Cross promotion is a tactic used in traditional and digital marketing to expose brands to

new audiences, but this doesn’t mean that’s all it’s limited to. Have you ever thought about

cross promoting yourself? Cross promoting your social media profiles can be a great way

to expand your following.

Building a social media audience takes time and strategy, and sometimes one of your

networks takes off before the other ones do. As frustrating as that can be, you can use the

strength of your leading social networks to give your weaker ones a little push – here’s

where cross promoting will be handy. Cross promoting can not only fill in content gaps,

but can help bring awareness to your current following about what social media networks

your brand participates in.

A few ways you can cross promote your social media channels with each other:

If you have a strong following on one network- create posts that highlight channels

where you may need a boost. You can even integrate cross promoting into your

content strategy (another solution to the content struggle). Periodically remind fans of

your other channels. This can be a simple post like “Did you know we’re on

Instagram?”

Create a contest or giveaway based on the network you’d like to boost your

following on, or integrate it as a way to get extra entries. Tools like Rafflecopter can

a giveaway. Promote this contest on all channels, even if it’s not the one the contest or

giveaway is on.

Create Facebook tabs pointing to other social channels.

Cross promote channel specific content. Post an image, specific deal, or other

resource on one network that you don’t post on anywhere else. Now you tell you’re

audience you have something special for followers of the specific channel and link

them to the post, or go along the lines of “In case you missed it”.

Growing a social media following can be a pain staking process, and occasionally using

what you already have is the best strategy for moving forward.
