Coen is a two-time Patriot League Coach of the Year (2010 and 2016) and is a three-time fi nalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, fi nishing as high as sixth in 2011.(Coach Coen’s complete bio can be found on page 14) HOLY CROSS HEAD COACH BOB CHESNEYBob Chesney is in his fi rst season at head coach at Holy Cross. Prior to Assumption, Chesney spent three seasons as head coach at Salve Regina. He is a 2000 graduate of Dickinson College.

THE SERIESLehigh and Holy Cross get together for the 34th time with Lehigh holding a 19-13-1 lead in the series. THE LAST TIME THEY METBETHLEHEM, Pa. (11/11/17) - A second straight strong performance by Lehigh’s defense coupled with a big second half from junior Dominick Bragalone propelled the Mountain Hawks to a 34-21 win over Holy Cross at Goodman Stadium. Lehigh yielded fewer than 400 yards for the second straight week, allowing just 397 including a sea-son-low 147 rushing yards, while matching a season-low for points allowed. The Moun-tain Hawks also recorded three sacks and won the turnover battle for the second straight week. Bragalone was limited to nine carries for 44 yards in the fi rst half, but exploded for 157 in the second to fi nish with his second 200-yard rushing game in the last three weeks. His fi nal totals included a career-high 30 rushes for 201 yards and four touchdowns. Bragalone became the fi rst Lehigh player to rush for four touchdowns in a game since Eric Rath accomplished the feat at Colgate in 2005.

WELCOME BACKLehigh returns just three of the nine players named to last season’s All-Patriot League teams, led by All-America running back Dominick Bragalone, who was Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year last season and is also the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in 2018. A three-time fi rst team All-Patriot League selection, Bragalone joins quarterback Brad Mayes and kicker/punter Ed Mish as returning All-Patriot League selections from 2017. Mayes joined Bragalone on the preseason all-league team announced in late July along with sophomore offensive lineman Chris Fournier.

RUSHING TO VICTORYIn 12-plus seasons under Andy Coen Lehigh has had trouble winning games when it rushes for fewer than 100 yards. The Mountain Hawks have failed to reach the century mark 43 times under Coen and are 14-29 in those games. When Lehigh has surpassed 100 yards during that time, it is 69-33. Lehigh eclipsed the 100 yard mark in nine of 12 games last year and has gained more than 100 yards on the ground in four of seven games so far this season.

FROM COAST TO COASTThe Lehigh coaching staff prides itself in bringing in student-athletes from across the nation. This season, 16 states (plus Canada) are represented on the Mountain Hawks roster, including California, Con-necticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illi-nois, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Ontario, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. The state with the most representation is New Jersey, as 23 Mountain Hawks hail from the Garden State.

PENNSYLVANIA PROUDThe Mountain Hawks’ roster features 19 student-athletes from the state of Penn-sylvania including four who played high school football in the East Penn Conference (formerly Lehigh Valley Conference) or Colonial League. Lehigh’s local contingent consists of senior running back Jake Bus-kirk (Whitehall/Whitehall), senior wide receiver Cam Richardson (Fogelsville/Northwestern Lehigh), freshman kicker Tucker Eighmy (Bethlehem/Notre Dame Green Pond) and freshman defensive back T.J. Rakowsky (Erwinna/Palisades).

BLOCK PARTYThe Mountain Hawks blocked two field goals at Georgetown, giving them a chance to win the game. Junior Riley O’Neil came up the middle to block Brad Hurst’s sec-ond quarter 32-yard attempt, while junior Marquis Wilson was credited with blocking Hurst’s 41-yard attempt as time expired. This marked the seventh time that Lehigh blocked two kicks in a game since 2001 and the fi rst time with multiple blocked kicks since the Mountain Hawks blocked two extra points at Monmouth last season. The two blocks came six years to the day from a game where Lehigh blocked four kicks in a win over Bucknell. Lehigh opponents have attempted two potential game-winning fi eld goals on the fi nal play of regulation this season. The Mountain Hawks have blocked them both.

FIRST YEAR RECEIVERS STEP UPLehigh’s passing game has been bolstered by the addition of freshmen Austin Dambach and Raymond Falcone to the wide receiver rotation. Dambach has started the last three games due to an injury to senior Luke Chris-tiano, while Falcone made his fi rst career start in a four-receiver set against Fordham. They have combined for 16 catches for 181 yards. Dambach caught touchdown passes in back-to-back games against Princeton and Fordham.

PASS GAME IMPROVING IN LEAGUE PLAYLast season Lehigh ranked among the top passing offenses in the FCS but the Moun-tain Hawks have struggled to replicate last year’s success. Lehigh’s passing game has shown signs of life since moving into Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks have averaged 267.5 passing yards in two league games after passing for just 170 per game in their fi rst fi ve games. Lehigh also has four passing touchdowns in two league games after having just four in its fi ve non-league games. The Mountain Hawks’ last seven touchdowns have come through the air.

SIGNS OF LIFE FOR THE RUN GAMEAfter rushing for minus-13 yards in the fi rst half at Georgetown, Lehigh’s rushing attack awakened after halftime, gaining 117 yards on 27 attempts. Senior Dom Bragalone was held to fi ve yards on eight carries in the fi rst half, but came back to gain 85 yards on 20 carries in the second. Freshman Rashawn Allen also broke off a 19-yard run that led to Lehigh’s game-tying fi eld goal.

LEHIGH AT GEORGETOWN

WASHINGTON (10/20/18) - A defen-sive battle between Lehigh and George-town needed overtime to be decided. A three-yard touchdown run by Jackson Saffold in the second overtime gave the Hoyas a 22-16 win over the Moun-tain Hawks at Cooper Field. It was the Hoyas’ fi rst win over Lehigh since 1925, snapping a 17-game Lehigh winning streak in the series. Lehigh trailed 9-6 through much of the game, but pulled even on Ed Mish’s 27-yard fi eld goal with 7:46 to play. Georgetown’s Brad Hurst missed fi ve fi eld goals, including two which were blocked to keep the teams level. Georgetown scored on its fi rst posses-sion of overtime and Lehigh answered with a 20-yard pass from senior Brad Mayes to junior Devon Bibbens on a 4th-and-5 to extend the game. The Mountain Hawks’ second overtime possession ended on an interception on a ball that was ruled to be defl ected off sophomore Jorge Portorreal before Saffold’s second overtime touchdown gave the Hoyas the win.

Georgetown’s biggest play through regulation came on its third play from scrimmage as Michael Dereus got be-hind the Lehigh defense on third down and Gunther Johnson connected for a 70-yard touchdown. Lehigh answered on its second offen-sive possession as Mayes hit sophomore Jorge Portorreal for an 85-yard catch-and-run to get the Mountain Hawks in the end zone. Unfortunately for the visiting Mountain Hawks, Mish’s extra point attempt was blocked and George-town returned the blocked kick for two points. From there the Lehigh defense stood tall, keeping the Hoyas off the score-board through the fi nal 58:27 of regula-tion.

Brad Mayes fi nished 16-of-40 for 253 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Portorreal hauled in a career-high 151 yards on six catches.

GAME 8: LEHIGH AT HOLY CROSS • PAGE 4THROWN FOR A LOSSThe ability of Lehigh’s defense to make tackles behind the line of scrimmage has been a major factor in the Mountain Hawks’ defen-sive improvement this season. Lehigh was averaging more than fi ve tackles for loss per game prior to the Georgetown game, where the Mountain Hawks recorded 13 tackles for loss, their most since the start of the 2001 season. The Mountain Hawks have had 12 tackles for loss in a game three times since 2001, most recently at Bucknell in 2011. Lehigh had 10 tackles for loss in each of its fi rst two games Coming into this season, Lehigh had 10 or more tackles for loss just twice since the start of the 2013 season. Lehigh had 11 tackles for loss in wins against Georgetown in 2015 and Holy Cross in 2016. Junior Keith Woetzel had 2.5 tackles for loss at Georgetown and leads Lehigh with six this season. Senior Juwan Morrow and junior Colin Nace are second with 4.5.

TOTAL DOM-INATIONRunning back Dominick Bragalone returns for his senior season after establishing himself as one of the top offensive players in the FCS last year. Bragalone was the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and a consensus fi rst team All-American after leading the FCS with 1,388 rushing yards, 18 rushing touchdowns and 22 total touchdowns, while averaging a FCS-best 12 points per game. The South Williamsport, Pa. product became the fi rst Lehigh runner to post three 1,000-yard rushing seasons in his career. Bragalone ran for 100-plus yards in Lehigh’s fi nal seven regular season games in 2017, highlighted by a career-high 218-yard effort at Fordham and a 201-yard, four-touchdown game against Holy Cross; Lehigh’s fi rst individual 200-yard rushing games since 2003. Bragalone fi nished seventh in the balloting for last year’s Walter Payton Award and appears on the preseason watch list for this year’s award.

BRAGALONE’S RECORD-SETTING DAYDom Bragalone opened the season by carrying 29 times for 137 yards and three touchdowns against Saint Francis. His 28th carry, a 10-yard rush in the fourth quarter, gave him Lehigh’s career rushing record, passing the mark of 3,696 previously held by Rabih Abdullah ‘97. The three rushing touchdowns give Bragalone 42 for his career, tying Rod Gardner ‘77 for that school record. While Bragalone has been kept out of the end zone since the season-opener, he did rush for 85 yards in the second half at Georgetown after being limited to just fi ve in the fi rst half. Bragalone did become the fi rst Lehigh rusher to eclipse the 4,000 yard mark for his career, fi nishing the day with 4,001.

DEFENSE GIVES LEHIGH A SHOT IN DCA strong defensive effort helped keep Lehigh in its game with Georgetown before the Hoyas ultimately prevailed in double overtime. Georgetown scored on a 70-yard touchdown pass on its third play from scrimmage, but the Lehigh defense kept the Hoyas off the board through the remainder of regulation, a span of 58:27. The Mountain Hawks recorded 13 tackles for loss, three sacks and limited Georgetown to just 313 yards of total offense in regulation, and 243 following the long touchdown pass on the fi rst drive of the game. Lehigh allowed just 62 rushing yards during regulation and kept an opponent under 100 yards for the game for just the second time this season and the fi rst time since limiting Saint Francis to 58 in the season opener.

RECORDS HAVE REMAINED OUT OF REACHSeveral members of the Lehigh football program began this season on the cusp of school career records, but the Mountain Hawks’ 1-6 showing thus far have left some of those records out of reach. Se-nior Dom Bragalone became Lehigh’s career rushing leader in the season-opener against Saint Francis, and tied the school mark for career rushing touchdowns, but has not reached the end zone since. Coach Andy Coen began the season needing four wins to surpass the legendary Bill Leckonby for the school record for career coaching wins, but Lehigh will now need to win three of its last four games for Coen to claim the top spot. Here’s a look at several records that appeared within reach at the start of the season that have yet to be broken in 2018:

Record (Person) Preseason Current RecordCoaching Wins (Andy Coen) 82 83 85 (Bill Leckonby)Rush TDs (Dom Bragalone) 39 42 42 (Rod Gardner)Total TDs (Dom Bragalone) 45 48 50 (Gardner/Torain)Scoring (Dom Bragalone) 270 288 306 (Erick Torain)Kick Scoring (Ed Mish) 199 217 225 (Erik Bird)

LINEBACKERS LEAD DEFENSE AT GEORGETOWNWith senior Mark Walker sidelined due to injury, junior linebackers Keith Woetzel and Jon Seighman stepped up with the best statistical games of their respective careers. Seighman started for Walker and set a career high with 16 tackles, including 1.5 for loss and shared his fi rst career sack. Woetzel also recorded a career high for tackles with 15 and added a team-best 2.5 for loss. He was effective on blitzes throughout the day, adding a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries to his tackle tally.

NEARING UNCHARTED TERRITORYDespite being 0-2 in the Patriot League for just the third time in program history, Lehigh has fared better in league play than in non-league action in recent years. Lehigh is 15-5 in Patriot League play since the start of the 2015 season. The Mountain Hawks are just 6-14 in non-league action, including 1-9 over the last two years. The only other times Lehigh started league play 0-2 were 2007 and 2014. The Mountain Hawks have never started Patriot League play with three straight losses.

WORKING OVERTIMEThe Mountain Hawks have played 12 overtime games since over-time rules were established prior to the 1995 season. GAME 8: LEHIGH AT HOLY CROSS • PAGE 5MAYES SEEKS RETURN TO BETTER DAYSSenior quarterback Brad Mayes had a big 2017 in his fi rst season as Lehigh’s full-time starter. Mayes completed 64 percent of his pass-es for 3,886 yards and 31 touchdowns, posting the second highest single-season totals in school history for those last two categories. A fi rst-team All-Patriot League selection, Mayes was a two-time league Offensive Player of the Week last season, including the fi nal week of the regular season when he was named MVP of the Lehigh-Lafayette game after throwing for 333 yards and three touchdowns in Lehigh’s come-from-behind victory. Mayes set Lehigh’s single-game passing mark with 524 yards at Yale as a sophomore. The Tampa native joins Bragalone on the preseason watch list for the Walter Payton Award. Mayes completed 76 percent of his passes against Saint Francis, and has averaged 267.5 yards and two touchdown passes in two league games after averaging just 155.2 yards and less than a touchdown pass per game in fi ve non-league outings.

TURNING THE TIDES ON TURNOVERSCreating more turnovers defensively has been a major area of focus for the Mountain Hawks in recent years. Lehigh had a plus-9 turn-over margin with 21 takeaways in 2016 but had negative turnover margins with just 13 takeaways in 2014, 2015 and 2017. The Mountain Hawks won the turnover battle in just three games last season, but all three were key league wins (Colgate, Bucknell, Holy Cross). Lehigh is minus-10 through seven games and has just seven takeaways. The Mountain Hawks were minus-2 at Georgetown and failed to create a turnover for the second time this season. The Princeton game marked the fi rst time this season Lehigh did not lose the turnover battle as turnovers were even.

NEW LOOK RECEIVING CORPSOver the previous two seasons, Troy Pelletier and Gatlin Casey proved to be one of the top receiving tandems in the FCS. Pelletier set a number of Lehigh and Patriot League records as a four-year contributor, while Casey added 1,989 receiving yards and 26 touch-downs over his fi nal two seasons. Those departures will create opportunities for other receivers to emerge. Five receivers have at least 10 receptions through seven games. Sophomore Jorge Portor-real leads the Mountain Hawks with 33 catches for 414 yards, while junior Devon Bibbens has 24 catches for 382 yards and a team-best three touchdown receptions.

JUST FOR KICKSAfter earning fi rst team All-Patriot League honors as a kicker and punter as a sophomore, injuries limited Ed Mish at times in both capacities last season. Now healthy, Mish looks to regain the form that saw him go 62-for-62 on extra points (a school record for PATs made) as a sophomore, while averaging 43 yards per punt. Mish became Lehigh’s career leader in extra points last season and earned second team All-Patriot League honors as a kicker. Mish eclipsed the 200 point mark against Saint Francis and currently sits eight points behind Erik Bird’s career record for kick scoring at Lehigh. Mish currently holds Lehigh’s career record for net punting average at 42.6 yards per punt. He averaged 51 yards on fi ve punts at Navy, with four downed inside the Mids’ 20-yard line. Mish’s 43.7 yard punting average this season ranks seventh in the FCS.

MILESTONE WATCHSeveral Mountain Hawks are moving closer to career milestones.

Player Milestone CurrentlyDom Bragalone 50 total touchdowns 48Donavon Harris 10 tackles for loss 9.5Julian Lynn 10 tackles for loss 9Brad Mayes 60 touchdown passes 58Ed Mish 150 extra points 148Riley O’Neil 150 tackles 142Keith Woetzel 150 tackles 140

A FIFTH YEAR FOR KELSEYLehigh’s roster regularly features student-athletes who earned fi fth years of eligibility due to medical hardships. The Mountain Hawks had three last year but have just one this season in wide receiver Sasha Kelsey, who lost his third season due to an injury. Kelsey has 16 catches for 135 yards in fi ve games, tying for second on the team in receptions and ranking fourth in receiving yards.

KAUFFMAN NAMED CAMPBELL TROPHY SEMIFINALISTSenior defensive lineman Harrison Kauffman was named one of 179 semifi nalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, given to the nation’s top football scholar-athlete. Kauffman, a team captain, owns a 3.45 GPA in fi nance and is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll who earned Academic All-Patriot League and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors following the 2017 season. He is a three-year contributor on the defensive line. The National Football Foundation will name 12-14 fi nalists for the Campbell Trophy on Oct. 31.

ACADEMIC SUCCESSFollowing the 2017 season, Lehigh placed 17 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Fourteen of those 17 se-lections are back this season, including senior Harrison Kauffman, who earned Academic All-Patriot League honors and CoSIDA Ac-ademic All-District honors last season. Kauffman owns a 3.45 GPA in fi nance. Sophomore Zac Troxell leads the Mountain Hawks with a 3.79 GPA in business. Senior Brian Olshanski, junior Alex Motley and sophomore Pete Haffner are all cumulatively over 3.60.

SCOUTING HOLY CROSSHoly Cross returns from its bye week looking to snap a four-game losing streak. The Crusaders’ lone win came by a 31-28 score against Yale in overtime on Sept. 15. In its last game before the bye, Holy Cross erased a 30-14 third quarter defi cit to take a lead at Harvard, only to fall 33-31 on a last second fi eld goal. Holy Cross’ two league losses came at the hands of Colgate on Sept. 1 and against Bucknell Sept. 29. Quarterback Geoff Wade leads the Crusader offense. Wade has started four games under center and has thrown for 1,009 yards and seven touchdowns with seven interceptions. Domenic Cozier is the top rusher for Holy Cross with 346 yards and four touchdowns, while Martin Dorsey is the top receiver with 28 catches for 333 yards and three touchdowns. Linebacker Ryan Brady leads the Holy Cross defense with 79 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and two sacks. Like Lehigh, Holy Cross has struggled in the turnover department. The Crusaders have a minus-8 turnover margin through seven games.

GAME 8: LEHIGH AT HOLY CROSS • PAGE 10

A FRESH STARTLehigh has added 21 fi rst-year student-athletes to its 2018 roster, including several who could contribute right away. Seven freshmen appear on Lehigh’s depth chart (page 11), and four have seen action in each of Lehigh’s fi rst six games, including Justin Gurth, who has started all three at right tackle. Gurth is the third Lehigh freshman to start on the offensive line in the last two seasons after the Mountain Hawks had not started a freshman on the line since eventual All-Amer-ican and NFL draft pick Will Rackley in 2007.

A STRONG FIRST STARTFreshman running back Rashawn Allen made the most of his fi rst career start, with a 16-carry, 147-yard, two touchdown effort at Navy. Subbing for the injured Dom Bragalone, Allen raced around the left side for a 75-yard touchdown on Lehigh’s fi rst play from scrimmage and later added a 26-yard score in which he broke free from the pile after it appeared he was stopped. Allen was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week or his efforts. Lehigh last had a freshman rush for 100-plus yards in 2015 when Bragalone accomplished the feat fi ve times and Micco Brisker did so against Penn.

NO PASSING, NO PROBLEMLehigh has had one of the top passing offenses in the FCS over the last few seasons but the Mountain Hawks did not need a big passing day to beat Saint Francis. Quarterbacks Brad Mayes and Tyler Mo-naco completed 74 percent of their passes but gained just 181 yards, with no touchdown passes as Lehigh’s offense came from three Dom Bragalone touchdown runs. Since the start of the 2013 season, Lehigh had won just three previous games in which it has passed for less than 200 yards (Holy Cross and Colgate 2013 and at Bucknell in 2017) and had won just twice without throwing a touchdown pass (at Cornell in 2014, Holy Cross in 2017).

FOUR CAPTAINS NAMEDNear the end of preseason camp, coach Andy Coen named four seniors as captains for the 2018 season. Running back Dom Bragalone (South Williamsport, Pa.), defensive lineman Harrison Kauffman (Kalispell, Mont.) and defensive backs Donavon Harris (Burlington, Twp., N.J.) and Sam McCloskey (Altoona, Pa.) will lead this year’s squad. McCloskey will serve as a captain for the second consecutive season.

A fi ery and passionate leader with a unique ability to motivate and inspire today’s student-athletes, Andy Coen is in his 13th year as Lehigh’s head football coach. During his time as the Moun-tain Hawks leader, Coen has produced 131 All-Pa-triot League honorees, 25 All-America se-

lections and 236 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll student-athletes.

A two-time Patriot League Coach of the Year, Coen has guided Lehigh to fi ve Patriot League titles in 12 seasons in Bethlehem, including back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017. He was a fi nalist for the Eddie Robinson Award on three occasions, fi nishing seventh in 2010, sixth in 2011 and 11th in 2016.

In 12 seasons, Coen has amassed an overall record of 82-56 (.594) and a 52-20 (.722) mark against Patriot League foes. Coen sits in second place on Lehigh’s career coaching wins list and enters 2018 three wins behind Bill Leckonby for the top spot.

A second-half surge powered the Mountain Hawks to their 12th Patriot League title in 2017. Lehigh rebounded from an 0-5 start to go 5-1 in Patriot League play with Coen’s Mountain Hawks claiming the championship with a come-from-behind 38-31 win over Lafayette in the regular season fi nale. Lehigh once again boasted one of the top offenses in the FCS, as the Mountain Hawks ranked in the top 10 in scoring, passing and total yardage.

The Mountain Hawks were led by junior running back Dominick Bragalone, who earned consensus All-America honors after leading the FCS in rushing and scoring. Bragalone was a fi nalist for the Walter Payton Award, as was record-setting wide receiver Troy Pelletier, who became a four-time All-Patriot League selection and a two-time All-American.

Off the fi eld, defensive linemen Jimmy Mitchell and Harrison Kauffman were CoSIDA Academic All-District selections and Academic All-Patriot League honorees.

Coen led the Mountain Hawks to their 11th Patriot League title in 2016. After an 0-2 start, Lehigh reeled off nine consecutive victories, capped by a 45-21 win over rival Lafayette to cap an undefeated Patriot League season. Coen was named Patriot League Coach of the Year for the second time.

Thirteen players garnered All-Patriot League honors, led by quarterback Nick Shafnisky who was the league and ECAC Offensive Player of the Year. Wide receiver Troy Pelletier went on to earn the fi rst All-America honors for a Lehigh football student-ath-lete since 2013.

Offensive lineman Micah Tennant and nose guard Jimmy Mitchell garnered Academic All-Patriot League honors, with Tennant also earning fi rst team Academic All-America honors.

Lehigh fi nished 2015 with a 4-2 league mark. A 49-35 win over rival Lafayette, Lehigh’s sixth in the last eight years over the Leopards clinched a winning cam-paign at 6-5. A balanced offensive attack kept Lehigh in every game with quarterback Nick Shafnisky leading the Patriot League’s top-ranked offense. Freshman

tailback Dominick Bragalone became the fi rst Lehigh freshman to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season and was named Patriot League and ECAC Rookie of the Year as well as being named a fi nalist for the FCS Freshman Player of the Year award.

Eight Mountain Hawks garnered All-Patriot League honors in 2015 with sophomore wide receiver Troy Pelletier and junior linebacker Colton Caslow recognized for the second time.

Seniors Cody Kondas and Chris Ruhl earned Academic All-League recognition. Ruhl was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.

Coen coached fi ve All-Patriot League performers in 2014 including three-time All-League offensive tack-le Ned Daryoush and punter Austin Devine. Pelletier was a fi nalist for the Jerry Rice Award, given to the nation’s top freshman.

The Mountain Hawks posted their fourth consec-utive winning season in 2013 with an 8-3 mark. Coen mentored nine All-Patriot League selections including wide receiver Lee Kurfi s, who led the FCS in receiving yards per game and earned All-America honors.

Under Coen’s guidance, Lehigh posted its third consecutive ten win season in 2012. Lehigh posted its fi fth straight win over Lafayette and fi nished in the top 20 of both national polls for the third straight season.

Coen coached 11 student-athletes to All-Patriot League honors, with a trio of seniors recognized as ECAC All-Stars. Seniors Zach Barket and Ryan Spadola were CoSIDA Academic All-District selections, while Barket became Coen’s fi rst Academic All-American.

In 2011, Coen guided the Mountain Hawks to their best season in a decade, one that featured an 11-2 overall record, a 5-0 Patriot League record and Lehigh’s tenth football championship. The Mountain Hawks won 10 straight games, including a 40-38 win at Towson in the second round of the NCAA playoffs. Le-high fi nished in the top six in both polls and captured its eighth Lambert Cup en route to being named ECAC FCS Team of the Year.

With quarterback Chris Lum leading the way, Lehigh ranked among the top fi ve nationally in passing offense and scoring offense. Lum fi nished second in the voting for the Walter Payton Award.

Five Mountain Hawks garnered All-America recognition, led by Lum and Spadola. Academical-ly, Spadola and Barket were Academic All-District selections.

The 2010 season saw Coen guide the Moun-tain Hawks to their ninth league championship and Lehigh’s fi rst outright league title since 2001. The Mountain Hawks won ten games for the fi rst time since 2001 and posted the fi rst undefeated Patriot League season in seven years.

Lehigh qualifi ed for the NCAA playoffs for the fi rst time since 2004 and went on the road to defeat Northern Iowa 14-7 for the Patriot League’s fi rst playoff win in seven years, while fi nishing the season ranked 14th nationally. For his team’s success, Coen was named Patriot League Coach of the Year.

Eighteen players were named to All-Patriot League teams, while four players earned All-America honors, including offensive lineman Will Rackley ’11 who was Lehigh’s fi rst Associated Press fi rst team All-America since 2004 and was drafted by the Jack-sonville Jaguars in the third round of the NFL Draft.

The 2009 Mountain Hawks led the nation in sacks with 39. Linebacker Matt Cohen ‘10 became the fi rst player during Coen’s tenure to earn a major award from the Patriot League as he garnered Defensive Player of the Year accolades. Cohen went onto earn All-America laurels from four different outlets while Rackley was honored by one.

During the 2008 season, Coen led Lehigh to a 4-2 Patriot League mark, which included a 31-15 victory

over archrival Lafayette. Nine players earned spots on the All-Patriot League teams, while four student-ath-letes garnered All-America accolades. Off the fi eld, 12 Mountain Hawks were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, led by Brendan Van Ackeren ’09 who was also named Academic All-District.

In 2007, Lehigh ranked second in the Patriot League in scoring defense (21.1 ppg) and scored 30 or more points on four occasions, including a 45-0 shutout win over Georgetown – the program’s fi rst shutout victory since 2002. Coen coached 10 All-Patriot League selections and six All-Americans; marking the fi rst time since 2004 Lehigh produced an All-American.

Coen led the Mountain Hawks to a share of the Patriot League Championship in his fi rst-ever season as a head coach in 2006. The Mountain Hawks boasted a balanced attack on both sides of the ball, topping the Patriot League in scoring offense (27.2 ppg) and defense (20.2 ppg). The New Jersey native mentored 14 All-Patriot League selections.

Coen became the 28th head football coach in Lehigh history on January 3, 2006. That announce-ment marked his return to Lehigh, where he spent six seasons as an offensive line coach – including four as the team’s offensive coordinator.

Coen returned to Lehigh from Penn, where he spent six years as the offensive coordinator with the Quakers. In his six seasons in Philadelphia, the Quakers captured three Ivy League titles, including a top ten national fi nish in 2003.

In his fi rst stop at Lehigh (1994-99), Coen was a part of three Patriot League championship teams, including the 12-1 1998 squad. That team set a school mark for the most wins in a season, while reaching the NCAA Division I-AA quarterfi nals.

Coen produced ten All-Patriot League offensive linemen at Lehigh, while his teams twice fi nished in the national top ten in passing offense (1996, 1998). During Coen’s tenure as coordinator, Lehigh produced four consecutive 1,000-yard rushers, including Rabih Abdullah ’97, who remains Lehigh’s all-time leader in rushing yards (3,696). Abdullah later went on to become the fi rst Lehigh player to win a Super Bowl as a member of the 2004 New England Patriots.

Before his original stint at Lehigh, Coen spent coached at the United States Merchant Marine Academy and also worked as a graduate assistant at Minnesota and James Madison.

A native of Cherry Hill, N.J., Coen earned his bachelors in history from Gettysburg College in 1986.

Coen and his wife Laura have three children: a daughter, Molly and two sons, Nolan and Finn.
