3-BIN SERVICE
INTRODUCING YOUR ORGANICS BIN
HOW TO USE YOUR ORGANICS BINDecide how you will collect and transport food scraps between the kitchen and the organics bin.
All cooked and raw food scraps can be composted.
Wrap them in newspaper, store them in a dedicated food waste container, use compostable bags or simply place them straight into the lime-green lid Organics bin.
ORGANICS BINCollected Weekly
The Shire of Collie is committed to keeping waste out of landfill and reducing greenhouse gases by composting organic waste.
Your food waste and garden vegetation will be converted into compost, saving money and the environment.
This is recycling at its best.
TIPSDEmpty the kitchen bin regularly to
prevent it from smelling
DKeep the organics bin in the shade
DTry layering your food scraps with dry material eg: leaves, paper
DWrap kitchen scraps in newspaper
DPut your kitchen scraps in compostable bags (available from Council)
DFreeze food scraps, like seafood, and put them straight into the organics bin the evening before collection
DHose out your bin on the grass or garden after it is emptied
DExcess cardboard and paper can go in Organics bin
COMPOSTABLE BAGSCouncil has supplied your first roll of compostable bags with your bin.
Additional rolls of compostable bags are available free from the Shire of
Collie office, library and Waste Transfer Station (limits apply).
Biodegradable and degradable bags are not suitable. Use compostable bags marked with this logo AS4736
DID YOU KNOW?Organic waste in landfill creates
methane (a harmful greenhouse gas)
which is 25 times more damaging than
CO2. When composted, organic waste
