Principal’s Report
NAPLAN
Congratulations to Year 3 and Year 5 students on their
excellent achievements at NAPLAN this year, particularly
after remote learning! Well done to the teachers, Education
Support Staff, and parents for keeping the students’ skills up
and ready for national testing. An outstanding effort!
Lockdown Extended
At 1.00pm yesterday the Premier announced a continuation
of the period of lockdown until 70 per cent of Victorians have
had at least one dose of vaccine. This is estimated to be
around 23 September. Schools will remain in remote and
flexible learning for the remainder of Term 3. We are all very
sad by this announcement as we miss all the students. We
hope to see our students and parents back safe and well in
term 4. Please keep students connected to their teacher and
classmates via the daily check in and roll at 9.30am.
Teachers will run small group teaching sessions from
10.00am – 10.30am, and we are running an additional help
session at 11.00am for all students. Teachers are available
throughout the day via email, chat via teams and additional
video meetings when required. Each Thursday students will
participate in live specialist sessions (Italian, PE, STEM) and
will complete an art and wellbeing activity.
Principal’s Hour – every Friday 12.30pm – 1.30pm
To end this week, I have organised a fun and uplifting activity
for all students and families. We have the very talented Joel
Quinn (guitarist) performing for our students and families.
Please see the attached flyer for details on how to log into
WebEx. Please test this before the session on Friday at
12.30pm.
Education Support Staff - Appreciation Week
A massive thank you to our hard working and extremely
dedicated Education Support who go above and beyond for
every student. We are so fortunate to have Chris, Anita, Di,
Karen and Clare on staff.
Communication
Currently we send all notifications to parents via Skoolbag
and Facebook. Keith, our IT technician, is currently setting up
our parent email distribution list via GradeExpert, and we are
hoping to use this before the end of this term.
Planning Day
On Thursday 16th September (week 10) classroom teachers
will be involved in their planning day for term 4. Only the live
specialist sessions and activities will run on this day. I will be
checking in with all students at 9.30am via the Principal’s
page in Teams!
Shade Sail Application
We are currently in the process of applying for a second
shade sail grant. We have obtained two quotes as part of the
grant requirements, and are now completing the final stages
of the application. Thank you to Anna Bunbury for her
assistance.
Happy Father’s Day!
Wishing all the Dads a wonderful day for this Sunday!
R U OK? DAY
R U OK? Day is next Thursday 9th September. It is a national
day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that any day
is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” and support those
challenged with life’s hurdles. This year’s message is “Are
they really OK? Ask them today! Please check in on each
other and reach out if you need support!
As a staff, we have created a wellbeing pack for every
student. These can be collected at the school foyer on
Thursday. The wellbeing pack is a token of students efforts
during remote and flexible learning. We understand it is a
challenging time for students and we are hoping the
wellbeing pack will put a smile to students faces!
Indigenous Literacy Day! This annual event provides a
window into the richness, diversity and multilingual world of
Indigenous Australian peoples, through storytelling. If
families get time this week during remote and flexible
learning, you might like to listen to some fabulous stories

Calm Down Spaces for Kids
Everyone experiences the feeling of being overwhelmed, stressed or anxious. For children during lockdown these can oc-cur quite frequently. A calm down space where they can escape too, may assist them in relieving some of these feelings. What is a calm down space? It's exactly what it sounds like, a place to calm down. You can call it a cozy corner, safe space, anything you’d like! As long as the goal remains the same—it serves as a calming, relaxing, welcoming, and quiet space for kids to go to when they need a break.
REMINDER: This is NOT a time-out space or to be used as punishment. Don't send kids here to be isolated, it is a safe
space where kids should want to go to when BIG feelings arise. Your calm down space doesn't need to be complex, require a lot of space, or contain expensive materials—keep it simple! Cozy but cool! Make this space feel special by adding colourful pillows and blankets or set up a children's tent for privacy. Include items like:
Stuffed animal Books about feelings and emotions Colouring/drawing materials Feelings/emotions posters
Calm down spaces are easily customizable for different ages, and when it comes to activities, you know your kids best! As long as you give them activities that they can do to calm down and self-soothe, you've created a successful calm down space. Resource: SanfordFitKids
