DEDICATION On November 11, the library dedicated its newly constructed Board Room in honor and memory of James V. Rokaitis. The following resolution (plaque) is posted for the public to remember Jim’s contributions to our community. It reads as follows:
Whereas the Prairie Trails Public Library District and the Board of
Trustees lost a valued member and forward-thinking leader on
January 20, 2012, with the death of James V. Rokaitis;
Whereas James V. Rokaitis served with distinction as a Trustee of the Prairie Trails Public Library District for 24 years – most of it as
president of the Board;
Whereas for over two decades James V. Rokaitis worked side-by-side
with six other Trustees leading the library forward in physical growth
and technology; while guiding the passage of a referendum and over-
seeing the construction of three additions to the building;
Whereas James V. Rokaitis was an enthusiastic supporter, tireless
champion and outspoken advocate for Prairie Trails Library who em-
bodied the library’s motto “Heart of the Community;
Whereas a life-long resident of Burbank, James V. Rokaitis in addition to his contributions to the library,
served his community as an Alderman, and a member of the first City Council, past president of the Lions Club and Reavis High School boards;
Whereas James V. Rokaitis’ sense of humor, kindness, energy and graciousness enriched those fortunate
enough to know and work with him;
Therefore Be It Resolved that the Board of Trustees of the Prairie Trails Public Library District recognizes
the remarkable achievements of James V. Rokaitis and acknowledges with great admiration his many con-
tributions to the library;
Be It Further Resolved that in honor of James V. Rokaitis’ extraordinary passion, inspirational legacy, and
visionary leadership, the Prairie Trails Public Library’s Board meeting room in the new addition scheduled
to open in 2015 be known henceforth as the James V. Rokaitis Board Room.
