Eruv Tavshilin

In order to prepare for Shabbat on Friday of Yom Tov, one must designate an Eruv Tavshilin before Yom Tov. Therefore, on Wednesday, 10/11, the head of the household, or designee, should set aside a baked item (ie challah roll or matza) and a cooked item (ie. eggs, fish or meat). S/he should then recite the both blessing of "Baruch...Al Mitzvas Eruv" and the Eruv Tavshilin declaration, both found in the Artscroll Siddur (p. 654) or on our handout from Shabbat. The foods set aside for the eruv must remain in uneaten until Shabbat and should be eaten on Shabbat. An Eruv Tavshilin must be made even if one does not intend to cook on Yom Tov for Shabbat so that Shabbat Candles can be light.

Don’t Have A Sukkah?

Our Young Israel Sukkah will be open throughout the Sukkot for communal use. Lights will be set for Yom Tov as well. Please remember to throw away your trash after eating. If you have any questions, please speak to Rabbi Brander.

In the hopes of keeping Hakafot from getting too late, we will be shifting how we do things Simchat Torah night a little. We will be begin-ning the auction immediately after Mincha instead of having a shiur, and we will be moving directly to Maariv at 6:55 pm as the second day of Yom Tov starts. Candle lighting still cannot be before 6:55 PM which will coincide with the bidding, hakafot and maariv. As such, candle lighting will be availa-ble downstairs or one may light candles after 6:55 pm and come over or one my light after hakafot at the conclusion of the evening.
