Maximizing Your Leadership StyleAs you return home, keep a few things in mind:

• Not everyone at home will warmly welcome your new or improved approach to leadership. Keep in mind that the American style of leadership that you may have adopted in the classroom might feel strange or awkward in your home country.

• Don’t be afraid to be yourself, to try new approaches to leadership and to share what you learned while in the U.S., but…

Page 19: 3.1 leadership styles 2

• Keep an open mind and listen to feedback from your colleagues, and

• Remember that there is no one “right” way to lead.

Just as you were flexible in adapting to U.S. culture, so will you need to be flexible in adapting your leadership style to your home culture!
