Celebrating 90 seasons of College Football

For his career, John Kelly has done well against the Hawks averaging 135-passing yards in three all-time meetings with Mon-mouth. The senior quarterback also averages just under 50-yards rushing a game against Monmouth. Kyle Frazier looks to continue his success against SFU as the signal caller enters Saturday having never lost to SFU and averag-ing 153-yards passing in two career games against SFU. Frazier has three touchdowns, no interceptions and a 72.9-percent career-completion percentage against SFU.

Saint Francis enters Saturday with the fourth ranked scoring offense in the Northeast Conference averaging 24.2 points a contest. SFU brings in the top rated rushing attack in the NEC into the showdown at West Long Branch, as the Flash average a little over 226 yards a game on the ground. No other team in the NEC averages more than 195 on the ground. In total offense in the NEC, the Flash rank fourth averaging 347.2 yards a game. SFU must improve on third down if the Flash want to upset the Hawks. The Flash defense has the worst opponent third-down conversion rate in the NEC allowing teams to convert 48.2-percent of their third-downs. The defensive third-down conversion rate ranks 116th out of 121 teams in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Monmouth like Saint Francis was not in ac-tion last week but for a completely different reason. The Hawks were unable to play their scheduled game with Central Connecticut State after the devastation caused by Super Strom Sandy. Monmouth ranks second in the Northeast Conference in scoring offense, averaging 29.6 points per contest, while the Hawk defense ranks fifth in the NEC in scor-ing allowing 26.8 a game. The Hawks lead the NEC in pass offense with 249-yards a game through the air but rank last in the NEC in passing defense allowing 251.2-passing yards a game. The Hawks do have the best rush defense in the Northeast Conference allowing just 110.1-yards a game on the ground. Kyle Frazier leads the Monmouth offense averaging 240-yards passing a game and holding a NEC best 66.8-completion percentage.

KELLY BACK TO PASS?Starting quarterback John Kelly ranks as on of the top throwers in school history ranking in the top three all-time at SFU in attempts and completions. But in 2012, Kelly has also been making his mark in the run game. The senior signal caller has run the ball nearly as many times as he has thrown it. Entering Saturday’s meeting with Monmouth, Kelly has 165 passing attempts and 126 rush at-tempts. The senior has rushed for over 100 yards four times in 2012 including breaking the century mark in his last two games. In the passing game, Kelly has 1,030-yards with nine touchdowns but has not hit 200-yards pass-

ing in a game yet this season. The senior has excelled at the deep ball and has at least one completion of 60-yards or more in three of his last four games.

UP NEXT Saint Francis returns home for its final game of the season Nov. 17 as the Flash welcome Sacred Heart. The game will also serve as se-nior day for the team; the contest is schedule for a noon start.

Harbridge goes for 197-yards against the Hawks

LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 5, 2011) – The Saint Francis football fell to Monmouth in the team’s homecoming game, 48-45, at DeGol Field. The Red Flash (2-8, 1-6) fell to the Hawks (2-8, 1-6) despite another tremendous rushing effort from Kyle Harbridge, who set a new single season rushing record for the Flash with a 197-yard rushing perfor-mance. Saint Francis held a fourth quarter lead but it slipped away. Harbridge scored the first of the three touchdowns on the day on the opening drive of the game. Harbridge capped an 11-play 66-yard drive with a five-yard scoring run to give SFU the early advantage. Mon-mouth’s Julian Hayes closed the scoring gap with a 3-yard touchdown run of his own with 5:26 left in the quarter. SFU blocked Monmouth’s extra point attempt to keep SFU ahead, 7-6. Josh Thiel made it a 10-6 Red Flash advantage with a school record 47-yard field goal with 1:25 remaining in the first frame. The Hawks shook lose in the second quarter putting together three unanswered touchdown drive to give Monmouth a 27-10 advantage. Craig Peterson highlighted his big day with two touchdown passes during the stretch, the Monmouth quarterback finished the day with 316-yards passing on 20-of-29 passing. The Red Flash cut into the lead just before the half with a 10-play 58-yard drive capped by a two-yard touchdown run by Harbridge. Harbridge made it a 27-24 game with a 78-yard touchdown run, the run was the fourth Harbridge scamper of 75-yards or more this season. Marcus Pollard pushed the Monmouth advantage back to 10 with a 52-yard punt return to give Monmouth a 34-24 advantage. Keion Wade cut the Hawks lead to three with a 10-yard rush with 5:13 left in the third quarter. Hayes made it a 41-31 game with a 26-yard touch-down run at the 2:37 mark of the third. In the final play of the third, John Kelly rushed for a score from 16-yards to make it a 41-38 game headlining into the fourth quarter. Mike Dennis set up the go ahead drive for the Red Flash with his sec-ond interception in as many weeks. A.J. Alexander snuck behind the Hawks defense and Kelly found him to give SFU a 45-41 advantage with 12:44 left in regulation. Hayes capped off an 11-play 91-yard drive with a seven-yard scored to give the Hawks a lead they would not relinquish. Saint Francis tried to rally with a late drive but it drive was derailed by a tipped ball interception by Kelly.
