MESSAGES FROM THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

ear colleagues,On behalf of the entire organizing committee, I would like to express our warmest regards to all colleagues. It is our honor to organize the 7th International Society of Pediat-ric Oncology (SIOP) Asia Congress, which will be held on April 21-24, 2012 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A number of scientific sessions, which accommodate the clinical, path-ological, biological, and nursing aspects of various child-hood cancers, will be offered. We would like to inform you that at the same time, the International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parents Organization (ICCCPO) will conduct the 2nd ICCCPO Regional Asia Meeting. This con-gress, therefore, will be one of the best opportunities for all practitioners in the field of pediatric oncology, which include not only clinicians, but also pathologists, molecu-lar biologists, nurses, and cancer survivors, to share their experiences.We also hope that your proposed visit to Yogyakarta will be one of your unforgettable moments. In the aspect of tourism, Yogyakarta has widely been known as the sec-ond most visited province after Bali, as this province has a wide variety of world-class heritages, such as Sultan’s palace, Taman Sari water castle, and Prambanan temple. Yogyakarta is also acknowledged as the center of Java-nese culture. In addition, Borobudur temple, the biggest Buddhist temple in the world, is located in a short dis-tance, while the well-known island of Bali can be reached within an hour by air, from Yogyakarta. Finally, we are looking forward to your participation in this congress and see you in Yogyakarta.

Prambanan TemplePrambanan temple is located18kmnorth-eastofYogyakar-ta. This is the biggest HindutempleinIndonesiaandoneofthe biggest ones in South-eastAsia. This archeological siteconsists of a 47 m-high maintemple and several smallerones. This complex of templewasbuilt in 850ADbyRakaiPikatanoftheSanjayadynastyoftheMataramHindukingdom,asadedicationtoTrimurti(theexpressionofGodasBrahmatheCreator,VishnutheSustainer,andShivatheDestroyer).ThistempleiswidelyknownforthestoryofRamaandShintainitsreliefs,whichisdiffer-entfromthatinIndia,andthestatueofShivainthemaintemple.

Borobudur TempleBorobudurtempleis located40kmnorth-westofYogyakarta.Thistemplewasbuiltin800ADbytheSailendradynastyofcentralJava,

when itwas underthe influenceoftheSrivijayan Empireof Sumatera. Thisis the biggest Buddhist temple in the world, as it comprises sixsquareplatformsinthebottom,threecircularplatforms,andamaindome at the center of the uppermost circular platform. Themaindomeissurroundedby72Buddhastatues,eachofwhichisseatedin aperforated stupa.This templehasmore than2000 individualreliefs,whichdescribethestoryandthelawofBuddha.
