Lee'Wayne' Hunt,93Lee "Wayne" Hunt was
born on April 23, 1922, inhis father's homesteadcabin near Bay Horse,Powder River County,Montana, to Verl LelandHunt and Ruth Irene(Watkins) Hunt.
He passed away inKalispell on June 22,2015,at the age of 93.
He grew up on thefamily ranch and wasaccustomed to hard workand independent living.Having gone throughthe Great Depression, heIearned to be frugal andhow to repair anythingthat needed repairing.Wayne learned how toentertain himseH as therewas no electricity or TV.He acquired the ruralAmerican trait of practi-caljoking, a trait he hadall his life - even tryingto joke with the nurseswho cared for him on hisdeath bed. His family andfriends have fond memo-ries ofplaying cards,checkers and Yahtzeewith him. And, of course,that homemade ice creamis still a family tradition!
Wayne graduated fromCampbell County HighSchool in Gillette, Wyo-ming, in the spring of1940 and then attendedthe Billings Business Col-lege for one year, study-ing accounting.
He enlisted in the ArmyAir Force on Oct. 14,1942,in Butte and began activeservice on Feb. 17, 1943.He was trained as an air-craft instrument repair-man and was also quali-fied as a sharpshooter(carbine), receiving anhonorable discharge atFort Bliss, Texas, on Feb.1, 1946.
He had a lifelong pas-sion for cars and air-planes and at an earlyage could correctly iden-tify oncoming cars asto make and model, andcould identify what kindof plane was flying over-head. He worked for theChevrolet dealer in Bill-
ings whileattendingcollegethere andbecame oneof their topsalesmen.Wayneobtainedhis privatepilot'sIicenseafter leav-ing the
servlce.Wayne married Mona
Lucille Hubbard in Gil-Iette on Sept. 12, 1948.They purchased a rancheight miles north ofPowderville, Montana,where they ranched until1968. There were benefitsto being a pilot and arancher - he was able tofly to his parents' ranchto help them out whenneeded, fly his pregnantwife to Miles City to givebirth, fly his children toschool and he was able tosave many hours of workby flying over the ranchto locate the cattle whenit was time for rounduP.Those airplane rides atthe ranch were betterthan any carnival ride!
In 1968, they movedto Northwest Montananear Columbia Falls. Heworked at Harlow Chev-rolet for a time as servicemanager and then movedon to other work. Grand-children enticed them tomove to Bozeman wherehe started building andselling houses, movingback to Kalispell in theearly'90s.
He was preceded indeath by his parents, hisolder brother WarrenHunt, and daughter LindaPearl (Hunt) Rea.
He is survived by hiswife of almost 67 years,Mona; a son, Roger, andPaula; and daughter,Wanda Haugen, and Milt;12 grandchildren and 16great-grandchildren.
There will be a privalefamily urn burial at Fair-view Cemetery at a later
