Mass Schedule & Intentions
13th Sunday in Ordinary Time In other words - The Sunday gospel in everyday English
After Jesus crossed over by boat, a large crowd met him at the seaside. One of the meeting-place leaders named Jairus came. When he saw Jesus, he fell to his knees, beside himself as he begged, “My dear daughter is at death’s door. Come and lay hands on her so she will get well and live.” Jesus went with him, the whole crowd tagging along, pushing and jostling him. A woman who had suffered a condition of hemorrhaging for twelve years—a long succession of physicians had treated her, and treated her badly, taking all her money and leaving her worse off than before—had heard about Je-sus. She slipped in from behind and touched his robe. She was thinking to herself, “If I can put a finger on his robe, I can get well.” The moment she did it, the flow of blood dried up. She could feel the change and knew her plague was over and done with. At the same moment, Jesus felt energy discharging from him. He turned around to the crowd and asked, “Who touched my robe?” His disciples said, “What are you talking about? With this crowd pushing and jostling you, you’re asking, ‘Who touched me?’ Dozens have touched you!” But he went on asking, looking around to see who had done it. The woman, knowing what had happened, knowing she was the one, stepped up in fear and trembling, knelt before him, and gave him the whole story. Jesus said to her, “Daughter, you took a risk of faith, and now you’re healed and whole. Live well, live blessed! Be healed of your plague.” While he was still talking, some people came from the leader’s house and told him, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher any more?” Jesus overheard what they were talking about and said to the leader, “Don’t listen to them; just trust me.” He permit-ted no one to go in with him except Peter, James, and John. They entered the leader’s house and pushed their way through the gossips looking for a story and neighbors bringing in casseroles. Jesus was abrupt: “Why all this busybody grief and gossip? This child isn’t dead; she’s sleeping.” Provoked to sarcasm, they told him he didn’t know what he was talking about. But when he had sent them all out, he took the child’s father and mother, along with his companions, and entered the child’s room. He clasped the girl’s hand and said, “Talitha koum,” which means, “Little girl, get up.” At that, she was up and walking around! This girl was twelve years of age. They, of course, were all beside themselves with joy. He gave them strict orders that no one was to know what had taken place in that room. Then he said, “Give her something to eat” (from Mark 5). First Reading
According to the Jewish sage, "God did not make death." How then did death enter into the world, according to Wisdom?
Second Reading
Paul encourages the wealthier Christians in Corinth to help the needy in the community out of their abundance. In what ways do you live by this spiritual practice?
Gospel Reading
We hear two healing miracles in today's Gospel reading, both of which con-nect one's faith to healing. When has your faith led to healing?
Questions of the Week
Outreach is an important part of our identity as followers of Jesus at St. Matthew. It’s also part of our com-mitment to give FIVE MORE as we live our faith. Being an active Catholic isn’t just about attending Mass on the weekends…it is an invitation to follow the Lord intentionally. Here at St. Matthew we started a process called FIVE MORE. If each one of us as a family, couple and individual can give FIVE MORE of themselves to be a disciple of Christ then we can all make a difference in our parish and within the community.
Social Justice & Outreach - FIVE MORE
“The Catholic faith is a spiritual North Star. We cannot force people to follow the star, but we can point them to the star—and we must. It is our duty and
our obligation to share the faith by our words and our actions. Sharing the faith
begins in the domestic church, the family.”
- John. R. Wood from The Light Entrusted to You
Have you ever thought of visiting Haiti?
Spaces are available to travel with Hands and Hearts
with Haiti and Food for the Poor to celebrate the dedica-
tion of the new school in Noyau that St. Matthews pa-
rishioners helped build through our donations.
Food for the Poor who was the contractor for the new
school and one of the largest aid organization in Haiti
will lead the trip. It will not only involve the school dedi-
cation but visit several other programs in other commu-
nities in Haiti where Food for the Poor operates.
Several St. Matthew parishioners involved with Hands
and Hearts with Haiti will be traveling down early to par-
ticipate in the local parish’s annual feast day celebration
and to visit with staff and see the programs Hands and
Hearts with Haiti are involved with. The trip will
be August 23 – 31. If interested only in the Food for the
Poor portion of the trip it is August 27 – 31. For more
information on the trip contact Barth or Mary Jo
Wolf 920-621-6097 or email [email protected]. For
more information on Hands and Hearts vis-
it www.handsandheartswithhaiti.org and for Food for
the Poor visit http://www.foodforthepoor.org.

2018 Green Bay MobilePack #1810-093AU
October 1st - 5th, 2018
Green Bay Community Church
What is a MobilePack? MobilePack events take place across
the United States throughout the year. Over 250 Mo-
bilePack events were held last year! Each MobilePack
event needs at least 2,500 volunteers to pack over
500,000 meals. There are many ways to volunteer at a
MobilePack event, something for everyone regardless of
age, ability, or limitation. Feed My Starving Children in-
vites adults and older children to participate in these
events by packing food or donating funds.
At each MobilePack event meals, that are specifically for-
mulated for malnourished children, are hand-packed by
hundreds of volunteers. These meals are then shipped
all over the globe.
More information available at fmsc.org
Feed My Starving Children is a Christian based non-profit who’s goal is to end starvation in the world. They rely on volunteers to hand pack all the meals they produce and to fundraise for all the ingredients packed. Each meal costs only $.22 and this year FMSC expects to pack over 300 million meals. The meals are a scientifically balanced mix of rice, soy, vegetables and vita-mins. They are packaged in sealed pouches containing six meals in each
pouch. Simply add water and heat up and these meals provide a very nutritious meal for those who other-wise often go without a decent meal for days at a time. FMSC gives these meals at no charge to partner or-ganizations in over 70 countries around the world. In 2017 St. Matthew Parish became a partner church with Feed My Starving Children and participated in the October 2017 Green Bay MobilePack at Green Bay Community Church.
