This day sailor is true to the original blueprints by Sidney Herreshoff on file at the Hart Nautical Museum at MIT, Silver Heels was the forerunner of the Fishers Island 23 Class. With sq. ft. of sail area, Silver Heels class is of the 22 square meter genre. Vessel walkthrough: cabin arrangement with deep open cockpit with grate, tiller steering which lifts. Bench seats in cockpit. Sparten Marine outboard motor bracket is usable from either side of cockpit. Construction details: smooth carvel plank design, cedar planking, bronze fastened , steam bent oak frames on center, marine ply decking, bulkheads and cabin roof. Decks and roof are under painted canvas. All bronze deck hardware pieces are manufactured to original 1931 Herreshoff blueprints. Laminated deck beams. Sitka spruce varnished spars; mainmast is keel stepped. Stainless steel standing rigging to bronze turnbuckles to stainless steel chain plates. Bronze keel bolts. 1,500 lbs. lead keel.
