Participants from 50+ Countries and many Indian States and Union Territories exhibited their destinations at OTM 2019,

held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre from January 23 to 25.

OTM 2019 had 1,000+ exhibitors, including National and State Tourism Organisations, State Tourism Boards, Hotels, Airlines, Destination Marketing Companies and other suppliers serving leisure as well as business travel and Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Events (MICE) markets.

Over 15,000 travel trade visitors attended the three-day show along with more than 800 top buyers from travel trade and corporate sectors who had qualified for special hosting privileges.

The presence of four Tourism Ministers from India and abroad stands testimony to the fact that OTM is the leading travel trade show in the country. Shri Anil Kumarsingh Gayan, SC, M.P., Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Government of Mauritius; Derek Hanekom, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, South Africa; Hon’ble Minister of State of Tourism (Independent Charge) Shri K J Alphons and Shri Satpal Maharaj, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Government of Uttarakhand were present during the first two days of the show.

Tourism Ministers of Mauritius and Uttarakhand inaugurated OTM 2019 in the presence of several other dignitaries including H.E. Panos Kalogeropoulos, Ambassador of Greece; Thoyyib Mohamed, MD, Maldives Tourism and Dr Raden Sigit Witjaksono, Director, Ministry of Tourism, Republic of Indonesia.

K J Alphons, Hon’ble Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge) was the Chief Guest on the second day of the show. He took a tour of the show and interacted with various participants. He also launched the Cine Tourism Report, a report on promoting film tourism within India sponsored by OTM

and prepared by Ernst & Young. Alphons remarked, “I am extremely

happy to be here at OTM 2019. The report of World Travel and Tourism Council 2018 shows India is at rank 3 in power and performance after China and the United States. The revenue generated from tourism last year was USD 234 billion. We employ 82 million people in the tourism sector. Film Tourism also gives huge potential and I am happy that the Prime Minister has announced a single window system with I&B Ministry and all clearances for all the States would be issued centrally.”

Anil Kumarsingh Gayan, SC, M.P., Minister of Tourism, Government of Mauritius said, “OTM has done a wonderful job in organising this fair. This is a great occasion to showcase not just what India has to offer but also what other participants have to offer. Tourism is a major pillar of the economy. I would like to thank the organisers of OTM for making me the Guest of Honour, I look forward to working very closely with OTM in the years to come.”

Satpal Maharaj, Minister of Tourism, Government of Uttarakhand said, “It has been a wonderful experience at OTM 2019. We actually get to know what people are promoting and what the visitors want. OTM is the ideal place

for inbound and outbound tourism. I congratulate Team OTM and they should do more and better. This is a good opportunity that OTM has provided to understand what is happening in the world and what we should do. I will support and participate in the upcoming OTMs.”

Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, South Africa, Derek Hanekom walked the show on the evening of the first day. He remarked, “This is my first time at OTM and I’m utterly impressed with the quality of the exhibits and I’m quite overwhelmed. I had a great experience at OTM 2019 and you are enticing us to want to be here ourselves. I would like to congratulate Team OTM. Really good job!”

OTM 2019’s Premium Partner Country, Indonesia was very happy to be part of OTM and their entourage of tour operators stood testimony to the fact. Dr. Raden Sigit Witjaksono, Director, Minister of Tourism, Republic of Indonesia said, “India is our main market, ranks 2 after China in tourist arrivals to Indonesia. OTM is one of the mediums that helps us to showcase and promote Indonesia and places beyond Bali. We look forward to have more cooperation from Indian market through OTM. We are happy to participate as the premium partner for OTM 2019.”

Besides showcasing their myriad tourist attractions, Indonesia Tourism presented an array of cultural offerings during the show. Representatives from Indonesia’s travel and tourism industry under the umbrella of The Ministry of Tourism, Republic of Indonesia

This was our third year at OTM this time.I had some quality time here at the event. With the help of events like OTM, we received a great platform to showcase our destination to potential Indian

discussed their India-specific tourism promotion plans during OTM 2019.

OTM Mumbai has yet again emerged as the largest travel trade show in Asia-Pacific, both in terms of participating sellers and rented area.

The show is a gateway to India’s 22 million outbound travellers and a billion-strong domestic travel market. It provides travel professionals with an opportunity to showcase their business at one of the largest travel source markets in the world. With the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India by its side, OTM saw active participation from the Ministry in several aspects. The Ministry not only sponsored Hosted Buyers from abroad to visit the show, it also supported the Cine Tourism Workshop on the inaugural day.

Country pavilions were set up by Cambodia, China, Egypt, Greece, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Korea, Macao, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal, New Zealand, Palestine, Philippines, Romania, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand and several others.

Among the Indian States, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Puducherry, Jharkhand, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Haryana, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Tripura and Delhi participated at OTM.

Other marquee exhibitors at OTM 2019 included Travel Boutique Online, Bangkok Tourism Division - Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Ezeego1.Com, Tokyo International Airport, Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau, Hotel

& Restaurant Association of Bhutan, Trance Holiday and others.

This year, the OTM Forum focussed on innovation and technology in travel. There was an interesting line-up of panel discussions conducted on the sidelines of the mart. Eminent experts and leaders from the industry deliberated on digital marketing and social media in travel, the influence of AR/VR and other subjects related to Domestic, Inbound, Outbound, MICE and Niche Tourism. Eminent speakers from companies like Thomas Cook Group, Travel Boutique Online, Thomas Cook India, AirAsia, Lonely Planet India, Thrillophilia.com, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, GoIbibo, Jet Airways, Indigo Airlines, Booking.com, Jio Studios, Phocuswright Inc., TravHQ and others were present.

CineLocales Lounge within OTM was a marketplace connecting the world’s largest filmmaking community to global destinations. 30+ top production houses like Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions, Viacom and many others visited CineLocales at OTM 2019.

Cruise Hub provided an opportunity to travel traders to connect with the cruising community in India and abroad, expand their network and enhance business prospects.

OTM 2019 organised an hour-long speed networking session where exhibitors exclusively met more than 800 top buyers on-the-spot to build and grow their network.

Cox and Kings, the Knowledge Partner of OTM, conducted destination workshops on China, Morocco, Greece and Turkey.

Facebook, the Knowledge Partner of OTM Forum, conducted a specialised skill-development workshop on digital marketing for travel stakeholders.

OTM India’s Top 100 Travel Producer Awards were also presented at the show. Hundreds of travel producers from all over India attended and received the award.

OTM is a genuine travel show for real business. Last year we had good number of travellers from India. This year we are focussing on the wedding market and film tourism. With OTM conducting programmes like Cine Locales for film tourism, open new avenues for us. We also met few wedding planners and had serious discussions with them. 24th Jan & 25th Jan: Cine Locales Lounge: Film Production Houses and Institutions engaged with Domestic and International Tourism Boards over short meetings to collect information on locations, finance schemes and different initiatives for Cine Tourism promotion.

12 International Tourism Boards and 9 Indian States participated in Cinelocales and engaged with Film Producers and Institutions Hon’ble Tourism Minister inaugurated the same and FFO gave detailed presentations to all attendees.

Participating production houses included Dharma, Yash Raj, Reliance Ent, Viacom, Rajshree, Zee, Producers Guild of India, WIFPA, South, Marathi and East Indian Producers.

For the third time in a row, we were associated with OTM as Producers

Guild and with the help of platform like OTM we get to address the

issues related to film tourism and solve them as well. OTM helped us in getting the target audiences for the presentation. It is always good

A panel discussion on Destination Weddings: How New Locations/Hotels Can Tap New Markets, was

OTM ForumOTM Forum 2019 was a knowledge-sharing initiative aimed at bringing together India and Asia’s most influential travel leaders on one stage. The Forum witnessed panel discussions, masterclasses and workshops conducted by top-level executives from industry leaders like Jet Airways, Thomas Cook, MakeMyTrip, Facebook, Emirates, Cox & Kings and AirAsia.

KEY SESSIONS

Day 1 began with an insightful panel discussion on India’s Outbound Potential-What’s Different in 2019. The session took place between Mahendra Vakharia, President, OTOAI and Peter Brun, Chief Communications Officer, VFS Global and was moderated by Manoj Gursahani, Chairman, US India Investors Forum.

Moderated by Daksh Sharma, Managing Partner, TravHQ, a panel discussion on How Millennials Will Travel in 2019 had industry experts like Naveen Perla, COO, JetSetGo; Ruchi Lahoti, Area Manager-India, Booking.com; Maitrayee Das Banerjee, Head of Marketing, Keys Hotels and Todor Gerovski, COO, 15toGO discuss the changing taste of the millennial travellers and their expectations from the travel industry.

Another interesting panel discussion took place on The Rise of Experiential Travel. Moderated by Nisha B., Founder, Elevated Consultancy Singapore, the discussion saw key players in the field of immersive travel like Vijay Nair, Country Head, National Geographic Expeditions; Aditya Bhat, Head, Jio Studios and Vikram Ahuja, Founder, Byond Travel talked of curated experiences and their influence on today’s travellers.

Decoding the Use Cases of AR-VR in Travel brought together Daksh Sharma, Managing Partner, TravHQ; Aditya Bhat, Head, Jio Studios and Vikram Ahuja, Founder, Byond Travel on one stage, discussing the much-hyped use cases of AR/VR in travel. From busting myths to exploring the fast-changing landscape of technology in travel, the last session of the day was a powerhouse of knowledge.

DAY2Day 2 was no exception in bringing the best minds of the industry on one platform to discuss travel. Influencer Marketing and its Role in the Travel Path to Purchase, moderated by Hitesh Rajwani, CEO, Social Samosa was an eclectic mix of various stakeholders. Leading travel influencers with millions of followers like Sharanya Iyer, Priyanka Chandola and Varun Vagish along with Ajay Awtaney, Founder & Editor, LivefromALounge talked of the role of a travel influencer in inspiring travellers to take a trip.

Opportunities in Indian Aviation: Making it Big in the World’s Most Challenging Aviation Market had eminent panellists from top aviation companies like Rajkumar Paranthaman, Head of Marketing - India – AirAsia; Raj Sivakumar, Senior Vice President - Network & Revenue Management - Jet Airways; Nitin Sethi, Vice President - Digital - Indigo Airlines and Salim Khan, Chief Security Officer - India – Emirates engage in a panel discussion about the changing facets of the aviation industry and its implication for the travel business.

The Future of Travel Content Marketing, moderated by Daksh Sharma, Managing Partner, TravHQ had the best minds of travel trade including Sesh Seshadri, General Manager, Lonely Planet India; Bhawna Grover, Head of Content, GoIbibo; Daniel Cheng, Founder & President - Redefine Tourism Mixer and Abraham Alapatt, President & Group Head - Marketing - Thomas Cook India discuss the metamorphosis of content from traditional to UGC and its impact on the travel industry.

Digital Marketing and Social Media in Travel - Hear from the Giants was a panel discussion that had industry biggies from Facebook, Kayak, Twitter and Uber converse on the changing needs of today’s customers and the demand for tailoring every service to their needs in a highly competitive landscape.

Day 2 began with a masterclass on Strategic Partnerships in Travel. Joerg Esser, former Group Director, Thomas Cook Group advised travel businesses on how to build strong and sustainable partnerships.

User-Generated Content (UGC) and the Future of Content Marketing, hosted by Bhawna Grover Bagai, Head of Content, GoIbibo followed. The concept of UGC and its influence on brand image and business conversions was discussed.

MasterclassWith the aim of bringing participants up-to-speed with the trends and best practices of the travel industry, a series of masterclasses were conducted at the OTM Forum.

Day 1 began with a masterclass on Creative and Strategic Engagement with Your Audience in a Travel Show. Nisha B., Founder - Elevated Consultancy Singapore took an engaging and informative class on how to connect with an audience, make business conversions and build a relationship.

Fcebook partnered with OTM Forum in a knowledge-sharing initiative aimed at bringing together India and Asia’s most

influential travel leaders on one stage. Facebook, in association with OTM

conducted an interactive workshop on digital marketing for travel companies. The workshop was aimed at introducing various stakeholders in the travel industry to the 360 degree digital marketing solutions and opportunities that a platform like Facebook can provide.

An informative panel discussion on the utility of social media in travel took place between Saurav Chakraborty, Industry Manager (Travel), Facebook India and leaders from industry giants like Kayak and Uber. Saurav answered questions on the effectiveness and reach of Facebook’s newest digital offerings like Facebook360 and IGTV.

Facebook also exhibited it’s Virtual Reality product - Oculus Go. Oculus offered all attendees a one-of-its-kind VR experience at OTM Forum 2019. In addition to visitors and exhibitors, industry leaders, senior officials from tourism boards and even tourism ministers tried Oculus Go to understand the use cases of VR in travel marketing.
