(ii) Themes

I. Faculty Development Programmes:1. Two days faculty development programme was conducted on 12.06.2017 and

13.06.2017. All faculty members participated. 2. Training Programme on “How to Use Smart Class Room” was conducted on

29.06.2017. Twenty six faculty members participated.3. Training Programme on “Techniques and Tactics to succeed in NET / SET”

was conducted on 26.09.2017 for the Computer Science and Information Technology departments’ staff and their PG students attended the program.

4. An orientation on “Effective Teaching” was conducted on 06.12.2017. 75 faculty members participated.

5. Faculty Development Programme on “How to Tap Funds for Research” was conducted on 25.01.2018 to all the faculty members.

6. Spoken English classes were conducted regularly for non teaching staff members.

7. Student Development Programme:A two days orientation programme was organised to the new entrants of 2017 on 23.06.2017 and 24.06.2017 on the topics “Know Your College” and “Empowering Youth through Communication Skills”.

2.14 Significant Activities and contributions made by IQAC

1. Strengthening the quality of academics by conducting department wise quality circle programmes.

2. Monitoring and evaluating the performance of the teaching, learning activities by collecting feed backs from various stake holders.

3. Encouraging the teachers to make use of the seeding money given by the management to attend seminars and workshops.

4. Training the teachers and PG students to qualify themselves in NET / SET.5. Motivating the staff and students to complete Ph.D., 6. Organising extension activities and social awareness programmes. 7. Performing academic audit.8. Reforms in the periodical evaluation of the students’ performance.9. Documentation of various programmes and activities of the college.

2.15 Plan of Action by IQAC/Outcome

The 6th hour was allocated for remedial coaching. The course teachers identified the weak students. Based on that they gave additional care.

2. Encouraging the staff members to attend more FDP’s.

6 members attended the FDP’s organised by various institutions.

Department of English organised FDP on Effective Techniques on Teaching Grammar to their faculty members.

IQAC organised 2 FDP’s to all the faculty members.

3. Organising seminars to create awareness about the funding resources for research.

Dr. V. Manimekalai, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Botany, Sri Parasakthi College for Women gave a special lecture on the topic “How to Tap Funds for Research”

4. Organising more seminars / workshops and guest lectures for students.

International seminar by the department of Tamil, National seminar by the departments of Commerce and Computer Science and workshop by the department of English and Mathematics were organised. Over all 38 guest lectures were organised.

5. Organising awareness programmes to nearby school students in computer fundamentals and spoken English.

As an extension activity, the school students of our adopted village Poovanthi and the students of St. Mary’s Matriculation School, Thiruppuvanam were brought to our campus and given training on MS Word, Power Point and Word Art. The department of English organised communicative English classes to the school students of Poovanthi in our language lab.

6. Organising spoken English classes to the non teaching staff

IQAC decided to conduct spoken English classes for non teaching staff members and it was carried out successfully.

7. Organising many health awareness programmes

Health awareness programmes about Cancer, Diabetic, Dengue and Anaemia were conducted. A general health check up in collaboration with Vadamalayan hospital, Madurai was conducted for our staff and students.

8. Encouraging the staff members to apply for funds from other agencies

2 proposals were sent to the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology.

Department of Tamil sent 7 proposals to Semmozhi Tamizhaivu Niruvanam for conducting workshops and seminars.

9. Strengthening the Placement & Career Guidance Cell

The Placement & Career Guidance Cell is actively working. The cell arranged many training programmes in association with Employment Office, Sivagangai. Coaching classes were conducted for TNPSC and Banking service examinations. On Campus placement drive was organised. Final year students were guided to attend off campus drives.

Totally 77 students placed in various organisations in this academic year.

38 students were placed in iSON BPO Company at Chennai as Customer service representative.

2 students were placed in Aurolab, Karuppayurani, Madurai as Graduate Trainee.

2 students were placed in Future Generali as Team Leader.

2 students were placed in Vega Intellisoft, Chennai as Customer Support Officer.

1 student was placed in IDBI Insurance Ltd, Coimbatore as Team Leader.

1 student was placed in Hindhuja Global Solutions as Customer Support Officer.

7 students were placed in Simho HR Services PVT LTD, Chennai as Operator.

2 students were placed in Kalyani Associates (P) Ltd, Madurai as Clerical Assistant.

20 students were placed in Rising star mobile India Pvt. Ltd, Chennai as Operator.

2 students were placed in TCS as Graduate Trainee.

10. Reforms in Periodical Test Question papers for periodical tests were generated by software which is designed by Ms. K. Sudharani, Head of the Department of Computer Science. Feasible questions are to be uploaded in the prescribed format. Options are available to give weight age to university questions and to check the validation of equal distribution of

questions within the units. The questions are generated by IQAC.

11. Paperless work Work is under progress to automate the profile of the staff and students.

12. Updation of Computer Labs Computer labs were updated by the replacement of 26 old systems. Additional lap tops were given to the departments. Colour printer was used to generate the certificates.

13. Encourage the students to participate in open sports competition

Our physical directress trained our students in a very systematic manner. As a result of it, 6 students selected as university players and participated in many inter university competitions of UGC south zone.

14. Quality Enhancement of the Staff Members

Appearing for SET / NET was made compulsory for the staff members who have not cleared those exams. The management also encouraging them by reimbursing their examination fee.

Three members cleared their NET and 2 faculty members qualified in SET.

Workshops and guest lectures were arranged for the PG departments related to SET / NET.

OD was given to the staff members who are pursuing Ph.D., for their research work.

This year 3 staff members registered for Ph.D., programme.

2 staff members completed their viva voce examination.

15. Stimulating the research activities Seed money was given for the staff members for attending and presenting the papers in the seminar.

Staff members were given the page charges in case of publishing their work in peer reviewed journals.

2.6 Innovative processes adopted by the institution in Teaching and Learning:

Learners’ centric teaching methods like case study method, group discussion, guest lectures, power point presentations, quiz tests, assignments, peer learning, practical sessions, problem solving and model making are adopted.

Tutorial study materials and question banks in each subject is available in the departments and library.

Slow learners are found out based on their periodical test evaluation and remedial coaching is carried out.

Students are encouraged to do self study programmes and swayam prabha certificate courses.

Departments use the ‘swayam praba’ channels for enhance the knowledge of the students.

Smart class rooms are available for every department to encourage the ICT enabled teaching.

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes:

Contribution to Teaching & Learning processes:

As a mean of encouraging and monitoring the faculty, to use ICT tools in teaching, IQAC regularises and keeps the records of the usage of smart class rooms.

Ward system is adopted to find out the difficulties of the students in learning process.

Triggering the faculty to attend seminar/conference/workshop inside and outside the institution.

To keep the quality of the question paper of the periodical test, the question paper is generated automatically using the randomized generator method from all possible questions.

Organising quality circle programmes periodically. Based on the analysis of the student’s feedback and the result analysis, relevant

actions are taken in concerned with the Head of the Departments.

Monitoring the Teaching & Learning processes:

Analysis of students feedback. Staff lesson plan diary. Recording of staff participation in Research and extracurricular activities.

Evaluation of Teaching & Learning processes:

Organising quality circles to evaluate the in depth knowledge in the subject. Evaluating the performance of internal assessments. Analyzing students’ performance in theory and practical examinations through

3.26 Major Activities during the year in the sphere of extension activities and Institutional Social Responsibility

100 trees were planted in the campus by YRC volunteers. Exhibition to school children at Manamadurai and Melur were conducted. Awareness programme by NSS on “Dengue, Cancer and Women Health” in both

inside the college and surrounding villages. Students acting as scribe for blind students at Sundararajanpatti, Alagarkoil. Cleaning the temple in adopted village Poovanthi and Thiruppuvanam by NSS

volunteers. Students went to “Poongudil” – The home for aged people and helped them. Enhancing the Digital India programme by giving demo to village women of

adopted village Poovanthi about ATM and online shopping. Coaching classes were conducted by our students to the school students of our

adopted village Poovanthi. Awareness programmes on Spoken English and Computer Fundamentals were

given to nearby school students. In collaboration with general hospital, sivagangai a blood donation camp was

conducted. 72 students donated their blood. Students performed extension activities in the topics like Challenges of Learning

English as a Second Language, Development in Society through Bakthi Literature, A Study on Women Issues, Tech Lobby, Applications of Trignometry in various courses, E- Banking Services and Interactive Learning.

Consumer Club organised the special lectures on “Consumer Awareness Act and Consumer Behaviour and Consumer Protection Act”.

ECO Club organised a special lecture on “How to make an organic garden?” “Revival of Rivers” programme was organized by Isha Yoga centre, Madurai.

All our students took pledge on “Revival of rivers”.

Student Support and Progression

5.1 Contribution of IQAC in enhancing awareness about Student Support Services The IQAC of the college established many Cells, Clubs and Committees to enhance awareness about student support services.

New entrants are given orientation on various student support services like scholarship, Library and Internet facility on the fresher’s day.

Anti Ragging Committee and students welfare committee are functioning effectively.

The class teacher and the tutors (ward system) identifies the students personal and academic problems and efforts are taken to rectify it.

Grievance redressal cell, analyses the grievances reported by the students and parents immediate steps are taken over it.

Vibrant Placement and Career Guidance Cell in collobrate with employment office Sivagangai organises coaching classes for TNPSC, Banking and other competitive examinations.Job fair is conducted in our college and students are encouraged to attend the jobfair outside the college premises also.

Student Council members and student members of all committee and cells provide information to their peers.

Institution has a MoU with ‘Women Entrepreneurs’ Forum an organisation of the Tamilnadu chamber of commerce, Madurai. 1. Daily prayer consists of prayer song, thought for the day, news in Tamil and English, vocabulary and Thirukural. These help the students to mould their morality and update their general knowledge and current affairs.

2. Important days like Vivekananda Memorial Day, Gandhi Jeyanthi, International Yoga Day, Anti Leprosy Day are celebrated. On those days, staff addressed the students and say few words about the brief history and importance of those days. 3. Traditional festival pongal is celebrated to inculcate the cultures of Tamilnadu. Some traditional competitions like Rangoli (Kolam) and Uriaddi are conducted to create awareness about our tradition.

Programmes” (Extension Activities), the department of computer science organised session to the nearby school children and gave demo and practice in operating computers. They were given training in MS word, Painting and Word Arts.

In collaboration with the university “Kani Tamil Peravai” was created. The department of computer science and the department of Tamil together organised a workshop on ‘Mobile App’ and all the Tamil major students were given opportunities to create e-mail and they were taught to browse and use the net sources.

The department of commerce conducted a survey among the people of Poovanthi and found out 80% of the people are not aware of smart phones, e- Banking, operations, ATMs and online marketing. So, with the help of the local panjayat people, the department organised classes for the women folk and using power point presentation and live demo practice was given.

The nearby school children were brought to our campus and they were given training in spoken English in our language lab.
