    Push to Walk, a non-

    profit organization that

    provides individualized

    workouts and resources to

    people with spinal cord

    injuries and other forms of

    paralysis, welcomed “friendly

    robot assistant,” Budgee™, to

    Push to Walk’s Summer Boot

    Camp Open House, for

    demonstrations and informa-

    tion sharing with clients and

    supporters.

    On Wednesday, July 15,

as a part of our week-long

    Summer Boot Camp, Push to

    Walk hosted an Open House

    event, inviting various ven-

    dors of adaptive resources for

    our clients. A standout ven-

    dor was 5 Elements Robotics,

the maker of Budgee™, a per-

    sonal assistant robot designed

    to follow their owner and

    carry their belongings.

    The Budgee™ robot

looks promising to aid in the

    everyday lives of people with

    disabilities, whether it be trips

    to the mall, grocery shopping,

    or carrying luggage through

    an airport. Budgee™ uses sen-

sors, which are placed in the

    owners’ pockets, to follow

    them around and keep the

    robot from falling down stairs

or bumping into walls. It is

able to carry up to 50 pounds

and can also fold up into a

    portable form weighing only

    about 5 pounds. The robot

runs up to 10 hours on a

    charge and will notify the

owner when the charge is run-

    ning low.

    “We regularly monitor

    and research resources bene-

    fiting the spinal cord injury

    and paralysis community so

    we can share this information

    with our clients and support-

    ers,” said Cynthia Templeton,

    President and Founder of

Push to Walk. “Budgee™ is a

    fun and wonderfully helpful

    resource that can help people

    with disabilities by lessening

    the burden of transporting

    heavy materials and granting

    more independence and less

    reliance on others.”

    Home Health Care is a

    preferred way of care

    for those who wish to

receive quality individualizedservices in the comfort of their

    homes. Recipients of home

    health care include the elder-

ly, those living with an illness,

    and those recovering from an

    accident or surgery. Choosing

a quality home health careagency is not an easy decision.

    Here are some helpful points

    to consider:

    1. Is the agency certified by a

    reputable accrediting body of

healthcare organization, suchas the Commission on

    Accreditation for Home Care,

    Inc., (CAHC), which is New

     Jersey’s largest and only state-

    based home care accreditation

    program?

    2. Is the agency available 24/7

    with an RN Supervisor on-call

    if necessary?

    3. Is there a proper process for

    the hiring, screening, and

    training of employees? Note:

RNs need to be licensed by the

     New Jersey Board of Nursing

    and home health aides should

    be well-trained on emergency,

    disease or infection control,

    and safety measures.

    Dogs are wonderful

    companion animals,

    providing their own-

ers with loyal friends who are

    seemingly always up for walks

    or games of Frisbee.

    Dog ownership is reward-

ing, but it’s also a significant

    responsibility. Before adopting

a shelter dog or buying from a

    breeder, prospective dog own-

ers should consider a host of

factors to determine if now is

the best time for them to wel-

    come a new four-legged friend

    into their family.

    Time: Some pets do not

    require their owners to com-

mit much of their time. For

    example, fish and bird owners

don’t need to take their pets

    outside for walks or bathroom

    breaks, making them ideal

pets for people who want a pet

but don’t have the time to

    devote to caring for more

    needy animals. A person con-

    sidering getting a dog should

    make an honest assessment of

how much time they have to

take care of their animals.Dogs don’t just need their

owners to take them for walks

and let them into the back-

yard to go to the bathroom.

    Dogs are social animals and

    need their owners to spend

time with them every day. A

    person with an especially hec-

    tic schedule may want to

delay getting a dog until they

can free up more time in their

    days.

    Money: Owning a dog

    requires a considerable finan-

    cial commitment, one that

    extends far beyond the adop-

    tion fees or prices established

    by private breeders. Dogs need

    food, comfortable shelter,

    toys, and medical care, which

    can be expensive should dogs

get sick. Some dog owners buy

pet insurance to offset the cost

    of veterinarian visits, while

others simply pay out of pock-

et when their dogs have med-

    ical expenses. Dogs tend to

hide physical problems fromtheir owners, which is why

    routine veterinary visits are so

    important. Many veterinari-

    ans recommend annual visits

for dogs under the age of 10

and visits every six months for

dogs 10 and older. A person

    should make sure they can

    afford those visits before

bringing a dog into their lives.

    Climate: Where a person

    lives should also influence

their decision to get a dog.

    Though climate won’t neces-

    sarily prevent them from

    adopting a dog, they may

    want to avoid adopting cer-

tain breeds of dogs dependingon where they live. For exam-

    ple, short-nosed breeds,

    including English bulldogs

    and pugs, are highly suscepti-

ble to heat stroke, as their

    shorter airways give them less

of a chance to cool the air

    they draw into their bodies.

    As technology hasmade working

    remotely easier, more

    and more professionals are

    working from home. Working

    from home can help working

    parents save money on child-

care costs and help all workers

    avoid rush hour traffic jams

and the costs of commuting to

    and from the office.

    The right working envi-

ronment is essential for menand women who work from

    home. An environment that’s

    conducive to work can help

    people increase their produc-

    tivity and make their employ-

ers more likely to allow more

    employees to work from

    home. Professionals who are

    new to working from home

may find it takes some timebefore they can create the per-

    fect working environment,

but the following are a few

    factors to consider when plan-

    ning a home office.

    SPACE

    One of the disadvantages

to working from home is that

    remote workers don’t have

access to the same level of

    equipment as in the main

office, such as color copiers orscanners. If you want to

    include even scaled-down

    versions of such equipment in

    your office, you will need

    ample space. In addition, less

    spacious home offices can feel

    too tight and enclosed, mak-

    ing workers uncomfortable

    and less enthusiastic about

working every day. Pick a spotin your home that affords

    room for your equipment and

the ability to move around so

    you don’t feel cramped

    throughout the workday.

    LIGHTING

    Lighting is another fac-

    tor remote workers must con-

    sider when they’re planning

    their home offices. Natural

    light can provide an energetic

boost and improve your mood,so choose a room in your

home that gets lots of sunlight

    during the day. Many profes-

    sionals who work remotely do

so from the basements of their

homes, which can make it dif-

ficult to rely on natural light.

If the basement is the only

    location in your home that

can fit a home office, look forlighting sources that replicate

daylight so you are not work-

    ing in dark quarters. Speak

    with your physician about

    how to arrange lighting to

    reduce eyestrain caused by

    staring at a computer.

    CONNECTIVITY

    Connectivity also must

    be considered when planning

    a home office. While wireless

Internet has made Internetdead zones less problematic,

certain areas or rooms in your

    home may still be touch-and-

    go with regard to Internet

    connectivity. Such areas

    should be avoided when

    choosing a room for your

home office, as it can be diffi-

    cult to remain productive if

    your connection to your

    office’s external server is rou-

    tinely compromised. Find an

    area where the wireless con-

    nection is always strong.DISTRACTIONS

    While your home might

be empty for much of the day,

you don’t want to be distracted

when the kids come home from

school or when your spouse or

    roommate arrives home from

    work. Avoid putting your home

    office too close to popular

    hangout areas in your home,

such as the kitchen and the liv-

    ing room. Instead, choose a

room where you have lots of

privacy so you can focus onyour work and won’t be rou-

    tinely interrupted.

    Working from home can

    pay numerous dividends, but

    professionals who telework must

    put careful thought into the

rooms or areas of their homes

    where they plan to work.

    People living in especially

    warm climates may want to

    avoid short-nosed breeds in

favor of dogs that are better

equipped to handle the heat.Age of the dog: Many

    prospective dog owners

    want to adopt puppies so

they can be with their new

    best friends throughout the

    dogs’ lives. But puppies can

    be difficult to house train,

    and that training takes a

    combination of time,

    money, and patience. If a

person is not ready to com-

mit all three to house traintheir dog, they should con-

    sider adopting an older dog

    that is already house

    trained.

     Family members or

    roommates: Dogs make won-

    derful additions to a home,

but not everyone is cut out for

living with dogs. If a person

lives with other people, be it

    family members or room-

mates, it’s best to consult with

    them before bringing a dog

    home, as dogs can change

    the dynamic of any living

    arrangement. In addition,

    they may unknowingly live

with someone who has a dog

    allergy and cannot cohabitate

with a dog. It’s best to consult

    the people they live with

    before bringing a dog home,

and only do so if they have

    their blessing.

    Dogs are great compan-

    ions who can greatly improve

their owners’ quality of life;however, dog ownership is not

    for everyone, and prospective

    dog owners should first con-

sider a host of factors before

    bringing dogs into their

    homes.

    Rent, the musical that

    changed Broadway for-

    ever, will be presented

    weekends, August 7-23. Based

    loosely on Puccini’s La

    Boheme, “Rent” follows a year

in the life of a group of impov-

    erished young artists and musi-

    cians struggling to survive and

    create in New York’s Lower

East Side, under the shadow of

    HIV/AIDS. How these young

    bohemians negotiate their

    dreams, loves, and conflicts

    provides the narrative thread

to this groundbreaking musical. Please note, there is adult

    theme and language. Friday

    and Saturdays shows are at

8pm and Sunday shows are at

3pm. The price for tickets is
