CRAS is Fin Fan of Soda Blasting

We are well underway in 2016 having concluded an excellent year in 2015.2015 saw the Group achieve financial results significantly ahead of expectations with record revenues achieved in India and Malaysia.

The Thailand business also delivered excellent results for the year and

successfully completed a number of significant projects including the Inpex Project.

The Group is ahead of our 2017 business plan and we are now starting to think about our growth targets and strategies to 2020.

We continued to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and low levels of employee turnover in 2015.

We completed the roll out of our safety passport system and commenced development of specifications for our safety information management system which will be developed during 2016.

The shareholders have confidence in the business as demonstrated through the high levels of capital investment in 2015 and 2016. These investments include expansion of the Thailand yard, workshop and office and the establishment of a new larger yard and workshop in Jamnagar.

Some of our markets are experiencing more difficult conditions in 2016 due to a number of factors including global oil price and falling economic growth rates. The business is well placed to address these challenges however this environment does require that we manage costs at all times.

On behalf of the CR Asia Board of Directors I want to thank you all for your commitment to the company and stress that as we continue to grow safety remains our highest priority and we expect all our team to make a personal commitment to our Zero Harm safety program.

CRAS Renews SRC Term Contract CR Asia Board of Directors Meeting in Mumbai

CR Asia Board Meeting #39 was held in Mumbai on 15-16th March 2016. The meeting went very well and gave the Board the opportunity to visit the new office in Mumbai that was needed to keep pace with the growing business. The Board expressed their appreciation to Mark Stansfield (Group Managing Director) and all his team for the continued success of CR Asia and, in particular, to the significant growth that has taken place in India. The India business has almost tripled in size in the last 2 years and continues to be a significant contributor to the strong financial and QHSE performance of the Group. The Board enjoyed meeting many of the staff members in the Mumbai office during the first day and took the opportunity to connect with the Divisional Managers over dinner. A big thank you was given to Gunavel Rathinam (General Manager, India) and his team for the excellent performance of the Indian business and for hosting and organizing such a memorable Board Meeting.

CRAS Launches New Binwhip System

CRAS has recently purchased the Binwhip system, a large amount of hang-ups in Reactors that we encounter are not solid hard agglomerated Catalyst requiring jack hammering but densely compacted Catalyst requiring a bit of encouragement to become free flowing.

Even though the Catalyst itself is not hard, the walls and hang-ups still cause hazardous conditions.

The Binwhip nullifies the use of confined space entry to break up the catalyst, operating from the top manway or tray sections; the head is lowered down to the top wall section and spins hard fibre whips against the compacted Catalyst similar to a large weed eater or a HPW 3D nozzle.

These whips have the advantage of being able to knock down the compacted material without running the risk of damaging the Reactor walls or internals. For agglomerated Catalysts the whips can also be changed to bronze chains if the risk of damage to any internals can be mitigated.

The Binwhip is relatively lightweight, hydraulically operat-ed and driven from a supplied electrical power pack; this can also be a diesel power pack if permit requirements insist.

CRAS in Pakistan

In May 2015 CR Asia Singapore was involved in the Catalyst, Basket and High Pressure Shell change out of an Ammonia Converter for one of our regular clients in Pakistan. This was already the fourth time for CRAS to be involved in the change of basket from S-200 to S-300.

The scope of work for CRAS consisted in the catalyst unloading of the type S-200, removal of the exiting S-200 basket, install the new S-300 basket and the loading of fresh catalyst via the “shower head” loading method. In between our activities the client also had changed the existing High Pressure Shell for a new High Pressure Shell.

After several months of scheduling and equipment preparation for the shipment to Pakistan the job for CRAS started on May 2nd 2015 and was completed on May 26th 2016. Our Project Manager on this job, Stefan Breet, and his two teams continued to work continuously in day and night-shift, did an excellent job by delivering this complex project safely and on time. Main contribution to this success was the excellent cooperation between the client, the license holder/-catalyst vendor and CRAS. Another contributing factor to the success was the excellent preparation work done by the client; everything was well organized and prepared.

CRAS is Fin Fan of Soda Blasting

CRAS recently had three successful but quite different projects using our sodium bicarbonate blasting technique.

The first was at a refinery south of Manila in the Philippines where the air pre-heaters of the platformer furnace were cleaned. The steam to air preheater was equipped with finned tubes but the flue gas to air preheater consisted of two packs of plate (Apex) bundles, the lower one with a length of four meters. It appeared that the blast-medium penetrated all the way and was still able to clean the plates at the bottom even with a stubborn sulphur pollution.

The second job was the external cleaning of sixty three radiators with a total of a thousand square meters at a diesel power plant in Karachi, Pakistan. The cleaning resulted in an increase of air-flow of twenty eight percent. The job was done with running fans so without interrupting the process. For this cleaning our two colleagues, Martin and Jasper, from MCO-Team came over from the Netherlands to commission the equipment and give the required training to the Reets crew.

The third job was at a refinery in Jurong, Singapore, where two hundred and forty square meters of induced draft air cooled heat exchangers were cleaning in only four dayshifts. The results were astonishing with an increase of air flow of sixty eight percent in average and a temperature drop of up to thirty degrees Celsius. Here also the cleaning was done fully on line without any interruption to the process.

With these three jobs CRAS have firmly proven the success of cleaning by soda blasting.

Harry Van Der MeerChemical Cleaning Division ManagerCR Asia Singapore

In 2015 CRAS has expanded its line of services to also offer mechanical services associated with the specialised activities currently executed by CRAS in order to handle it as a complete package.

In May 2015 the Mechanical Division was set up and started to focus on the mechanical jobs which are in line with our existing specialised divisions.

We will focus on our capability of doing multi-tasking to complete the works. It also reduces standby time between different parties and thereby saving costs for the client. With our current specialised divisions the interface with the mechanical works we come across at the moment are blinding, de-blinding, bolt tensioning and hydraulic torqueing. At first we will focus on these activities and during the next phase we will step into further expansion of our mechanical activities.

CRAS already procured the tools for both bolt tensioning and hydraulic torqueing. We already have selected and recruited a few new people for the division. Now we need to train the guys for using the bolt tensioning and hydraulic torqueing equipment. We also plan to train these technicians for multi-disciplinary skills so they can be used for several disciplines of services within CRAS. Dominic SavioMechanical Division ManagerCR Asia Singapore

Innovation News - Drum Tipper

The loading of catalyst or other products from drums is a slow and labour intensive process that has major safety risks with manual handling. It is often a major undertaking and requires the interaction of forklifts, cranes with people that can result in injury along with the risk of manually handling drums.

The development and manufacture of a 4 drum hydraulic lifter has been done in CRAT with a prototype operational and a final design done. This lifter is capable of lifting 4 drums of various weight and size in a safe and efficient manner. The unit is powered by an electric hydraulic power Pac.

This initiative was led by the CRAT team.

All staff members were particularly grateful to the Management of CR Asia India for giving us the opportunity to visit such remarkable places.
