Sums up to 1000
Your kids will have fun practicing their addition skills with these activities. There are four different activities and they
can be used in numerous ways.
Activity #1 – Puzzle Piece Match-Up -Cut out the pieces and glue them on another sheet.
-Use the puzzle pieces in a math station and use the recording sheet.
-Draw lines to match the equations with the correct sums.
Activity #2 – Spin An Addition Problem -Using a paperclip, spin a number from each spinner. Record
them and find the sum.
Activity #3 – Pick Two Game -Cut out cards and place them face down. Pick two cards and
find the sum. Use the recording sheet to hold your students accountable. Not all possible sums will be found on the game
board.
Activity #4 – Almost 1000! -You will find a directions sheet, recording sheet
and game board. -I did not indicate how many spaces the winner from each
round should move on the board. Your class can decide that together. They may want to roll a die, pick a game card or use
the highest of their eight digits. -You may want to make the recording sheet two-sided in case
the students need more space. -I would make numerous sets of the game cards for each
group and use cardstock so the numbers do not show through.

Almost 1000! Direction Sheet
1. Gather your materials: - recording sheet for each player - dice or playing cards - game board and game markers 2. Each player gets 8 cards or rolls the die 8
times. 3. Record your numbers on your sheet. 4. Each player builds two 3-digit numbers that
have a sum closest to 1000. Record your work on the recording sheet.
5. The player that is closest moves their marker on the game board. Continue playing until the first player reaches the finish line.
6. After each turn, roll the die again. If you are using game cards, place them to the side and reshuffle once all the cards are used.
