PRESENTATION OF THE NEW RELEASE 2.0.5

MTD SA, Route de Muraz 16, CH 3960 Sierre,Switzerland [email protected] / www.m-td.com

3D Simulator is simulation software developed by extrusion experts for dies makers and extruders.

3DS enables the user to perform fast three-dimensional simulations of the extrusion process enabling one to compute stress and deformation, temperature and fluid flow.

Costly and time-consuming die trials on presses can be replaced by virtual prototyping and testing with computers. Numerical trials allow selecting optimal CAD concepts. This leads to savings on correction costs and longer lifetime of critical parts.

Efficient computer simulations with optimized algorithms enable the user to visualize and understand extrusion material flow, temperature, pressure, mechanical and thermal loads, as well as to design robust die sets by accurately predicting deflections and stresses due to these loads. It enables the user to minimize the die design to prototyping time and reduce the associated costs and overall product development cycle time.

The general presentation is still available on the Slideshare :

INTRODUCTION

MTD SA, Route de Muraz 16, CH 3960 Sierre,Switzerland [email protected] / www.m-td.com

The new release introduces new preparation and mesh interfaces that provides to the user a faster and easier approach in using 3DS.

Preparation process has been completely automatized

Mesh process has been simplified, the user just has to focus on mesh density definition.

The analysis phase has been completely automatized, views for report are generated automatically, the user can focus on detailed analysis through a simple « click ».

Time spent to prepare the simulation has been strictly reduced.

The user just has to focus on « productive » phase only

Integration with CAD software is facilitated

WHAT’S NEW IN 2.0

Symmetric simulation is now available :

Use half model cutting in X or Y plane

It is now possible to continue a mechanical analysis after Aluminium flow analysis:

In the olde version if you made an aluminium flow analysis and you want to proceed to a mechanical analysis, it was necessary to restart completely the preparation phase

Now it is possible to continue the preparation phase with only the die

Preparation time is strickly reduced

CAD PREPARATION

CAD model

Geometrical model is designed and generated as before

Geometrical and process parameter are written in a csv file. This file can be generated through a simple Excel or automatically generated by CAD software and/or PDM system using specific development

SIMULATION DATA PREPARATION Old version New version

Instead of proceeding step by step, the data preparation phase is done in background. The user just need to select the parameters file (csv file) and geometrical files necessary to the simulation

SIMULATION CALCULATION

The simulation interface has been simplified. Boundary conditions are directly read from parameters file.

It is not necessary now to proceed to postprocessing step between each simulation
