Component drive easier to program
for machine buildersThe entry-level component drive
ACS50 has been replaced by anew model, the ACS55. Thissupports DriveConfig, a newPC tool for machinebuilders, enabling volumeconfiguration without theneed to power up thedrives. Parameters are setand software updated from aPC. The tool is targeted at users
who need to configure highvolumes of drives, such as serialOEMs. ACS55 still retains the simple DIP switchinterface of the ACS50 for users who prefer a simplerprogramming solution. See page 8.
High performance drive with higher output and
smaller dimensionsThe power range of thehigh performance servodrive ACSM1 has been
increased to 110 kW. Inaddition, the drive is nowavailable with a cold platemount that can be bolted toa suitable surface on the driven machine, using thisas a heat sink and reducing the overall dimensions ofthe drive. See pages 14-16.
Enhanced DTC for highperformance drive
The ACSM1 high performancemachinery drive uses a furtherenhanced version of ABBs highly accurate motorcontrol platform DTC, offering faster torque andspeed response for this servo performance drive. Theenhancement also allows a fixed switching frequencyto be selected, reducing the audible noise. Ideal forthe lift industry. See pages 14-16.
Pump control software enhanced
The Intelligent Pump Control software has beenfurther improved. The software enables easymanagement of a bank of pumps, ensuring that the
duty pump, the standby pump and the backup pumpget the same number of running hours over the longterm. Automatic level control, flow calculation andde-ragging functions are also built in. See page 23.
New control option for component drive
The ACS150 component drive has been fitted with a10V reference input, enabling the use of an externalpotentiometer. See page 9.
New dedicated EMC filters
Dedicated EMC filters have been developed for theACS150 component drives and the ACS350 generalmachinery drives, easy to fit to the side or the backof the drive. See pages 9-13.
Dedicated low harmonics drives
ABBs range of wall-mounted low harmonics drives
has been complemented with cabinet units and drivemodule kits. See page 23.
RoHS complianceABB standard drives (ACS550) andABB drives for HVAC (ACH550) are now compliantwith RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances). TheACS55, ACS150 and ACS350 ranges were alreadycompliant, giving users a range of RoHS compliantdrives from 0.18 to 355 kW to choose from.See pages 17-21.
Improved temperature management
gives higher outputThe power range of the general machinery drive
AC350 has been extended to 22 kW with a newframe size, R4, while the wall mounted versions ofthe standard drive ACS550 and the industrial drive
ACS800 have been extended to 132 kW. In the caseof the ACS550 and ACS800, the overall dimensions ofthe drives stay the same. This has been madepossible through improvements in semiconductortechnology and in the thermal design of the heatsink.See pages 11-13; 17-25.
DriveMonitor
Hardware module inserted intothe drive, which collects andanalyses drive data. DriveMonitorwatches the drive online andgenerates application specific alarms. Early diagnosis,avoids costly repairs. Long term statistics can be usedto optimise the process performance.

The ABB component drive meets the requirements of
OEMs, installation companies and panel builders. It is
a component that is bought, together with other
components, from a logistical distributor. The aim is for
the component drive to be so small and simple, that
users of contactors and softstarters are encouraged to
move to the benefits of variable speed control. There
are two variants in the component drive family.

NEW for 2008
The ACS50 has been superseded by the ACS55.The drive has been upgraded to allow a small
amount of additional programming via a dedicated
PC interface called DriveConfig. This retains the size
and compactness of the drive, whilst increasing its
capability. The DIP and rotary switches are retained for
simplicity and the ACS55 is 100% backwards compatible
with the ACS50.

The ABB component drive meets the requirements of
OEMs, installation companies and panel builders. It is
a component that is bought, together with other
components, from a logistical distributor. Component
drives are designed to encourage users of contactors
and softstarters to move to the benefits of variable speed.
The ACS150 extends the capability of the ACS55, by
adding an extended range of power frames and
programmability. The ACS150 can solve more difficult
tasks. To retain the simplicity of a component drive, the
ACS150 does not have a serial communications interface
or extended options.

ABB industrial drives are highly flexible AC drives

ACS800 can be loaded with software to suit your
application, such as crane, centrifuge or winch, to name
just a few. The new Intelligent Pump Control (IPC)
software eliminates the need for an external PLC and can
help save energy, reduce downtime and prevent pumpjamming and pipeline blocking. It features six pump
control functions - multi-pump control, level control,
preventive maintenance, flow monitoring, sleep boost
and pump priority control.

in size and cost for panel installation. ABB expects to
launch this new variant of the ACS800 in the second
quarter of 2008.

Control panel
The control panel features a
full-text multilingual display.
Dedicated keys allow fast
access to actual signals,
parameters, assistant
functions and drive
information. The panel can
be used for parameter
copying and for configuring
adaptive programs, working
as a PLC inside the drive.Local motor control is
also possible.
Panel mounting kits
Kits are available that allow mounting on the cabinet
door, or in a holder inside the cabinet. The panel can
also simply be screwed to the cabinet door.

The I/O can be extended by adding additional digital and
analogue modules. The ACS800 supports the following
