There are at least fi*e types of

traffic light systems a. !rogressi*elights are set up so that traffic mo*ing at the correct speed

will "e a"le to keep mo*ing as the lights change in sequence.". Traffic acti*atedlights are designed to change according to traffic loads.-o traffic, no green light, many *ehicles, longer green lights. The key toefficient use of these lights is to know what and how each intersection is setup. The use of computer assisted traffic lights are also traffic acti*ated. They

try to anticipate the traffic coming, not react to traffic that has ;ust stopped.c. Timedlights are the least e5pensi*e and therefore used in many smallercommunities. They are set for so many seconds green for each direction oftraffic.d. !edestrianacti*ated lights are used at cross walks to aid their crossing of"usy streets.e. %ailroadgrade crossing lights are used to warn dri*ers of trains in closepro5imity to the crossing.
