MARCH 27 ISSUE · 2014 TERM 1 · WEEK 9 t t t ccas news letter The official newsletter of Central Coast Adventist School Confidence European Trips In this issue... ‘The fruit of righteousness will be... confidence.’ Isaiah 32:17 NIV Apple launches a new television, confident that brand will sell. Tony Lockett would step up for a kick, confident he could get the ball through those posts. The opposition party is always confident they can run the country more successfully than the current government. The confidence that connects these three examples is self– confidence—confidence in your own reputation, abilities and bright ideas. Isaiah is talking about a different confidence. A confidence in God. It doesn’t take much to shake our self– confidence—a dip in sales, a missed kick, a lost election. But ‘God confidence’ is unshakeable because God is unshakeable. It’s in His hands. If the Israelites had put their confidence in Moses, they’d never have walked through the Red Sea— only God can create corridors in seas. If Daniel had placed confidence in himself, he’d have never escaped the lion’s special recipe bargain bucket—only God can shut mouths of lions. The Bible’s packed with these amazing accounts. Self–confidence has its limits, and it’s often the root of pride. But God is limitless. And not only will you see God’s will done through you, but it means we can’t boast about anything except Him (which helps on the pride front; we all struggle with it). ‘Far better to take refuge in God than trust in people.’ (Psalm 118:8 NIV) Before you start your day (or tomorrow if you’re reading this before bed), take the time to ask God to give you opportunities to display your faith, with Godly confidence that He’s with you. - word4u2day.com Monday, 31 March is the last possible day for bringing in paper work and deposits for these trips. Seasons For Growth 2014‘Sadly, grief is something that most children will experiencetosomedegreeduringtheirchildhood. In school, we see children at various developmental stagesexperienceit.Theirreactionsandquestionscan make parents feel puzzled and uncomfortable, leaving adults unsure of how to help them.Griefisexperiencedwhenalossoccurs.Thismay be the death of a pet, the end of a parent’s marriage, a big move of house or the death of a relative close to the child’s heart.’Seasons for Growth is an 8 session program run in school hours to support children in working through

their feelings.                  Dear Parents and Carers

Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. At Central Coast Adventist School we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce or related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively. We are therefore offering a very successful education program called Seasons for Growth.

This program is facilitated in small groups and is based on research that highlights the importance of social support and the need to practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The program focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and support networks.

The Seasons for Growth Program runs for eight weeks and each weekly session is 40-50 minutes. The program concludes with a 'Celebration' session. Later in the year each group will have the opportunity to meet for two further sessions to build on their earlier learning.

Seasons for Growth will commence in Week 2 of Term 2 and will be facilitated by Jane Hughes and Rebecca Stratford, who have received special training in the use of this program. If you think your son or daughter would benefit from Seasons for Growth and at least 6 months has passed since they experienced an event resulting in grief or loss, we would encourage you to talk to him/her about participating in this program. Should he/she decide to participate please fill in the tear-off section below and return to the school by Wednesday, March 26th.

An information session for parents and carers who would like their children to participate will be held on:

Friday 4th April, 2.15 – 2.45PM in the Learn Inc room.

I would strongly encourage you to attend this session to gain an insight into the value of the program.

CCAS is pleased to be able to offer this important program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those who request to be involved.

Rebecca Stratford Head of Primary

"

PLEASE RETURN THIS SECTION TO PRIMARY SCHOOL RECEPTION
