Dear Friends: This week we welcome some intriguing thoughts from Pope Saint John Paul II:
When I think of the Eucharist, and look at my life as a priest, as a Bishop and as the Successor of Peter, I naturally recall the many times and places in which I was able to celebrate it. I remember the parish church of Niegowić, where I had my first pastoral assignment, the collegiate church of Saint Florian in Krakow, Wawel Cathedral, Saint Peter's Basilica and so many basilicas and churches in Rome and throughout the world. I have been able to celebrate Holy Mass in chapels built along mountain paths, on lakeshores and seacoasts; I have celebrated it on altars built in stadiums and in city squares... This varied scenario of celebrations of the Eucharist has given me a powerful experience of its universal and, so to speak, cosmic character. Yes, cosmic! Because even when it is celebrated on the humble altar of a country church, the Eucharist is always in some way celebrated on the altar of the world. It unites heaven and earth. It embraces and permeates all creation. The Son of God became man in order to restore all creation, in one supreme act of praise, to the One who made it from nothing. He, the Eternal High Priest who by the blood of his Cross entered the eternal sanctuary, thus gives back to the Creator and Father all creation redeemed. He does so through the priestly ministry of the Church, to the glory of the Most Holy Trinity. Truly this is the mysterium fidei which is accomplished in the Eucharist: the world which came forth from the hands of God the Creator now returns to him redeemed by Christ.---from the Encyclical Letter ECCLESIA DE EUCHARISTIA No. 8

P.S. I am very grateful for your prayers for my brother Stephen’s peaceful rest and for the consolation and peace of the family. When I was with him during his days in the hospital we found peace each day as we prayed the Mass by his bedside. Although we could not know if Stephen could hear us we knew that the Eucharistic Lord was helping him.

Queridos amigos: Esta semana recibimos algunos pensamientos fascinantes del Papa San Juan Pablo II: Cuando pienso en la Eucaristía, mirando mi vida de sacerdote, de Obispo y de Sucesor de Pedro, me resulta espontáneo recordar tantos momentos y lugares en los que he tenido la gracia de celebrarla. Recuerdo la iglesia parroquial de Niegowic donde desempeñé mi primer encargo pastoral, la colegiata de San Florián en Cracovia, la catedral del Wawel, la basílica de San Pedro y muchas basílicas e iglesias de Roma y del mundo entero. He podido celebrar la Santa Misa en capillas situadas en senderos de montaña, a orillas de los lagos, en las riberas del mar; la he celebrado sobre altares construidos en estadios, en las plazas de las ciudades... Estos escenarios tan variados de mis celebraciones eucarísticas me hacen experimentar intensamente su carácter universal y, por así decir, cósmico.¡Sí, cósmico! Porque también cuando se celebra sobre el pequeño altar de una iglesia en el campo, la Eucaristía se celebra, en cierto sentido, sobre el altar del mundo. Ella une el cielo y la tierra. Abarca e impregna toda la creación. El Hijo de Dios se ha hecho hombre, para reconducir todo lo creado, en un supremo acto de alabanza, a Aquél que lo hizo de la nada. De este modo, Él, el sumo y eterno Sacerdote, entrando en el santuario eterno mediante la sangre de su Cruz, devuelve al Creador y Padre toda la creación redimida. Lo hace a través del ministerio sacerdotal de la Iglesia y para gloria de la Santísima Trinidad. P.S. Estoy muy agradecido por sus oraciones por el descanso en paz de mi hermano Stephen y por su consuelo y paz para la familia. Cuando estuve con él durante su estadía en el hospital, pudimos encontrar paz todos los días mientras celebrábamos Misa junto a su cama. Aunque no sabíamos si Stephen podía oírnos, teníamos la seguridad de que el Señor de la Eucaristía lo estaba ayudando.

Jesus, the perfect steward, gave thanks, just before He gave Himself to us completely for our salvation. He offers us the chance to drink from His cup. In the Eucharist, we meet Christ personally and, if we listen to Him, we know what drink-
ing from His cup means our own sacrifice – giving up some of our time, talent and treasure to do His work on earth.

June 8 & 9 The ordination of men to the priesthood is a beautiful and inspiring event for our entire diocese, and all are welcome to witness it. The Mass of Ordination to the Priesthood for Deacons Michael Folmar, Nicholas Schierer and Christopher Tipton is Saturday June 9 at 11:00am at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More. There is also a Holy Hour Vigil with Bishop Burbidge and the seminarians on Friday June 8 at 7:00pm at the Cathedral, followed by a light reception. Come and pray for our future priests!

Honor of Saint Anthony This year, as a parish family, we are invoking the intercession of our Parish Patron, St. Anthony, for the needs of our parish, our school, and each parishioner by praying the traditional nine week Novena in his honor. Please join us for the brief prayers after each Mass (7 AM, 12 PM and 7 PM) on every Tuesday from April 17 through June 12, the day before his feast day. The novena prayers will be available for you to keep and use. Please take part in these prayers with faith and confidence in our great Patron!
Holy Land Carvings— June 9 & 10 On the weekend of June 9th &10th, 2018, there will be a display of beautiful olivewood handmade carvings from the Holy Land. These Carvings are made by the Christians of Bethlehem who use them as their source of income. These brothers and sisters of ours are enduring hardships at this moment because of the volatile situation in their home country. Christians in the Holy Land used to be more than 37% of the population. There is less than 1% now because of the situation. As Christians of faith, it is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in The Holy Land. YOU can support them by purchasing some of these beautiful carvings after Mass.

Dear St. Anthony Family,
Our fifth and sixth graders participated in their first diocesan Battle of the Books under the direction of our school librarian and resource teacher Mrs. McNerney. Our team spent a year reading 15 books and preparing for a competition with 23
other Catholic schools from around the diocese. Our students had a very challenging morning at the event answering detailed questions about the 15 different books. The students worked together as a team and enjoyed their experience.

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions… Come put your skills to use at WorkCamp! Work-Camp is an annual week-long service opportunity for the youth of our Diocese to serve those in need. We are desperately in need of volunteers who are willing to commit some of their time and talents to help teach our youth and improve the lives of fellow Virginians. Help is needed on 160 projects, from Monday–Thursday, June 25–28, 2018. WorkCamp 2018 will be held in Spotsylvania County, VA, from June 23–29. A meeting for WorkCamp Contractors will be held on June 6th.

June 30 The Barrio Fiesta Fundraiser organized by Jesus My Friend will help and support our Parish for any extra expenses. Proceeds from this fundraising will all go to the church. The event will take place on June 30, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm at our Parish gym (Margaret Hofbauer Hall). Tickets will be sold after Mass and the donation $25 per ticket, which will be sold after the 4:30pm Mass on Saturdays, and 8:30am, 11:00am, and 5:30pm Masses on Sunday. Please support this cause.

El Campamento de Trabajo se llevara a cabo en el condado de Spotsylvania, Virginia, del 23 al 29 de junio. Estamos con mucha necesidad de voluntarios que estén dispuestos a dedicar parte de su tiempo y talentos para ayudar a enseñar a nuestros jóvenes y mejorar las vidas de sus compañeros de Virginia.
