nternational Fashion Academy, better known

as IFA Paris, is a multi-disciplinary fashion

school that oers undergraduate and graduate

programs in design, technique and business on

ts campuses in Paris and Shanghai. IFA Paris

To succeed in today’s fashion world, fashion designers need

more than the ability to competently sketch garments on a sheet

of paper.

To achieve this goal, IFA has created an innovative 3-yearcurriculum that directly addresses the needs of fashion

companies. It mixes fashion design, pattern making & draping,

CAD-CAM and marketing to develop student creativity, skill and

ability to work as part of an international team.

n the rst year, IFA students build the foundation upon which

their future success will be laid. Students are introduced to the

fundamentals of design, pattern making & draping and

computer-aided design while also delving into fashion history

and culture.

Second year students apply the skills they gained in the rst year,earning how to design and create a variety of garments and

accessories. They explore dierent design concepts in greater

depth and begin exploring fashion marketing to help them gain

a full understanding of the forces at play in garment creation.

n the nal year of the IFA Paris Bachelor’s Program, each student

chooses one eld in which to specialize: design, pattern making

& draping, or marketing. Students also prepare for the

graduation fashion show, in which representatives of the fashion

media and fashion companies gather to see the best work of

FA’s graduates.

Core Courses

Fashion DesignFashion design courses at IFA provide a solid theoretical

framework for creating exceptional design and hone

student creativity. Students are exposed to the

fundamentals of design and a variety of dierent aesthetics

through case studies of successful brands and designers.

IFA’s instructors also direct their students to design with anawareness of crucial market factors and trends. This

marriage of practicality and inspiration creates designers

who maximize their creativity and excel in the real world.

Pattern Making and DrapingWithout an in-depth knowledge of how clothes are

constructed, a future in fashion is just a mirage. At IFA Paris,

students learn both pattern making and draping. Mastering

both two-dimensional approaches to garment construction

is the cornerstone of a career in the technical area of fashion,

and IFA’s instructors excel at sharing their expertise in the

French tradition of draping.

Fashion Marketing The business side of fashion is not neglected at IFA Paris.

Fashion marketing courses make students aware of the

market realities that exert a tremendous eect on how

fashion is created while also providing them with the tools to

make an accurate analysis of the international market

environment, in markets both mature and fast developing.

Through the prism of fashion, students will learn about

promotion and advertising, consumer needs, and retail

operations.

Computer DesignMuch of modern fashion design work is done in front of a

monitor, rather than over a piece of paper, making computer

skills a necessity. In the rst stage of IFA’s computer design

course, students are introduced to the basics of using two

standard pieces of industry software, Adobe Photoshop and

Illustrator. Once students grasp their fundamentals, they are

driven to constantly improve their speed and accuracy, so

that they can quickly produce work that best displays their

design visions.

Lectra SystemUse of technology is another critical skill in the fashion eld.

Instructors guide students through the entire process of

using Lectra system using demonstrations that build a

strong understanding of the hardware and software

involved. Best practices are emphasized and students are

able to become procient in using shortcuts and the toolbar

to move clothes from the drawing paper to production.

Textile TechnologyIFA’s courses in textile technology build a critical

understanding of fabrics and how they are best used.

Through a range of organized activities, including visits tomuseums, fabric markets and exhibitions, students gain an

intimate familiarity with the characteristics and textures of

dierent fabrics, how they are produced and how they are

used to help designs realize their potential.

Paris Campus

IFA Paris was created in 1997 but has a pattern making and

draping history of over a century. IFA’s Bachelor’s in Fashion

Design and Technology was created with the insight that

fashion education in France needed to internationalize in

order to remain competitive in the fast moving global

fashion industry. IFA’s Paris Campus recently relocated to

the historical garment district in the 10th arrondissement,home to many thriving fashion businesses. It is the ideal

jumping-o-point for exploring fashion’s leading city.

Exposure to Paris’ rich fashion history is a critical formative

experience for aspiring designers, and studying there

provides an enduring connection to fashion that benets

IFA graduates in the job market.



Shanghai Campus

In partnership with the Shanghai University of

Engineering Sciences, IFA Paris established its

campus in Shanghai in 2002 as the rst

Sino-French joint venture in fashion

education to be approved by the Chinese

government. Today, it has become the leading

fashion design school in China and the only

one that proves its dedication to fashion byusing the best professional instructors from

France.

IFA Paris’s Shanghai campus oers a unique

opportunity to international students who

decide to spend a year or the entire three-year

program in China. The Shanghai Campus

employs the same quality curriculum that is

oered in Paris, and all courses are conducted

in English. International students in Shanghai

fashion & luxury market, develop their local

students in nding their dream jobs. The center is

an essential liaison between the fashion and

luxury industries and our students during their

studies, upon graduation and throughout their

Admission Requirements

Applicants must be high school graduates or above with a strong

nterest in fashion.

Courses are conducted in English & French in Paris and English in

Shanghai, so it is preferable to embark on the program withappropriate language skills. Students lacking prociency will be

equired to take additional language classes.

Credential

Upon completion of the IFA Paris 3-year program, students

will receive an internationally recognized Bachelor’s in

Fashion Design and Technology issued by IFA Paris.
