Hillsboro Happenings 115 N Covington •Hillsboro, TX 76645 July 16, 2018, Volume 4, Issue 4 254-582-2481 www.hillsborochamber.org I believe this is the first time that I have ever had a spectator of an event call and show so much gratitude for an event and for the event organizer. The caller told me how much he appreciated the Elm Street Rod Run and he wanted to show his Gratitude to Carroll Estes for his hard work and vision for Hillsboro’s Classic Car Show. He went on to say the volunteers were so courteous and helpful. He observed them working together to create a memorable event for the guests to Hillsboro. He and I had a delightful conversation and I want to share some of his comments. “I called Carroll Estes and thanked him for putting on the car show on Monday after the Elm Street Rod Run. The weekend was a memorable experience for me. I am Don Justin Price from Willis, Texas, near Conroe and we spent Friday and Saturday in Hillsboro. I also wanted to call and share my gratitude with you for putting on the Elm Street Rod Run. We toured the Roadside America Museum and the Cell Block Museum. It was the classic car show that brought us to Hillsboro.” Friday when I met you, you said, “Hi! I am Vicki with the Chamber. Let me share with you some information about the ‘must sees’ in Hillsboro. Then you gave us information about your dining options and museums in the area.” He continued, “Our experience in Hillsboro is what America should be. Everyone was so courteous. There was no anger, shouting or inappropriate language – everyone was getting along. The volunteers were so helpful. You could feel the unity when you visited with the volunteers. My take away from the day, was Hillsboro is a community where you can feel the unity.” Continued…. www .hillsborochamber.org Like us on Facebook -- Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce Building on our Successes www. Mr. Price went on to say, “I have travelled to car museums across the country. This experience was the most delightful that I have experienced in years. I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed our visit to Hillsboro. Our dining experiences were great too! The Brandy Roberts Band and Elm Street Rod Run experiences are memories that I will cherish for my lifetime. We will be back next year and bring a group with us.”

To conclude the call, I commented to Mr. Price, “You made my day. We need to have more conversations like this to share what is good about Hillsboro, Texas and the USA.”

I want to challenge everyone in Hillsboro to make a phone call or personal visit to someone and encourage them by identifying something in their life that you can offer praise, kindness or gratitude.

Mr. Price is as disenchanted as I am with the offensive dialogue which is penetrating our culture. Insults upon insults, mockery upon mockery and superiority of conscience upon superiority of standards is poisoning our culture. He is making a difference by showing gratitude – You can do the same.

When he said people need more experiences like what he experienced in Hillsboro, he created a spark in my mind. What would happen if 10% of the citizens in Hillsboro, made a commitment to contact one person a day and express gratitude to their friends, neighbors or business associates?

(Hillsboro, TX 05/30/18) - Hill Family Medicine is now a multispecialty clinic as they welcome Dr. Karen Vaughn. Dr. Vaughn is board certified in both Pediatrics and Internal Medicine allowing her to care for adults and children. Dr. Vaughn received her medical degree from the University of Texas at Houston Health Science Center and completed her residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Vaughn is excited to start her new practice in Central Texas and said Hill Family Medicine “feels like a

family environment.” Besides spending time with her daughter, she enjoys sports and DIY home projects. When asked what her practice philosophy is she responded, “The physician-patient relationship is built on trust. I will work to earn that trust with you.” Dr. Vaughn continued that she strives to be compassionate and listen to her patients. “I try to meet my patients where they are and form a partnership in their care,” she said.

Over the summer is a great time to schedule wellness visits for children and annual checkups for adults. Dr. Vaughn advises that summer is also an ideal time to create an asthma care plan for your child. “I like to create asthma care plans that will work at home and at school. I will work with the parents, child, and school nurse to create a custom plan tailored to your child’s needs,” said Dr. Vaughn.

“We are excited to expand our list of specialists available in Hill County. Dr. Vaughn’s knowledge and experience in both pediatrics and internal medicine makes her the clear choice to be your family physician,” said Mike Ellis, CEO at Hill Regional Hospital.

Dr. Vaughn is currently accepting new adult and children patients. call 254.582.8006 to schedule an appointment.

COMMENTS FROM OUR MEMBERS

The Chamber helps us keep up with local events and has

always done a great job of helping me share with our guests

what there is to do in Hillsboro. Vicki frequently provides me

with the tools to tempt some of our "just passing through"

guests -- into guests who come back again. I specifically love

having the updated restaurant guide so that I can easily

recommend the "right" restaurant for each guest based on their

preferences and what is available--instead of sending someone

towards a "closed" restaurant due to hours of operation or

outdated information. Sondra Smith, Quality Inn

Thank you for supporting the Hillsboro Youth Sports

Association. The Yellow Bags with goodies were a big hit at the

State Tournament. Bruce Urbanovsky

We rely on your calendar! It keeps us informed.

Mary Alice Eastland, Hillsboro Heritage League

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your support

in putting together the Job Fair…you did an outstanding

job…Everything was professionally done.

Laura Harborth, Gate Precast Company

Working with the chamber to build community has value as

we strengthen the business environment.

Karen Doskocil, Lone Star Ag Credit

We are excited to once again sponsor Halloween in Hillsboro.

Thank you for the chamber’s encouragement and support last

year. This year will be bigger and better.

Rhett Reddell, R & R Fitness

The Chamber helped promote Dickey’s BBQ Pit by

encouraging volunteer participation in the Ambassador

program and chamber events.

"...No Chamber of Commerce in our 40 years as business

owners, has been more welcoming, been more attentive, been

as willing to listen to suggestions and ideas, or tendered more

tangible value than you and your team at the Hillsboro

Chamber…”
