factors such as clear instruction, inclusion, stressors, pace, changes in morale, uncertainty, and other variables. A leader’s ability to effectively address conflict can galvanize a team. Well-managed conflict that resolves a situation while leaving each person’s dignity intact positively impacts employee retention.

Distinguished panelists will be invited to join the participants for a special leadership roundtable each session, dedicated to empowering them to become champions for change, proactively creating readiness in themselves; prepared to influence their behaviors by first influencing their attitudes and beliefs. This inspirational assembly will :

- build a culture of continual learning and professional development within the participants;

- foster relationships with like-minded, like-valued emerging leaders; commit to behavior-modeling as leaders; and

- promote positive change within the participants while achieving personal and professional measurable targets and performance expectations and goals.

ADDED VALUE:We will have a conversation in advance with the supervisor of each participant to note recognized potential from his/her perspective. We will also engage with the participants, carefully reviewing and monitoring their interest, what they hope to learn and accomplish, and their personal leadership development plan.
