With Nigeria’s importance as one of the significant countries in the Global Migration Discourse, it has been actively involved in the different and varied levels of the Migration Governance processes. Nigeria and the German Government have expressed their resolve to collaborate towards promoting Regular Migration as well as supporting the Voluntary Return of Nigerian Irregular Migrants. To that effect, a German delegation led by the Minister of State and Federal Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, Annette Widmann- Mauz and the German Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E Birgitt Ory were at the NCFRMI Headquarters on the 5 th of February, 2020. The Honorable Federal Commissioner, of the Commissioner, Sen. Basheer Garba Mohammed mentioned that the aspiring migrants need to be equipped with the necessary skills, to learn and understand the processes of Regular Migration. The Commission in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates Embassy organized an 8-week Empowerment initiative on tailoring for Internally Displaced Widows in Abuja. The Honorable Federal Commissioner stated that the Commission will continue to collaborate

with its domestic and international partners to ensure that Nigeria’s IDPs, especially vulnerable groups like widows are empowered with the necessary skills to succeed. 65 IDP widows successfully graduated on Friday, 31st January at the Malaysian Garden IDP Camp.

STUDY VISIT BY GHANA’S INTER-MINISTERIAL WORKING GROUP ON MIGRATION

As African countries grapple with the issue of irregular migration, Nigeria’s work on the issue has caught the attention of other nations. The Honorable Federal Commissioner of the NCFRMI received Ghana’s Inter-Ministerial Working Group on Migration, who came on a study visit to the Commission to observe the Commission’s operations and learn about its experiences ahead of the establishment of Ghana’s National Migration Commission.

GRADUATION OF IDP WIDOWS IN TAILORING

On the 31st of January, 2020 the Commission graduated 65 IDP widows after a successful 8-week empowerment initiative on tailoring, organized in collaboration with the Embassy of UAE. Both widows in the picture with the Commissioner designed and sewed their outfits themselves.
