DESIGN cultural mediator

How to boost and substantiate through collaborative design processes, the bicycle ecosystem heritage and add value to the territory in Aveiro region?

DESIGNEcosystembicycle TERRITORY

BOOST THROUGH ADD VALUE

THE QUESTION IS....

1 2 3

PREMISE

The heritage associated to the bicycle ecosystem in the Aveiro region is under-leveraged, with difficulties in articulating the set of agents and implied values.

The design as a cultural mediator, can significantly contribute to the development of this ecosystem, through its ability to work in the complexity of implicit information in collaborative processes, commu-nicating effectively through meta-phors.

The ressignification of bicycle ecosystem assets in Aveiro, con-tributes to the enhancement of its territory.

“When people from abroad visit Denmark, they are often very surprised by our bicycle culture. How come

you cycle so much? they ask. The short answer is: WE START EARLY.”

Cycling to kindergarten -The official website of Denmark

Identities are processes in constant change, contemplating habitus, it is considered that the new development of a new sense of belonging to the Aveiro region through the use of bicycles involves INTRODUCING BICYCLE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD.

CONCEPTION OF A THEORIC MODEL OF KEY PROCESSES TO PROMOTE THE (RE)INTEGRATION OF BICYCLES IN THE HABITUS OF THE COMMUNITY, AS A PREFERENCIAL MEANS OF TRANSPORT IN THE AVEIRO REGION SINCE EARLY SCHOOL EDUCATION.
