Each of these cards requires students to follow instructions to expand and improve a simple sentence by adding and/or changing words. Students will not only learn to make more interesting and elaborate sentences, but will also be reinforcing parts of speech skills. Three challenge cards are also included to extend the activity and provide differentiation. Student answer sheets are included as well as a sample answer keys for the cards alone and for the cards in conjunction with Challenge Card 1 (adding a coordinating a conjunction and an independent clause to form a compound sentence). Please keep in mind that these are suggested answers only. Your students’ answers will vary as this is a somewhat open-ended activity. These cards will look best in color, but will also print out fine in grayscale. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. Laminate and use them again and again. Alternatively, you could print on cardstock. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and put them all on a ring.

You also can find Super Sentences for grades 1-2 and for grades 2-5 in my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
