place 1st in an event. The other schools competed very well, but Pinewood managed to win overall

on the day. On behalf of all students at Pinewood P.S, we would like to thank Mr Walsh, Ms

McGregor, the teachers who attended on the day and the S.D.S.S.A for making this day

happen. Thank you also to all the year 3-6 teachers who trained us.

We hope all the students who participated in athletics, including those from other schools, had fun

and enjoyed the day!

French News We received the very exciting news over the weekend that our video

submission into the “La Francophonie around the World” competition had

won first place in the Year 5 and 6 category, awarded by the Association of

French Teachers in Victoria and the French Consulate.

The objectives of the competition were:

To provide learning opportunities for students to deepen their knowledge of the diversity of the

Francophonie world by exploring a French speaking country. To provide an opportunity for students to speak French through a

meaningful and authentic experience. To encourage and promote the learning of French as an essential

part of the school curriculum.

Submissions were assessed based on their range of content and ideas, appropriateness of

vocabulary, accurate use of French, clarity of expression, originality and creativity.

Congratulations to our French Captains and Madame Vinga for all of their hard work with this

submission! The students have been invited to attend an award ceremony at the French Consulate in

June.

We have also had the new shade sail installed in the “French Café” space, creating a very flexible

area for class use, as well as a passive play and eating space for students to access at recess and

lunchtime all year round.

School Attendance Classrooms are open from 8:55am each day, and students have the 10 minutes until 9:05am to arrive at school before they are marked as late or absent. This is to alleviate congestion in the school yard and around classroom doors at the start of the day. If you do need to collect your child for an appointment throughout the day, please let the class teacher know so we can arrange to have your child meet you at the office upon your arrival. Enrolments for Prep 2022 We are accepting enrolments for Prep in 2022, and school tours have commenced again every Tuesday at 9:30am. We encourage our school families with younger siblings due to start next year, to contact the school office and complete an enrolment form. End of Term Reminder Next Thursday 1st of April will be the last day of Term 1. Students will be dismissed at 2:30pm, with parents able to collect their children from classrooms from 2:25pm. Hello everyone! We hope you have enjoyed being back at school and we are now looking forward to the Easter break. Storytime has started up again this term for Preps, Ones and Twos on Tuesdays at 12.50pm. This week we read The Terrible Plop by Ursula Dubosarsky. Miu Miu also read a Chinese New Year themed book called Speak Chinese Fang Fang by Sally Rippin. She really liked reading the book because it had great pictures and she would recommend all juniors look for it in the library in R of the picture fiction shelves. Anudi and Annie (The French Captain) read Mr Chicken Goes to Paris by Leigh Hobbs and here’s what Anudi had to say. “It was a great book that I highly recommend to Junior and even older students.” P.S. They also wore berets for the session. The very first Storytime was called The Cat Wants Custard by P. Crumble and it was a hit. We hope you can come and visit the library for Storytime soon. Mrs Hayden and the Library Captains would like to say a big thankyou to the ICT Captains, Cameron, Conor, Reilly and Tim who took photos during Storytime sessions. Your Library Captains Anudi, Erin and Miu Miu

Bonjour, Pinewood Primary School community. This week I would like to acknowledge the work that the French captains do every week. Annie, Rishitha and Mitchell are extremely dedicated, giving up part of their play time to come and assist in the junior lessons, they maintain the order in the French café and the teaching space and have participated already in an interschool film competition. On Harmony Day, the captains were extremely helpful in the baking activity. We made French brioches tréssées. They really enjoyed the products of their work! This week I am listing the French words for a range of classroom commands that all of the classes

enjoy practising. Ask your children to demonstrate the actions to you.

Meilleures voeux, Madame Vinga
