Ordinary Time

October 30, 2016

“We are a diverse faith-community that strives to conform ourselves into the image of

Christ in and through the power of the Holy Spirit, and nourished by The Word,

Sacraments and Tradition to give glory to God and to be a light unto the nations.”

I'd like to share with you a story from the book, "The Next 500 Stories" by Fr. Frank Mihalic, SVD.

"Jesus and the Man in the Hole" A man from the interior of China, who had attended church at a Christian mission for a while, was not particularly inspired. Then one morning he came to the missionary in a hap-py mood saying, "I dreamed last night and now I understand." "I seemed to have fallen into a deep pit, where I lay helpless and despairing. A priest of Confucius leaned over the edge and said, 'Let me give you some advice, my friend; if you get out of your trouble here, never get into it again." "Then a priest of Buddha came and stretched out his arm over the edge, saying, 'If you can manage to climb up far enough for me to reach you, I'll help you out.” "Then Christ came. He climbed down into the pit, let me stand on his shoulders and then I hopped out."

"The Son of Man has come to seek and save the lost." (Lk 19:10) Zacchaeus was another "man in the hole." Everybody despised him for being a tax collec-tor. Yet Jesus took the risk of telling him in public that he would like to visit him in his home. In spite of the danger of being heavily criticized, the Lord jumped into that same deep hole where Zacchaeus found himself. And because of that sacrifice, Jesus helped Zacchaeus get out of the hole. Jesus' mercy and forgiveness changed the life of that "son of Abraham."

"Satan says: Look at your sin. God says: Look at My Son." Today is called "Priesthood Sunday." Together, let us thank God for our gift of priests. And we thank you for all the love, prayers, and support you show them. Big thanks, too, to Flor and Martha and to all our Catechists and students from the Reli-gious Education who showed up and served during our festival! We appreciate your pres-ence and all your sacrifice. We would also like to thank our Indonesian Community for all of their support during the festival! Dios dice: Mire a Mi Hijo".
