The ICRC is a private international organization found in 1863 with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and has been working in Pakistan since 1947. The ICRC is present in Peshawar since 1980 when it provided relief and medical assistance to the victims of the Afghan war. The ICRC Headquarters Agreement with the Government of Pakistan was signed in 1994. Currently in Pakistan, the ICRC is reaching out to people in need through developing local partnerships
and work as a force multiplier, create communities of concern and teach best practice. In partnerships with credible national organizations, the ICRC is working to bring real and long-term sustainable change in the fields of health,
physical rehabilitation, community-based risk education, restoring family links, promotion of international
humanitarian law, and forensics.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) the ICRC in close collaboration with Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and
National Societies around the world, is working for the restoration of links between families in Pakistan with their separated family members in other countries. The ICRC`s Physical Rehabilitation Program provides a
range of services to Persons with Disabilities through local partners and service providers in KP. In partnership with the Department of Health KP the ICRC is striving to improve quality of healthcare services in the province in terms of capacity building, infrastructural modifications, provision of medical and non-
medical equipment, and life-saving medications. Health Care in Danger is a global initiative of the ICRC aimed at affording better protection to health professionals and their patients. A research study on “Violence
Against Health-Care Workers” was launched in 16 cities of Pakistan with the objective to determine types, magnitude and factors of violence against healthcare workers, and in-practice policies for protection of
healthcare workers. Promoting and strengthening IHL is an integral component of the ICRC`s mandate. The ICRC agrees with the KP Police to raise capacity of the Police Officers in areas like public order management, First Aid and safe explosive handling. The ICRC in KP continued to purchase various food and non -food items
and services from the local market to respond to global humanitarian needs in Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, Central African Republic, Somalia, Nigeria, Syria, Kenya, Bangladesh, Rwanda, South Sudan, Jordan and Ivory
Coast.
The ICRC provides financial and technical support to the provincial branch of PRCS KP and eight district branches in
Kohat, Bannu, Lower Dir, DI Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kurram and South Waziristan for humanitarian response.

WFP’s Nutrition Portfolio in Pakistan
“Stunting can deprive children of the opportunity to reach their full potential in life”. In order to break the inter-generational cycle of undernutrition, WFP in collaboration with provincial and national Governments is focusing on an impact proven nutrition intervention for children under five years of age and pregnant and lactating women.
WFP’s innovative approaches have yielded very promising results in Sindh and Southern Punjab. Similar initiatives are being scaled-up to some of
the most vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its newly merged districts. As a technical lead in nutrition, WFP is increasingly generating landmark evidence and innovations within the country to inform decisions, create policies
and develop programmes alongside the Government. Evidence and innovations generated include the stunting prevention model, CMAM Surge, commercialization of specialized nutritious foods, shock responsive social
protection and a combined protocol for treatment of severe and moderate acute malnutrition (SAM and MAM) without complications for children under five.
To survive and develop, mothers and children need the right food at the right time. When mothers are healthy and receive an age-appropriate nutritious diet, they are able to have healthy pregnancies and babies. Healthy babies grow
into healthy children, who are able to learn, engage actively, be more productive and earn more as adults. When families are unable to afford a nutritious diet, it has a negative impact on the health, education and wellbeing of mothers and children.
In partnership with the Government and other UN
Agencies, WFP is providing quality implementation and technical expertise on the treatment of acute malnutrition and prevention of stunting in children
under five. In 2019, in collaboration with the Government, WFP treated 129,304 moderately acute
malnourished (MAM) children under five (boys: 61,240; girls: 68,064) and 126,700 pregnant and lactating women (PLW) across Pakistan. Through the stunting
prevention programme, WFP assisted 128,873 children aged 6-59 months and pregnant and lactating women (PLW).
In addition, WFP has substantially improved nutrition
governance across the country by leading coordination forums such as the SUN Secretariat, the SUN Business Network, National and Provincial Fortification Alliances (NFA and PFA) and the Pakistan One United Nations Programme III (OP III).
