Designing a high accuracy,3D auto stereoscopic eye tracking display, using a common LCD monitorDept of ECE, MBCET1Presented By :Sajin Thomas SabuRoll No : 10 408 016Guided By :S NandanAssistant Professor Dept. of ECEMBCETDesigning a high accuracy,3D auto stereoscopic eye tracking display, using a common LCD monitorDept. of ECE, MBCET1The 3D displays have been classified into 4 groupsStereoscopic displaysAuto stereoscopic displaysVolumetric displaysHolographic displays

Design and building of a low cost and practical auto stereoscopic display is explained here.

Dept of ECE, MBCET2INTRODUCTIONDoes not need to wear special glasses.Uses eye tracking to give a large degree of freedom to viewer movementSpatial light modulation(SLM) is usedStereo image pair is screened on the usual LCD simultaneously but in different columns of pixels.Dept of ECE, MBCET3CONTD...3D USING PARALLAX BARRIER2 images are merged to a single frameParallax barrier is used It separate the vision of the right and the leftOne image is seen by only one eyeThis will make the seen appear as 3D Dept of ECE, MBCET4

LCD DisplayParallax barrierCameraEye tracking softwareSuitable image projecting technologyDept of ECE, MBCET5DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE SYSTEMUsers face is 70cm in front of the displayDistance between eyes is 6cmThe slot to pixel ratio is 1:5Slot diameter is 0.245mm and distance between the slots is 1.27mmFor making at least 1 pixel of parallax for user's eyes, it is necessary to make a gap between the LCD surface and the cloven mask.Dept of ECE, MBCET6ASSUMPTIONSA sheet of transparent Plexiglas with the thickness of 3mm is usedUsing photo-plot method mask is plotted on a special film

Dept of ECE, MBCET7MAKING THE PARALLAX BARRIER

It consists ofAutomated initial face detection systemSubsequent face tracking systemEye detecting methodThe Face Tracking application performs real time face tracking in a webcam. After detecting face position, eyes are detected in order to find out the proper offset for sub-pixels.Dept of ECE, MBCET8FACE TRACKING AND EYE DETECTION SYSTEMA frame including both left and right images is captured from the sourceThe position of the user's pupils will be calculatedThe two images are combined into one frame Every column of pixels from each image will be side-by-side with the corresponding column from the other image

Dept of ECE, MBCET9CREATING A 3D IMAGE FROM 2 IMAGESThe face detection algorithm outputs an angle value between 90 and -90By every 1.6 steps that the user moves in a direction the system slides the mixed image one sub-pixel to the opposing directionAfter displacing three steps, the system moves the image two pixels along the user's movement directionAfter a displacement of six sub-pixels, the system resets the image position to its initial value.Dept of ECE, MBCET10APPLYING THE OFFSET ALGORITHM

The 3D display have decreased intensityThe resolution decreases to 1/5th of the originalDifficult to display large volume objects, which is possible with volumetric display

Dept of ECE, MBCET12DISADVANTAGESBuilding of a low cost and practical stereoscopic display that does not need to wear special glasses has been presentedPosition tracking gives a large degree of freedom to viewers movementIncreasing the parallax accuracy using fade in and fade out technique in sub pixels could be a future work along this projectDept of ECE, MBCET13CONCLUSION[1].
