The evolving landscape of perioperative medicine has dramatically increased the scope and complexity of anesthesia care. New techniques, new drugs, new evidence, quality and safety concerns all play a role in today’s practice environment. This conference will focus on areas of anesthetic care that require integrating these new aspects of medical care. Increasingly, we need to know not only whether techniques are effective, but also high quality, safe, evidence-based, and cost effective.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After participating in this educational activity, participants will be able to:

• Identify the effect of revolutionary changes in health care on anesthesia practice;

• Use new techniques, drugs and monitors;

• Incorporate these new tools into practice in the changing environment.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience includes Anesthesiologists, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and other clinicians and health care professionals working with a variety of patients and practice settings.

OPTIONAL AFTERNOON WORKSHOPS

Problem Based Learning Discussions (PBLDs)These one hour small-group, case-based, active learning sessions use specific case scenarios to address a wide selection of anesthesia topics. The format involves a faculty facilitator and up to 12 participants per session.

We have chosen six of our most popular teachers to serve as facilitators, each on a topic in their own specialty. If there is sufficient group interest, the session may include case scenarios and/or examples from your own practice, relevant to the topic area and sent in advance to the facilitator.

Price: $55.00 per session. Each session will be strictly limited to a maximum of 12 participants. Participants may register for multiple PBLD sessions. Each session is 1 hour.

Friday, November 30th, 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm Saturday, December 1st, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

• Session 1: High Risk GA Daniel Rubin, MD

• Session 4: OB Anesthesia Barbara Scavone, MD

• Session 2: Billing Tripti Kataria, MD

• Session 5: Noncardiac Surgery for Patients with Aortic Stenosis Richa Dhawan, MD

• Session 3: EMR Implementation in the Periop Setting Ori Gottlieb, MD

• Session 6: Pediatric Anesthesia Wendy Binstock, MD

Ultrasound Workshop—Saturday, December 1st, 12:30 pm - 4:30 pmOnce again, we are offering a Regional Anesthesia with Ultrasound Applications workshop led by Michael Woo, MD, University of Chicago and Francis Salinas, MD, Virginia Mason University. This hands-on workshop is open to all registered participants for an additional fee of $250.

*Lunch will be provided for all optional workshop participants.
