COUGAR SPIRIT
2013-2014
Brookstone Spirit Book 2013-2014 13
Dear Brookstone community:
Here at Brookstone we recognize that there are many individuals and groups who help educate our students. It
would be impossible to be successful both on and off the field without the dedication of a hard-working coaching staff, a facilities department committed to our school, a Brookstone Parents Association selflessly giving for our students, and a Board of Trustees dedicated to providing a first-class campus. There is so much behind the game that is being played. Without the help of parents, students, and the faculty/staff we would not be able to live out our mission of educating the whole child.
We value athletics as a component of our whole-child philosophy. Academic achievement, we believe, is only one aspect of nurturing a healthy child. The importance of extracurricular activities in the athletics and the arts helps raise well-rounded students. From our Servant Leadership Program to the Honor Council, from the One Act play to student government, our Brookstone students constantly shine and succeed in a multitude of roles. We endeavor to support this growth in order to live out our mission.
Good luck to all the teams as we go forth modeling sportsmanship and healthy competition!
Go Cougars! Brian KennerlyHeadmaster
The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play togeth-er, the club won’t be worth a dime.

The Brookstone athletic department strives to embody the characteristics on the school’s crest - Loyalty, Courage, and Wisdom: loyalty to our teammates and coaches behind the effort and commitment each individual makes to sacrifice their own personal performance for the greater good of the team; courage to face difficult situations through practices and competitions that will require perseverance and fortitude; and the wisdom gained from carrying the lessons we have learned through our athletic competitions into our lives outside and beyond Brookstone.
The commitment of Brookstone athletes to the multitude of sports opportunities helps create a spirit of togetherness that permeates throughout the campus during the year and is unique to the Brookstone community. That same commitment by the students to participate in more than one sport in their athletic careers allows us to pursue excellence in a number of areas of which would otherwise be impossible for a school our size.
The coaches, parents, faculty, and staff are all a huge part of the successenjoyed through athletic competition at Brooktone, and 2013-14 is going to be an exciting year for everyone.

At Brookstone School, we are constantly challenging and supporting our students not only in the academic arena but also outside the classroom through our wide variety of extracurricular activities. To see if a skill has truly been learned, it must be tested. One place to test such mission-based attributes as integrity, responsibility, and respect is through our athletic contests. Whether it be a loss, tie, or win, students grow from every contest.
Athletics play a large part in developing character and leadership in the young men and young women who participate. I look forward to another year watching the Brookstone Cougars test themselves on the fields, the mats, and the courts. Go Cougars! Manning WeirUpper School Principal
We at Brookstone School encourage students to stretch and to grow academically and personally. The opportunity to participate in athletics is one of many benefits of a Brookstone experience where students are challenged both in the classroom and on the playing field. Our coaches support Brookstone School’s mission of developing life-long learners who demonstrate mutual respect, integrity, honor, and service to others.
We are proud of our athletes and their coaches. Also, we are blessed in the middle school to have such supportive fans and parents.
Enjoy the game!
