The Future has arrived. It commences Now…To the graduates, congratulations on this day. Your diligence andperseverance have brought you to this milestone, and you are to becommended. Savor every second of it, for it is truly unique.

Some of you are sad to be leaving, probably surprised that your timehere has gone by so quickly. Others are, no doubt, thrilled to be mov-ing on. Regardless of how you feel now, your emotional attachmentand the footprints you leave behind will only deepen as the years goby, and you will find yourselves drawn back time and time again.

You will undoubtedly continue to grow, to understand life, choices, and people, the pressure of here and now, and the demands that yourfuture will have for you. There will be close calls, obstacles, and falls. But, in the end, we have no doubt that you will make it through, forwe have fostered in you an attitude of self-reliance, determinationand compassion for others and you have impressed us with how youhave grown.

Nelson Mandela once said that “…our deepest fear is not that we areinadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond meas-ures. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We askourselves: Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?Actually, who are you not to be?”

You ask yourselves, “What now? What next?” Whatever the answermay be, when you move on, you will find a new series of challengesin need of new solutions; when you are challenged, don’t back down. When you are unsure, don’t be shy to ask. When you are sure, don’thold back and always remember that what each of you has to con-tribute is worthwhile. Act fearlessly and confront courageously theobstacles that you will face, for you once said that you want to besomething; you have big dreams, big plans, big ideas, and big ambi-tions. This is it! The future has arrived. It commences now.

Wherever you go and whatever you do in these next several years, beassured that you are more than qualified to succeed, and we believein you. You have now become independent thinkers and lifelonglearners. You embody all that we strive to achieve in our mission topursue academic excellence.

You are our accomplishments, our rewards and our pride.

Al Mawakeb School... a special home for 14 years...Every year, we bid farewell to a special group of students whom we callour children and who simply call Al Mawakeb their second home...sometimes their first…Together, we forged a 14-year relationshipwhereby we witnessed the transformation of sweet and innocentkindergarteners into confident adolescents who now stand tall, worthyof praise. From day one, they took their first steps full of promise, andfrom that day, we knew that they would shine and make us proud.

You are about to embark on your journey of self-discovery. You will search for answers, and you will come upon some wonderfulrevelations. You will ask yourselves many questions that you oftenfound yourself asking in all your school subjects.

Who? Take time to find out who you are and be your own person. Strive to be honest, respectful, and happy. When you are at peace with yourself, everything else will fall into place.

What? What is your passion? Discover what it is that burns inside and keeps you going; thennurture it.

When? Do not ignore it. It will keep you balanced. Some things are best done now. Rememberto make time to rest and enjoy the miracle of each new day. With practice, you will learn thepleasure of doing something now and the unique delight of waiting and planning for others.

Where? You will have your answer if you keep your home in your heart, and put your heartinto wherever you decide to call home. Be an active member of whatever community you willfind yourself in, and you will discover its special charm.

Why? It is every child’s favorite question and the main ingredient to growing up. Let the“why” in life challenge you and whisper to you when you lose sight of who you are or whereyou want to be.

How? This is your biggest challenge. But you've come so far in the past few years that we are sureyou will succeed. Remember to believe in yourself. But most of all, remember that with all newbeginnings, the greatest discoveries come after pondering over questions.

so many skilled orators...

When Ms. Rita broke the news that I had made the cut, I was overwhelmed withjoy, pride, and immense confusion. In fact, I even asked her to check andrecheck if it really was me who was chosen. I remember how agonizing it was; Irecall stuttering, and eating a few syllables here and there as I delivered my firstspeech. Yet, here I am today hoping that I’m not doing the same. Confidence, honor, and vigilance overcome me as I try to prove my full potential. I now realize that this class speech is not as easy as it was made out to be, but Iwould rather learn to fail than fail to learn. Diala Al Qadi - Gr12A

Being in this school for nearly more than a decade now, I watched the graduationceremonies every year. I observed as the speakers stood proudly representing theirschool with honor. My face would light up and I’d wish to have a chance to standup there one day. You can then imagine how ecstatic I was when I found out thatI am one step closer to achieving my goal. I believe that if I were to be chosen asthe speaker for the graduating class of 2011, I would not let my friends and teach-ers down because this will be a chance to represent my peers and praise my teach-ers for all the hard work and wonderful moments they shared with all of us.Dina Al-Ashkar - Gr12F

Once Mrs. Rola called us into her office, I thought that I had done somethingextremely wrong. I was petrified when I had no reason to be. When the announcement was made, I have to admit that I was initially surprisedby the number of students that auditioned. After the initial shock, I was filledwith excitement knowing I had a possibility of actually representing my class ongraduation day. I then thought of my parents who have raised me well and howproud they’ll be of the fact that their daughter has a chance to be in a specialrole in one of the biggest events of her life and theirs. It would be a great honorto represent my country and prove that a young Emirati woman has the poten-tial to stand out in her country.Maryam Al Mansoori - Gr12A

This year, I am leaving everything behind. It’s a fact that a person can die morethan once once his days are spent and every time he leaves. I auditioned thisyear for the graduation speech. Entering the hall, I really wasn’t expecting any-thing. Expect the least but work for the best was what I told myself. I left thehall disappointed in myself and in my work. My confidence betrayed me, and Igave up the dream of making it. Fortunately, when I did not believe in myself,Al Mawakeb School did. My school saw in me what I couldn’t see, and nowafter being informed that I made it to the second round, I am determined to saywhat you couldn’t say. I will stand in front of thousands of people and speak onyour behalf. I choose to be your voice; I choose to be part of you. We will grad-uate and we will leave, but through memories of Al Mawakeb School we shall neverdie. If I was ever asked about what would Al Mawakeb told us, with a smile, I’ll reply and say, “Good LuckSeniors and may your dreams come true.”Mohammed Keserwan - Gr12E

Vides. Mohammad Kamali - Gr12E
