OUR APPROACH TO SOCIAL MEDIA ANALYTICS

Date of Information: 23 MAY 2015

OUR VIEW OF SOCIAL MEDIA ANALYTICS

The use of social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn etc. poses several challenges for intelligence analysts.

• Fragments that needs a context.

• The use of symbols, abbreviations, emoticons etc.

• The number of potential sources that broadcast the same or slightly altered messages.

• The constant changes in platforms, software, services and user platform preference.

• Non-uniform way, even on individual level, of expressing the own voice. (spellcheck is a luxury commodity)

• Mimicking messages and voices without attribution.

• The bad guys knows how to fake location and identity. Nothing is new.

Our view of Social media analytics for Intelligence output – analysis of social media data in context to better understand individual and organizational interaction dynamics with the aim to Identify, Monitor, Track & Measure Influence and Reach. Build structured dynamic dossiers in order to create optimal decision-support for informed actions.

WHAT WHEN WHO

WHERE WHYWHATSNEXT

What is the subject? Does it affect our client? What is the tone of voice? Is it primary or secondary information?

When did the messages occur? Is it talking about past, present or future?

Who is talking, who is listening, who is augmenting? Identifying potential community, Social Advocates, Influencers

CORE QUESTIONS WE ANSWER

Is there a geolocation for the source (s)? Is the source near the content of the message if a geolocation is mentioned?

Why is the message broadcasted? Does it include actionable information?

Predictions about future actions, suggestion for own actions.
