Welcome Message
Dear Colleagues,
The 29th European Congress of Psychiatry, organised by the largest international association of
psychiatrists in Europe, taking place on 10-13 April 2021 will be Virtual and will be available for
participants from all over the world online.
The theme of the congress, “Personalising and integrating mental health care in the digital era”,
reflects the current shift towards new models of care in psychiatry, characterised by the attempt
to leave behind “one size fits all” approaches and replace them with personalised diagnostic and
therapeutic models. In the digital era, assessments and treatments can be delivered by remote
specialised centres, bridging existing gaps in the access to high-quality care and reducing costs
and inequalities.
Appropriateness of prevention and treatment plans may be improved by matching plans with
individual’s neurobiological and psychosocial characteristics. An increased effectiveness and
safety of therapeutic strategies may be achieved by fully exploiting the available digital tools.
Clinical decision making can be enhanced by machine learning methods, increasingly enabling the
simultaneous processing of demographic, anamnestic and clinical characteristics, combined with
genomic, epigenomic, neuroimaging, proteomic, transcriptomic and metabolomic markers. A full
range of prompt and integrated interventions can be provided by smart wearable accessories,
such as smartphones, watches, jewellery, and patches that may multiply the opportunities for
careful assessment of mental states, symptoms and side effects of treatments.
The congress will be an opportunity to discuss advantages and challenges of new models and
tools in different settings and cultural contexts, to share knowledge and experiences among
professionals and other stakeholders, to discover new research frontiers, and to generate new
ideas, plans and collaborations.

EPA 2021
In light of the continued challenge of the covid-19 pandemic and current global travelling
restrictions, the EPA has decided to shift the format of the 29th European Congress of
Psychiatry to a fully virtual meeting that will be held on 10-13 April 2021.
A detailed sponsorship prospectus with various opportunities available for those who wish to
take part in the congress will be sent to all during this upcoming week.
Following the success of EPA 2020 Virtual, new concepts and features will be integrated into the
virtual platform. The EPA will continue dedicating its efforts to create effective communication
channels between clinicians and researchers. Virtual sessions will include live interactions and will
be available on-demand in the weeks following the event.
The EPA 2021 congress will seek accreditation for its delegates. In addition, the EPA will prolong
the life expectancy of the congress by keeping the platform open for a minimum period of three
months.
As important partners of the EPA, we wish to meet your objectives, maximise your exposure and

Industry Learning Sessions
Specific hours during which industry will be invited to host their sessions will be published
shortly. The EPA wishes to enable participants from different world continents to attend
the sessions and is currently reviewing the options that will best meet that objective.

period of three months. Requests for content retrieval should be addressed to the
