IMAGINING OTHER FUTURESThis is the title devised by curators María and Lorena de Corral, Catalina Lozano and Aaron Moulton, to celebrate ARCOmadrid’s special edition. Rather than having a guest country, this year we will analyse and revise the contents of ARCOmadrid’s last 35 years. The selected galleries will highlight two artists, chosen by the curatorial team.

AÑO 35. MADRIDWith the occasion of its 35 anniversary, ARCOmadrid will spread through the city. AÑO 35. MADRID, is an idea by Javier Hontoria that wishes to establish a relationship between several city institutions depending on different administrations and led by the Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte. The project will pay tribute to the city from the city itself and it will be a new way to contemplate spaces such as the Museo Arqueológico Nacional, Museo Nacional de Antropología, Museo Cerralbo, Tabacalera Promoción del Arte, Museo del Romanticismo, Casa de la Moneda and Casa Árabe.

35 YEARS OF CURATORS IN ARCOmadridThe celebration of our 35 anniversary is an opportunity to thank over 160 curators for their generosity and their legacy in their working with the Fair all these years. On Saturday 27th February a Forum paying tribute to all of them will take place.

CELEBRATIONSTo mark for the ocasion of its l#35Aniversario, ARCOmadrid, will organize meetings, dinners, parties and celebrations, starting on February 1, at the Círculo de Bellas Artes with a symposium led by professor Calvo Serraller.

CONSTANT. NEW BABYLON Curators: Laura Stamps and Doede Hardeman The section on Constant’s relationship with Spain was curated by Rosario Peiró and Pedro G. Romero.Under the title New Babylon, the show focuses mainly on his most emblematic project: the artist’s concept about the city of the future.

IGNASI ABALLÍ. WITHOUT BEGINNING / WITHOUT END Curator: João Fernandes.Ignasi Aballí (Barcelona, 1958) offers a conceptual reflection on the representation and perception of mediums such as painting, the object, photography, fiction, film and video. HITO STEYERL. DUTY-FREE ART Curator: João Fernandes.Regarded as one of the most relevant contemporary artists in the field of video art, Hito Steyerl (Munich, 1966) approaches current themes in her work, for instance the impact the proliferation of images and the use of the internet and technology have on our lives.

JUAN GIRALT Curator: Carmen Giménez.The show devoted to Juan Giralt (Madrid, 1940-2007) has a sharper focus on the last period of Giralt’s career, also including some of his more emblematic artworks from the 70's.

ALEXANDRE ESTRELA Curator: João Fernandes.Alexandre Estrela (Lisbon, 1971) uses film and video as the core mediums in his artistic practice, which he defines as an approach to “formal and conceptual questions resulting from the intersection between images and subject matter”. In this occasion and within Fisuras programme, the artist works on an audio-visual piece produced by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.You must show your VIP card at the Museum’s entrance.
