Christ University Christ University, formerly Christ College (Autonomous), was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationalist and a social reformer of the nineteenth century. He founded the first indigenous congregation, Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). Established in July 1969, Christ College became the most preferred educational institution in the city of Bengaluru within the first three decades. From 1990 it initiated path breaking reforms in higher education with the introduction of innovative and modern curricula, insistence on academic discipline, imparting of Holistic Education and the support of creative and dedicated staff. Today Christ University is rated among the top ten educational institutions of the country. The UGC conferred Autonomy to Christ College (No. F.13-1/2004) on 7 October 2004 and identified it as an Institution with Potential for Excellence in 2006. On 22July, 2008 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, the Ministry of Human Resources Development of the Union Government of India, vide Notification No. F. 9-34/2007-U.3 (A), declared it a Deemed to be University, in the name and style of Christ University. Faculty of Engineering Faculty of Engineering brings the academics and tech community together to develop transformative ideas and develop pioneering leaders and technologies for the digital age. Faculty of Engineering offers programmes in BTech, MTech and Ph.D in all branches of engineering.

Department of Civil Engineering The Department of Civil Engineering was established in the year 2010 and has well-established facilities for carrying out the activities of basic Civil engineering. It is equipped to meet the present-day technological advances and the industrial requirements matching with the global standards and demands. The department offers BTech in Civil Engineering and MTech in Structural engineering and Ph.D programmes.

Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), Nagpur It is an autonomous research institute under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. The institute is a “Centre of Excellence” for research in basic and applied areas of bauxite, alumina, aluminium and downstream application. The centre is recognized as a Scientific and Research Organization (SIRO) by the Dept. of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. The centre is working on project related to Synergistic utilization of Aluminium Industrial wastes for development of building material using geopolymer route.

About Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) Indian Concrete Institute, founded in 1982, is the premier organization for concrete technologists, with captains of industry, cement manufacturers, leading consultants, academicians, educational institutions and research scientists as active members. ICI has more than 10500 members attached to 30 centres spread all over the country. ICI encourages student participation and has 101 students’ chapters with over 3000 members. The Institute was recognized as a society on 7th September, 1982 with headquarters in Chennai and has been in service to the industry and the professionals. About Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (ACCE) ACCE (India) was formed and registered in 1985 by a group of Consulting Civil Engineers in Bangalore. The main object of the association is to encourage and foster the ideals of the profession, to hold conferences / meetings / seminars for dissemination of knowledge amongst the civil engineers in particular and the society at large. ACCE (I) with its head quarters at Bangalore has since grown into a National Association with centers formed all over India. About American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) ASCE was founded in New York City on November 5, 1852. It was the first national engineering society created in the United States. As part of understanding the history of civil engineering and promoting the civil engineering profession, a survey of the historic accomplishments of civil engineers is continually conducted by ASCE members. Such reviews of civil engineering accomplishments have produced various lists

of the notable categories and projects of the profession. Indian Ceramic Society–Karnataka Chapter (ICSKC) Indian Ceramic Society (InCerS), a non-profit organization, was established in 1928 with the blessings and active support of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, the main architect for establishing the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. Indian Ceramic Society Karnataka chapter is one of the active chapters involved in networking with professionals involved with ceramic, glass, cement and other inorganic materials. ICSKC conducted an international conference in 2014 on cement materials, which included one session on geopolymers. About The Seminar Geopolymers are inorganic, materials that form long-range, covalently bonded, non-crystalline (amorphous) networks .Commercially produced geopolymers may be used for fire- and heat-resistant coatings and adhesives, medicinal applications, high-temperature ceramics, new binders for fire-resistant fiber composites, toxic and radioactive waste encapsulation and as cementing components to make concrete. The properties and uses of geopolymers are being explored in many scientific and industrial disciplines: modern inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, mineralogy, geology, and in other types of engineering process technologies. Raw materials used in the synthesis of silicon-based polymers are mainly rock-forming minerals of geological origin These are Slag-based and Rock-based geopolymer cement, alkali-activated fly ash geopolymer, slag/fly ash-based geopolymer cement and Ferro-

sialate-based geopolymer cement from iron industries. Geopolymer cement concretes (GPCC) are Inorganic polymer composites, which are prospective concretes with the potential to form an environmentally sustainable construction by replacing/supplementing the conventional concretes. GPCC have high strength, with good resistance to chloride penetration, acid attack, etc. GPCC’s are good candidate materials of constructions from both strength and durability considerations. Geopolymer concrete shows significant potential to be a material for the future; because it is not only environmentally friendly but also possesses excellent mechanical properties. The scope of this Seminar is to provide a National Level Platform for researchers, academicians, professionals, engineers and students to share their research ideas on Geopolymer and results of emerging trends and applications in different areas of Civil Engineering.

The Seminar will help the participants to redefine their horizons in recent innovations in technology through technical paper presentations and panel discussions. The topics for the seminar will been chosen based on the thrust areas of research in academia and in industry.
