I would like to acknowledge the work of Clare O’Sullivan and her team for drawing that all together. It was a powerful narrative as it drew together the Passion of Jesus alongside some contemporary themes of people suffering pain, and injustice.

Winter Uniform Term 2 The CRC uniform is a very smart and attractive uniform when it is worn correctly. The movement from summer to winter uniform can be problematic. Students have a two-week transition period before the wearing of the winter uniform is compulsorily required from Monday July 29. The requirements are set out in the student diary and below. The College is aware there might be some problems with supply of the winter kilt for some girls, therefore a note in the student’s diary is necessary to indicate you are awaiting delivery of the kilt. The College Blazer will be the external garment over the summer dress. Girls Blazer Compulsory-It is the required external

garment worn to and from school Winter Kilt CRC Tartan-length to knees Shirt White long sleeve shirt with CRC

monogram. The shirt must have the top button done up and tucked in

Failing to wear the uniform correctly can result in points being given. The PE uniform is only worn when the student has a timetabled PE or Drama class, or when otherwise specified by the College Leadership team. Students are only permitted to wear one plain silver or gold stud or small sleeper in the ear, no facial piercing is allowed. We look for your support in ensuring your son or daughter is wearing the College uniform correctly to and from school.

Community Road Safety Forum being held on 10th April, 2013 Your son or daughter may have recently received or is about to receive his/her learner’s permit to drive a motor vehicle. Young drivers in their first year of driving are 3 to 4 times more likely to be involved in a road fatality, than other drivers. Lack of road safety is a predominant cause of accidental death to young people, hence it is important to provide information to students and parents well before an eighteen year old gets his/her probationary driver’s licence. Last week Year 12 students had the opportunity to listen to a father speak of his pain and anguish of losing his 18 year old daughter in a road accident. We regularly hear on the news of the tragic lose of life, the horrific injuries and life changing consequences of young people involved in car accidents. The Melton City Council is hosting a community road safety forum on 10 April. I encourage students, particularly Years 9-12, and parents to attend this very worthwhile and valuable road safety forum. It is intended to influence young drivers and passengers to make better choices when becoming road users. A flyer advertising the venue, date and time of the forum is on page 5 of this newsletter. Pizza and refreshments are provided on the night together with a show bag. Robert Blackley Deputy Principal - Students Term Dates Term 2 begins on Monday, April 15. It will be Day 1 of our Timetable. We will be off to a busy start with Year 9 Sports finals, Senior AFL and Netball games and our College Athletics carnival all in the first week. Bus companies have been notified of our start of term date. Term 1 Reports and Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews Interim Reports are now available through our Parent Portal. Details on how to access this accompany this mail out. As part of the report, a recommendation on attendance on our Term 2 Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews will be included. These take place on April 23 & 24. An information sheet on how to book interviews on-line also accompanies this newsletter. Please note that Interview Recommendations are part of the report. They are listed as ‘Welcome’, ‘Recommended’ and ‘Urgent’. We urge all parents to attend Interviews if Urgent or Recommended is listed for any subject reports. Easter Break I wish all families a Holy Easter and a restful and safe break.

Stations of the Cross This week the Year 9 drama class presented the Stations of the Cross for 2013. This year’s interpretation of the Easter play was inspired by the boat people story currently playing out in Australia. Jesus was portrayed as an asylum seeker who walked amongst everyday people and who was ultimately mocked and condemned to death by a bureaucratic government. The performance style was based on Grotowski’s Poor Theatre, where the actor is central to the storytelling and basic set is transformed repeatedly to become the required locations. The Year Nines are to be commended on their solid performances across four different year levels. Their energy levels did not flag and their commitment to the task was consolidated after a dress/technical rehearsal the preceding Friday evening. Special mention must be made of the last minute replacement of Jesus, played by Dyson Miller of Year 10, who delivered a strong and line perfect interpretation of the role at very short notice. Clare O'Sullivan Performance Coordinator

Year 12 Conner Farrugia—12 Dominic

Conner started his Year 12 year with a dedicated and enthusiastic approach to his studies. He works ‘relentlessly’ in preparation for SAC’s. He works hard in all of his classes, participates when required in class discussions and asks questions when

he needs clarification. Conner’s work ethic and attitude to his studies are a model for other students to follow. He also worked extremely hard at the school swimming carnival. Brianna Cameron— 12 Bernard

Brianna has had an extremely positive start to her Year 12 year. She is hard working and conscientious in her studies but is able to maintain energy and enthusiasm for extra curricular activities. Brianna worked hard to organise and help students at the College

swimming carnival as well as competing herself. She also recently attended the SACCSS swimming carnival. Year 10 Holocaust Museum Visit On Friday 22nd March, 14 students from Year 10 went on an excursion to the Jewish Holocaust Museum to help with further understanding of the events that occurred during WWII, which is being taught in their History classes. It was an emotionally packed day with the students attending a Seminar, hearing a story from a survivor and having a guided tour through the museum. The tour guides were so impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of our students that they would be more than happy for us to visit again. Keep up the great work History students. Year 8 Medieval Day Monday 18th of March saw the Year 8 cohort enjoy a day of hands on history interaction with the expert group ‘History Up Close’. Students were able to witness history up close with being models of medieval fashion, working as a squire suiting up potential knights, participating in song and dance and playing strategic games young adolescents would have played. As part of their humanities history unit of Medieval Europe, students were able to engage in this day with all of their knowledge learnt in class and gain a hands-on approach to the mysteries of history during the medieval era. Upon observation, students looked like they were enjoying themselves with plenty of laughs and enthusiasm to be seen and heard. Hopefully next year we will have more students dressing up in medieval costumes, so current Year 7s…start preparing! Thank you Year 8s for your enthusiasm and being such great sports- the services of the executioner (Aka: Mr Gavran) was not required! Also a big thank you Year 8 Humanities teachers for once again dressing up for the occasion and being part of this fantastic day! Karina Dunne Humanities Domain Leader
