REFLEXION Y LECTURAS DE HOY Primera lectura — Quedaron llenos del Espíritu Santo y se pusieron a hablar idiomas distintos (Hechos 2:1-11). Salmo — Envía, Señor, tu Espíritu, y renueva la tierra (Salmo 104 [103]). Segunda lectura — Hay diferentes dones, pero el Espíritu es el mismo (1 Corintios 12:3b-7, 12-13). LA RIQUEZA DEL ESPÍRITU Los estudiantes y la mayoría de los adultos que recuerdan sus días de escuela, están familiarizados con la frase “compara y contrasta” que de tanto en tanto aparece en las pruebas. Hoy escuchamos dos relatos diferentes sobre la venida del Espíritu. Contrastemos y luego comparemos. El relato de Lucas en Hechos está lleno de detalles impresionantes: el viento poderoso, llamas de fuego como lenguas, el milagro de las diferentes lenguas. El relato de Juan parece tímido: discípulos temerosos, el Cristo llagado, el soplo de aliento viene de su cuerpo resucitado y no del cielo. Mientras nuestras mentes modernas y literales se preguntan de qué manera sucedió; nuestra ruidosa cultura probablemente nos hará preferir el primer relato. Pero si comparamos los dos, la deslumbrante riqueza del Espíritu llena ambos relatos, ya que es el mismo aliento del Cristo resucitado, ascendido a los cielos en Lucas, el que se aparece a sus discípulos en Juan y envía a sus seguidores a llevar a cabo su misión de perdonar los pecados y proclamar los portentos de Dios.

TODAY’S READINGS AND REFLECTION First Reading — Filled with the Holy Spirit, the apostles begin to speak in tongues (Acts 2:1-11). Psalm — Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth (Psalm 104). Second Reading — In one Spirit we are baptized into one body and given to drink of one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13). Gospel — Jesus Christ appears to the disciples and sends them on their mission with the power to forgive or retain sins through the Holy Spirit (John 20:19-23). THE RICHNESS OF THE SPIRIT Students, and most adults recalling their school days, are familiar with the phrase “compare and contrast” that shows up from time to time on tests. Today we hear two different accounts of the giving of the Holy Spirit to the church. Let’s contrast, then compare. Luke’s account from Acts is filled with arresting details: the mighty wind from heaven, the tongues of flame, the miracle of different languages. John’s account seems timid: fearful disciples, the wounded Christ, the expelling of breath from his risen body, not from the sky. Our literal, modern minds wonder which way it happened; our noisy culture probably makes us prefer the former. But if we compare the two, we find that the dazzling richness of the Spirit fills both accounts, for it is the very breath of the risen Christ, ascended to the sky in Luke, that appears to his disciples in John and sends his followers forth to carry on his mission of forgiving sin and proclaiming the mighty acts of God.

O Mary, you always shine on our path

as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,

who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm.

You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so

that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after

this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love,

to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus,

who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us,

through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen. Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of

God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger,

Oremos por nuestros enfermos, de nuestra Parroquia, de nuestra

comunidad, de nuestro país y de todo el mundo para que el Señor les dé la Salud de

cuerpo, alma y espíritu. Amén

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo:

“Nadie puede llamar a Jesús “Señor”, si no es bajo la acción del Espíritu Santo. Hay diferentes dones, pero el Espíritu es el mismo. Hay diferentes servicios, pero el Señor es el mismo. Hay diferentes actividades, pero Dios, que hace todo en todos, es el mismo. En cada uno se manifiesta el Espíritu para el bien común”. Estamos viviendo una situación tan difícil de sobrellevar, que según van pasando los días se va tornando tan incierta que si no nos agarramos de Dios caeríamos en una profunda desesperación. Imploramos que el Espíritu Santo derrame sus dones y detenga a quienes arruinan la faz de la tierra, condenándola a un caos de toda índole. Necesitamos un nuevo Pentecostés sobre todo el planeta, el mundo es como es y necesitamos identificar al enemigo común para contrarrestarlo con el poder del Espíritu Santo y su verdad salvadora para vivir tiempos donde el amor de Dios sea el imperativo común.

Lo que estamos viviendo es un ataque a la práctica de nuestra fe, las décadas de avance de la iglesia para contrarrestar el individualismo, se va debilitando de forma agresiva (no más de diez) aunque sepamos que es obvio por evitar más contagios. Clamamos a Dios Padre, Dios Hijo y Dios Espíritu Santo para que se supere esta pandemia y nos adentremos en días de alivio y vida plena. Necesitamos volver a sentirnos comunidad de fieles con libertad de congregarnos sin ningún miedo, ni restricción. Espíritu Santo ven, danos tus dones y sana a esta humanidad caída, aclara nuestro horizonte, sé tú nuestro destino. Ya desde el martes 26 la iglesia ha abierto sus puertas, necesariamente tenemos que seguir las reglas, venir con mascarilla, desinfectarse las manos, no tocar las imágenes y por ahora no más de diez, ni juntarse para rezar el Rosario. Por ahora no misas, hasta nueva orden. Sigamos orando para que vengan días donde sigamos adorando a Dios en comunidad, y la libertad de hijos de un mismo Padre, velando por el bien común y el bienestar de todos. Que el Señor venga en nuestra ayuda. Gracias a quienes siguen enviando por correo o al buzón de la rectoría sus ofrendas, eso es importante para ésta su parroquia.

From the Desk of the Pastor... Del Escritorio Del Párroco... Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: "No one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord’, except by the Holy Spirit. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” We are living in a situation that is so difficult to cope with; as the days go by, with things becoming so uncertain, we could easily fall into deep despair if we do not depend on God. We implore the Holy Spirit to pour out his gifts upon us and deter those who would bring ruin to the face of the earth causing all kinds of chaos. We need a new Pentecost for the entire planet. In the world as it is now, we need to identify the common enemy and counter it with the power of the Holy Spirit and his saving truth in order to live in a time where the love of God is the common imperative. What we are experiencing is an attack on the practice of our faith. The decades of progress made in the church to counteract individualism, is being sharply weakened (no more than ten persons at one time) although we realize that the reason is to avoid more contagions. We cry out to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit that this pandemic be overcome and that we may once again enter into days of relief and full life. We need to experience being a community of the faithful again, with the freedom to gather without fear or restriction. Holy Spirit come, give us your gifts and heal this fallen humanity, brighten our horizon, be our destiny. Since Tuesday the 26th the church has opened its doors. We necessarily have to follow the rules - come with a mask, disinfect our hands, refrain from touching the statues and for now no more than ten persons at a time and also no communal praying of the Rosary. At this time, no masses until further notice. Let us continue to pray for days to come when we will continue to worship God in community and with the freedom of children of the one Father, caring for the common good and well-being of all. May the Lord come to our aid. Thanks to those who continue to send their offerings whether by mail, drop off or on-line giving; this is so important for our parish.

REOPENING ST. FORTUNATA CHURCH Bishop DiMarzio has given authorization for the opening of Churches: There will be three phases of reopening; the 1st phase for private prayer and devotion only: St. Fortunata will be open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 10:00 in the morning for those who want to come to pray. The 2nd phase is daily Masses from Monday to Saturday, still pending; and the 3rd phase is Sunday Masses, still pending. More information to follow. • The faithful must clean their hands with hand sanitizer and wear masks at all times in the church. • There is to be no congregating of people. There should not be more than ten (10) people in the church and there cannot be a group gathered. • The faithful must not touch statues or other devotional objects in the church. • The faithful must observe social distancing rules. • The elderly and all who are health-compromised

MUST be advised to stay home. • There is to be NO holy water in the fountains. • There is still no order to celebrate daily
