FAITH MOMENT REFLECTION

The imagery of today's gospel is quite powerful. Jesus tells us there will be a time when the sun will darken, the moon will not shine, and stars will fall from the sky. Then He tells us when we see these things, the glory and power of God will be near. Jesus is teaching us that the presence of God in our lives never ends. When we experience darkness and feel like we can't take it anymore, stop and look closely. It is especially at these times that God is near. The scripture reading from the Book of Mark also reminds us that we are called to imitate God and be present to those who may be experiencing darkness. We may be the angel that God sends to help – to comfort an ill friend, to visit with a lonely neighbor, or support a family in need. God's presence never ends. It is up to us to share His light with one another. Today's Faith Moment was provided by Christ the King Seminary. You can listen to Faith Moments on WLOF 101.7 FM, WBEN radio 930 AM, or at www.faithmomentsonline.org.

VOCATIONS CORNER

God has given us many opportunities to serve Him, but we do not know when our final opportunity will come. We only know that time continues to pass. Before any more time is wasted, ask God how He is calling you to serve him. If God is calling you to a church vocation, call our pastor, Fr. Steve, or Fr. Andrew Lauricella at (716) 847-5535. You can also check out the “Priest of the Month” stories at www.buffalovocations.org.

Dear Family,

We are entering the final two weeks of the Liturgical Year leading us into the season of Advent. The Church, through our readings at Mass this weekend, directs our thoughts to the end times. We as human beings often avoid thinking about that time when all of God’s creation as we know it will cease and we will be called into the Final Judgment that is referred to in our readings. The wonderful thing about these readings though is that they give great comfort to those who follow the ways of God! If we keep true to God’s teachings, we have nothing to fear as we will be judged justly and welcomed into God’s Heaven! The only reason we would have to fear the end times is if we have lived a life contrary to God’s teaching without being repentant of our sins. The Church gives us these weeks to reflect on God’s gracious mercy and to realize that He loves us beyond all imagining. Our goal as Christians is to enter into eternal life with God, either at the end of our life here on earth or at the end time if we are still alive at that moment. Let us always be prepared!

This Thursday as a nation we celebrate Thanksgiving. Let us call to mind the many blessings we have as a country and in our own personal lives and truly give thanks to God for them as we gather around the dinner table with family and friends! Just a reminder that the best way to start Thanksgiving Day is to come to Mass at 9 AM and join with our parish family to give thanks by partaking of the Eucharistic feast!

Praised Be Jesus Christ…Now and Forever!!!

Fr. Steve

Wishing all our Senior members a wonderful, family-centered Thanksgiving celebration. We are blessed with our families, supportive friendships, comfortable homes,

good health, and our life in such a beautiful region like WNY. There is no meeting on November 28. The menu choices for your Christmas dinner are: Roasted turkey breast with the trimmings, sliced sirloin of beef with gravy, or Garlic crusted tilapia. You may gather at noon at Classics V Terrace Room and enjoy the punch (cash bar available) and festivities. The meals will be served at 12:30 PM. Jim and Janice Hoeflich have been planning for months to bring you another great party. To help them with final preparations, please drop off your reservations by placing your menu choice, name, phone number and $21 in an envelope to be left at the Rectory. Deadline is November 30. If there are any questions, please contact Sandy Radens at (716) 868-2865.

Looking to Scripture, we know from the Genesis creation stories that all that God created was "good", God gave us the responsibility to care for creation. However, “Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all living things that move on earth" (Gn 1:28), has often been

misinterpreted to justify reckless use of resources. A more accurate interpretation calls us to be caretakers and tenders of the Creator's garden. -- Taken from St. Anthony Messenger Press

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Hello All, We had a beautiful All Saints’ Day Mass on November 1! Students processed in with the Saint pictures from their classrooms. Each classroom is dedicated to a saint. For example, Grade 5 Room 200 is St. Clare of Assisi. Grade 1 Room 104 is St. Christopher and Grade 8 Room 205 is St. Luke. Students will be doing more with their classroom saints during the season of Advent.

When we pray together every morning, we begin with our school prayer:

“I have what it takes to live each day with all my heart. To believe in the strength and goodness within me.

To find the answers I need. I have what it takes because I have God’s love.”

Then we offer up all our Prayers of the Faithful. It is very inspiring to hear the thoughts and prayers that come from the students, faculty and those who have asked us to remember them or an intention in a very special way. We pray for those who are sick, for those who have died, for peace, for current events in our community, country and world, for our families, for you, our parish community… just to name a few. Then we listen to some words from Project Wisdom and we are faced with something to think about…

“Make it a great day… or not. The choice is yours.”

God’s Blessings,

Principal Bryk

SAVE THE DATE

We will be selling tickets for the Women’s Advent gathering this Sunday in the Narthex following all Masses. Tickets will also be available in the Parish Office. We will not be selling tickets the weekend of

Parish Outreach Christmas Wish Tree

St. Christopher’s Parish Outreach & the Christian Service Committee will be decorat-ing the Wish Tree in the Narthex the week of November 11 with ornaments requesting

gifts for children from ages newborn - 13.

If you would like to provide a gift for a child:

Purchase the gift or gift card and return unwrapped as soon as possible or by Friday, December 7.

Please attach the ornament to your gift. Gifts can be returned to the Parish Outreach on Mondays,

Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 AM until 2 PM or to the Parish Office.

If you cannot find the requested gift, you may substitute the gift with a similar item.

The tree is up so early in the Narthex because we need the gifts back by early December to get them ready to give to our families.

SPEND TIME IN ADORATION

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament comes easily. Never feel worried if you find you have no thoughts at all while you are before the Blessed Sacrament. Never feel inadequate about being an adorer even if you have not developed a spirit of devotion, if you are numb, down and out, weakened by life. The all important factor is that you are before

the Lord. Before Him who knows you inside-out. He reads your innermost thoughts and He still loves you immensely. Imagine that! St. John Vianney once compared adoration to spiritual sunbathing. You are taking in the warmth of the grace and love radiating from the Sacred Host. Adoration is held in the chapel every Tuesday from 9 AM - 7 PM. Please sign up for a half-hour shift in the Adoration Binder in the Narthex or email Anita Herr at [email protected].

Please join us for a coffee and doughnut social today, Sunday, November 18 following all Masses in the St. Chris cafeteria!
