COCKPIT LIGHTS - SYSTEM PRESENTATION
GENERAL
The cockpit lighting system enables the crew to easilysee all details, inscriptions and indications on theequipment whatever the level of darkness.The cockpit lighting system comprises:
- dome lights,- console and floor lighting,- center instrument and standby compass lighting,- reading lights,- instrument and panel lighting,- annunciator light test,- outlet plugs.
DOME LIGHTS
Two dome lights provide shadowless general cockpitlighting.Each dome light has four halogen long life lamps.
NOTE: In electrical emergency configuration, the domelight of the F/O side remains available, providedthe dome light control is not set to off.
CONSOLE AND FLOOR LIGHTING
Briefcase stowage, side console and floor lighting isprovided at the Captain and First Officer stations.Three lights are used for each console lighting andfor each briefcase lighting. Four lights, fitted atthe base of Capt and F/O seats, are used for floorlighting.
CENTER INSTRUMENT AND STANDBY COMPASS LIGHTING
The flood lighting of Captain, First Officer and centermain instrument panels is ensured by four lightslocated under the glareshield.A flood light located on the overhead panel is usedto illuminate the instruments and panels on thepedestal.
NOTE: In electrical emergency configuration, thelighting of the Captain and left hand centerzones remains available. The pedestal floodlight swivels towards the rear of the pedestal.
The standby compass is provided with integral lighting.

READING LIGHTS
The Captain and the First Officer reading lights arefitted on the upright of the cockpit side windows.Supplementary reading lights are located on theoverhead panel.The Captain and First Officer reading lights andsupplementary reading lights illuminate the slidingtables, the lateral map tables and the ceiling, ifnecessary. The supplementary reading lights swivel.
INSTRUMENT AND PANEL INTEGRAL LIGHTING
All the instruments installed in the cockpit otherthan the cathode ray tubes are integrally lit. Thelights, illumating the instruments, are equipped witha dimming control.This integral lighting consists of miniature lampssupplied by AC power from lighting controllers.There are 3 independent controllers to supply integrallighting of:
- the overhead panel,- the instrument panels, consoles and the centerpedestal,
- glareshield and Flight Control Unit (FCU).
ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT TEST
The annunciator lights mounted on the panels andinstruments in the cockpit are sun readable lights.The integrity of all annunciator lights can be testedand their intensity can be dimmed.

GENERAL
All system controls are located on four differentpanels.They are located on :
- the overhead panel,- the glareshield,- the main instrument panel,- the center pedestal.
READING LIGHTS
The Captain and First Officer reading lights as wellas the supplementary reading lights illuminate thesliding tables and the lateral map tables.Each Captain and First Officer reading light controlbox is equipped with an On/Off pushbutton and arheostat for brightness control.
OVERHEAD PANEL
Several light switches and light control knobs arelocated on the overhead panel:
- one overhead integral lighting knob controlsthe brightness of the integral lighting of theoverhead panel,
- one standby compass switch controls thelighting of the standby compass and thelighting of the seat alignment device,
- one dome switch serves to supply and to selectthe brightness of the two dome lights,
- one annunciator light selector serves totest all annunciator lights and to selecttheir brightness:* TEST: all annunciator lights come on. Allliquid cristal displays (LCDs) indicate"eight",*BRT: full intensity,*DIM: the annunciator light power supplyvoltage is reduced.

Two sliding potentiometers are located under theglareshield:
- the left one allows glareshield integrallighting adjustment,
- the right one allows adjustment of theflight control unit (FCU) displaybrightness.

CONSOLE AND FLOOR LIGHTS
The CONSOLE/FLOOR selector controls the side consolelight, briefcase and floor area lighting.They control the brightness of the corresponding sideconsole, briefcase and floor area light.When the selector is set to:
- BRT: all lamps are supplied in parallel (Fullintensity),
- DIM: the lamps are supplied in series(reduced intensity).

CENTER PEDESTAL
Several light control knobs are located on the centerpedestal:
- FLOOD LIGHT MAIN PANEL knob allows thebrightness of the main panel flood lighting tobe adjusted,
- INTEGRAL LIGHT MAIN PANEL AND PEDESTAL knoballows the brightness of the cockpit instrumentpanel integral lighting to be adjusted,
- FLOOD LIGHTING PEDESTAL knob allows thebrightness of the center pedestal floodlighting to be adjusted.

GENERAL
The cabin light system provides illumination of thecabin and entrances,lavatories, galleys and attendantwork areas.The system provides illumination of lavatory lightedsigns. There are call lights to indicate the locationfrom which a passenger call is initiated. Individualreading lights are installed.
CABIN LIGHTING
The cabin lighting consists of four strips offluorescent lamps.In each cabin zone, the four strips are divided intotwo pairs for control purposes (inboard pair = CEILINGlights and outboard pair = WINDOW lights). Each stripconsists of many fluorescent lamps. Each fluorescentlamp is installed in a lampholder with an integralballast unit.
ENTRANCE AREA LIGHTING
The entry areas are illuminated by fluorescent lampsinstalled in ceilling panels.Each fluorescent lamp is installed in a lampholderwith an integral ballast unit.
LAVATORY LIGHTING
Each lavatory lighting consists of a fluorescent lamp.A fluorescent lamp and an integral ballast unit areinstalled in each lavatory, adjacent to the mirror.
PASSENGER READING LIGHTS
The reading lights are installed in the PassengerService Units (PSUs) fitted above the passenger seats.The Passenger Service Unit fitted must agree with thenumber of seats in a row.
LAVATORY LIGHTED SIGNS
The lavatory signs indicate the position of thelavatories in the cabin and whether they are occupiedor not.A lavatory occupied sign is installed near the FWDlavatory and near the two rear lavatories.
ATTENDANT WORK LIGHTS
The cabin attendant work lights consist of highintensity lights installed in an overhead panel abovethe attendant seats.

GENERAL
The Cabin Lights Controls control the lighting of theCabin, Entry Areas, Lavatories, Cabin Attendant workand Passenger Reading lights.The Cabin Lights Controls are located on the FORWARDATTENDANT PANEL(FAP), part of the CABININTERCOMMUNICATION DATA SYSTEM(CIDS).The number of pusbuttons and their position on theForward Attendant Panel (FAP) depend on the airline’schoice.
MAIN ON/MAIN OFF PUSHBUTTONS
When the MAIN ON pushbutton is pressed, the FAP frontface illuminates, the ENTRY and CABIN BRIGHT(BRT) andWDO and CLG integral lights come on green and the CABINand ENTRY AREAS Lighting come on at FULL BRIGHTNESS:
NOTE: At CIDS power-up, the FAP front face illuminatesand the Cabin and Entry Areas automatically comeon at FULL BRIGHTNESS, with the associatedcontrols illuminated.
When the MAIN OFF pushbutton is pressed, the FAP frontface, the Cabin and Entry Areas lighting are switchedoff.The MAIN OFF pushbutton also allows the LAVatoryLighting and the Cabin ATTendant and Passenger READingLights to be switched off.
ENTRY PUSHBUTTONS
The ENTRY Areas Lighting (FWD/AFT) is controlled bythe BRIGHT (BRT), DIM1 and DIM2 pushbuttons.When the BRT, DIM1 or DIM2 pushbutton is pressed, theintegral light comes on green and the associated ENTRYArea comes on at FULL (100%), 50% or 10% brightness.Pressing the BRT, DIM1 or DIM2 pushbutton a secondtime, switches off the associated integral light andthe corresponding ENTRY Area Lighting.
NOTES: - At CIDS power-up, the ENTRY Areas come on atFULL BRIGHTNESS (BRT) with the associatedintegral light on.- When the Engines are running and the CockpitDoor is open, the FWD LEFT ENTRY Area Lightingautomatically switches to DIM2 brightness.- With the MAIN OFF pushbutton previouslyselected, the ENTRY Areas can be directlyswitched on by selecting the associated BRT,DIM1 or DIM2 pushbuttons, without firstpressing the MAIN ON pushbutton.

WINDOW and CEILING PUSHBUTTONS
The WINDOW(WDO) and CEILING(CLG) Lighting iscontrolled by the BRIGHT(BRT), DIM1 or DIM2pushbuttons.When the BRT, DIM1 or DIM2 pushbutton is pressed, thededicated integral light and the integral light of theWINDOW(WDO) and CEILING(CLG) pushbuttons come on greenand the associated WINDOW and CEILING Lighting isswitched on at FULL(100%), 50% or 10% brightness.Pressing the BRT, DIM1 or DIM2 pushbutton a secondtime, switches off the associated WINDOW and CEILINGLighting.The integral lights of the WINDOW, CEILING andassociated pushbutton go off.

At Power-Up or when the MAIN ON pushbutton is pressed,the LAVATORIES are not illuminated.The LAVatory pushbutton allows the LAVATORY Lightingto be controlled: When the LAVatory pushbutton ispressed on, the integral light comes on green and theLighting of all the Lavatories comes on at 50%brightness, with the LAVATORY DOOR open or closed.If the LAVATORY DOOR is locked, the LAVATORY Lightingcomes on at FULL brightness (100%).When the LAVatory pushbutton is pressed a second time,the integral light and the Lighting of all theLAVATORIES are switched off, with the LAVATORY DOORopen, closed or locked.
NOTES: - When the MAIN OFF pushbutton is pressed, theLAVATORIES Lighting is switched off.- With the MAIN OFF pushbutton previouslyselected, you cannot directly switch on theLAVATORIES Lighting by pressing the LAVpushbutton: The MAIN ON or associated CABIN orENTRY AREA pushbuttons must be pressed first.

GENERAL
The cabin lights are controlled through the CIDS whichincludes a Forward Attendant Panel, two directors (oneactive and one in standby) and DEUs. Some DEUs are usedfor the light system, they are called type "A" DEUs.The Forward Attendant Panel controls the cabin lights.Signals from the Forward Attendant Panel are processedby the directors. The directors transmit these signalsto each Decoder Encoder Unit.FWD ATTND PNL = Forward Attendant PanelCIDS = Cabin Intercommunication Data SystemDEU = Decoder/Encoder Unit
CABIN GENERAL LIGHTS
The related Decoder/Encoder units control the cabinfluorescent lamps according to the selection on theForward Attendant Panel.The FWD ATTND PNL controls the DEUs to give: fullintensity, 50% intensity or 10% intensity for theircorresponding window and/or ceiling lights.
ENTRY LIGHTS
The related Decoder/Encoder units control the entryfluorescent lamps according to the Forward AttendantPanel selection.The FWD ATTND PNL controls, via the CIDS directors,the DEUs in order to give full, 50% or 10% intensity.
NOTE: If the engines are running and the cockpit door isopen, the CIDS directors signal the DEU of the leftforward entry light to set the intensity to 10%.
PASSENGER READING LIGHTS
The Forward Attendant Panel controls the activationof the passenger reading lights.The related DEU provides DC control power for individualswitching.The passenger reading lights can be tested, via theDEUs, using the Programming and Test Panel.
ATTENDANT WORK LIGHTS
The Forward Attendant Panel controls the activationof the attendant work lights.Each power unit is connected to a DEU of the CIDSdirectors for light test activation.The reading lights can be tested, via the DEUs, usingthe Programming and Test Panel.

The test of the reading lights includes the test ofthe Attendant work lights, the decoration lights(option) and the related reading light power unit (eachpower unit can drive three separate lights).Before activation of the test, the pushbuttons POWERATTN and POWER READ on the FWD ATTND PNL have to bepressed to energize the reading/work light system. Ifnot, a SWITCH ON POWER message will be displayed onthe PTP.The test also detects any bulb failures by checkingchanges in the current and signaling the failure beforethe bulb actually burns out.

WHEEL WELL LIGHT SYSTEM
The wheel well light system illuminates the main wheelwell and the hydraulic compartment.
- Four dome lights, one in each main wheel wellcompartment and one in each hydrauliccompartment (LH and RH).
- A 28VDC outlet provided in the nose wheel formaintenance purposes.
- Another 28VDC outlet provided in the hydrauliccompartment, adjacent to the control switch.
When the control switch is set to ON, all dome lightscome on.

CARGO COMPARTMENT LIGHT SYSTEM
Each cargo compartment is illuminated by fluorescentlamps and each cargo loading area by a light.The fluorescent lamps are installed in the ceiling oncrossbeams of the forward and aft cargocompartments.These ceiling lights are controlled bytwo switches located close to the doors.Each loading area light is controlled by a switch,located close to the cargo door. The loading area lightis bracket mounted and the light direction isadjustable.

AVIONICS COMPARTMENT LIGHT SYSTEM
Dome lights provide illumination of the avionicscompartment. AC and DC outlets are distributedthroughout the compartment.The dome lights come on in AUTO mode when thecorresponding access door is opened. In MANUAL modethey are controlled by a pushbutton in the cockpit.There are six dome lights supplied with 28VDC, five28VDC outlets and three 115VAC outlets.In AUTO mode:
- The LH LAT, LH AFT and RH AFT dome lights comeon when the LH AFT or RH AFT access door isopen.
- The RH LAT, LH FWD and RH FWD dome lights comeon when the RH FWD or RH LAT access door isopen.
When AVIONICS Compt LT pushbutton is set to ON, alldome lights come on.

EXTERIOR LIGHTS SYSTEM PRESENTATION
GENERAL
The Exterior Lighting System provides :- Illumination of the runway and taxiway,- Illumination of the wing leading edges andengine air intakes,
- Indication of the aircraft position in orderto reduce collision risk in flight and onground.
All the EXTERIOR LIGHTS are controlled by toggleswitches located on the EXTERIOR LIGHTS (EXT LT) panel,located on the overhead panel.
TAXI and TAKE-OFF LIGHTS
TAXI and TAKE-OFF Lights provide illumination of thetaxiway and the runway.The TAXI and TAKE-OFF lights are installed on the NoseLanding Gear, in a fixed position.They are controlled by the three position NOSEselector :
- T.O : Taxi and Take-Off lights are on.- TAXI : Taxi light is on.- OFF : All lights are off.
The TAXI and TAKE-OFF lights automatically go off whenthe Nose Landing Gear is retracted.
RUNWAY TURN-OFF LIGHTS
The RUNWAY TURN-OFF lights provide illumination of thelateral areas of the runway.Two RUNWAY TURN-OFF lights are installed on the NoseLanding Gear.The RUNWAY TURN-OFF lights are controlled by the RWYTURN-OFF switch :
- ON : Both lights are on, only if the NoseLanding Gear is downlocked.
- OFF : Both lights are off.
WING and ENGINE SCAN LIGHTS
The WING and ENGINE SCAN lights illuminate the WingLeading Edges and the Engine Air Intakes.The WING and ENGINE SCAN lights are installed on eachside of the fuselage.In flight, they enable the Crew to visually detect ICEon the ENGINE AIR INTAKES and WING LEADING EDGES.The WING and ENGINE SCAN lights are controlled by theWING switch.

NAVIGATION LIGHTS
The NAVIGATION lights give a visual indication of theposition of the aircraft and its direction of flight.The NAVIGATION lights system consists of :
- a RED colored light, installed in the Left-handwing-tip leading edge.
- a GREEN colored light, installed in theright-hand wing-tip leading edge.
- a WHITE colored light, installed on theAuxiliary Power Unit (APU) tail cone, at theextreme aft of the A/C.
The NAVIGATION lights are controlled by the NAV switch.
LANDING LIGHTS
The LANDING lights provide illumination of the runwaywhen the A/C lands at night.Two LANDING lights are installed: One on the underside of each wing.Each LANDING lights is controlled by a LAND switchThe LANDING lights can be extended at all A/C speeds.
ANTI-COLLISION/BEACON LIGHTS
Two red flashing ANTI-COLLISION/BEACON lights areinstalled: One on the lower and one on the upperfuselage, at the aircraft center line.They are controlled by the BEACON switch.Three STROBE Lights are installed: Two at each wingtip, on the leading edges and one on the TAIL cone.The STROBE Lights are synchronized lights that operatealternately with the ANTI-COLLISION/BEACON lights.The STROBE Lights are controlled by the STROBE switch.
LOGO LIGHTS
Two LOGO Lights are installed in the horizontalstabilizers in order to lit up the Airline Logo.The Airline Logo is lit up when on the overhead panelthe EXT LT/NAV & LOGO switch is set to 1 or 2 position.The LOGO Lights are controlled together with theNAVIGATION Lights.The LOGO Lights are optional.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEM - PRESENTATION
GENERAL
In case of failure of the Main Lighting System orduring Emergency conditions, the purpose of theEmergency Lighting System is to provide theillumination of:
- the Cabin and Exit Areas,- the EXIT location and EXIT Marking Signs ateach of the Passenger/Crew doors and at theEmergency Exit doors,
- the Floor Proximity Emergency Escape PathMarking System (FPEEPMS),
- the Lavatory Auxiliary Light,- the emergency Escape Hatch-handles(A319/A320),
- the escape route over the wing (A319/A320),- and the Door Escape Slides.
The Emergency Lighting System is controlled from thecockpit by the Flight Crew by a three position switch"EMER EXIT LT" located on the Overhead panel or fromthe cabin by the Cabin Attendants by the "EMER"pushbutton located on the Forward Attendant Panel(FAP).EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLIED UNITS (EPSUs) located in theCabin, allow the associated Emergency Lights to beelectrically supplied by the 28 VDC ESSential BUS, viathe EPSUs, or by integrated batteries when the 28 VDCESSential BUS is lost.
NOTE: Depending on the Emergency Lighting Systemchosen by the airline, additional Power SupplyUnits supply FPEEPM lights and exit signs.
CABIN EMERGENCY LIGHTS
Cabin Emergency Lights are installed throughout theCabin, in the main and cross aisle ceiling panels, inorder to provide illumination of the Cabin and ExitAreas.
EXIT SIGNS
The Emergency Lighting System provides illuminationof the EXIT MARKING signs and EXIT LOCATION signs,installed at the Aft/FWD Passenger/Crew Doors and atthe Emergency Exit doors.There are three types:- WALL-MOUNTED EXIT marking signs, one for each FWD/AftPassenger/Crew door and Emergency Exit door,- EXIT LOCATION sign, double sided, or single sidedfor the overwing Emergency Exits,- EXIT MARKING signs, for each Passenger/Crew door andone for each Emergency Exit door.One Escape Hatch-Handle Light is integrated on eachEmergency Exit door (A319/A320).
NOTE: The EXIT signs and associated lights can bemanually switched on from the NO SMOKING switchlocated on the overhead panel, or automaticallyin case of rapid decompression or with theSLAT/FLAP and/or LANDING GEAR condition(s).

FLOOR PROXIMITY EMERGENCY ESCAPE PATH MARKING SYSTEM(FPEEPMS).
The Emergency Lighting System provides power supplyof the FLOOR PROXIMITY EMERGENCY ESCAPE PATH MARKINGSYSTEM (FPEEPMS).The system consists of incandescent orelectroluminescent "EXIT" MARKER lights, installedimmediately adjacent to the Passenger/Crew doors andEmergency Exit doors, and LIGHT SEAT-MOUNTED or LIGHTSTRIPS ON FLOOR.This system provides low level illumination of thePassenger aisles and Escape routes if smoke obscuresthe normal Emergency Lighting.

LAVATORY AUXILIARY LIGHT
A Lavatory Auxiliary Light is installed in eachLavatory and is illuminated as long as the 28 VDC ESSBUS is available.
NOTE: The Lavatory Auxiliary Lights are the only lightsof the Emergency Lighting System not connectedto the EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY UNITS(EPSUs): Assoon as the 28VDC ESS BUS is lost, the LavatoryAuxiliary Lights are no longer supplied.
DOOR ESCAPE SLIDE LIGHTS
The Emergency Lighting System provides power supplyfor the integral lights installed in the Door EscapeSlides.The integral lights are switched on when the Slidesare armed and the Doors open.
EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY UNIT (EPSU)
EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLIED UNITS (EPSUs) located in theCabin, allow the associated Emergency Lights to beelectrically supplied by the 28 VDC ESSential BUS, viathe EPSUs, or by the EPSUs integrated batteries, ifthe 28 VDC ESSential BUS is lost.When the 28 VDC ESSential BUS is lost, the integratedbatteries can supply the Emergency Lighting System forat least 12 minutes.
CONTROLS
The Emergency Lighting System is controlled from thecockpit by the Flight Crew by a three position switch"EMER EXIT LT" located on the Overhead panel or fromthe cabin by the Cabin Attendants by the "EMER"pushbutton located on the FAP.
FROM THE COCKPIT:The EMER EXIT LIGHT(LT) selector allows the EmergencyLighting System to be manually or automaticallyactivated.
- OFF position: The Emergency Lighting System isnot supplied and the AMBER OFF light comes on.
- ARM position: If the Main Cabin Lighting Systemis lost or during Emergency conditions theEmergency Lighting System is automaticallysupplied by the 28 VDC ESSential BUS, via theEPSUs, or by the EPSUs integrated batteriesfor at least 12 minutes, if the 28 VDC ESSentialBUS is lost.
- ON position: The Emergency Lighting System isswitched on and supplied by the 28 VDC ESSentialBUS, through the EPSUs, or by the EPSUsintegrated batteries, if the 28 VDC ESSentialBUS is lost.
FROM THE CABIN:The EMER LIGHT pushbutton located on the FAP allowsthe Emergency Lighting System to be switched on.The EMER LIGHT pushbutton has the same function as theON position of the EMER EXIT LT selector on panel 25VU.

GENERAL
The emergency lighting system can be controlled fromthe cockpit or from the cabin.
COCKPIT EMER EXIT LT
The EMER EXIT LT switch located in the cockpit controlsall the emergency lighting system. This switch has three positions.In ON position, all the emergency lighting system comeson.When the doors are open with the slides armed, thelights integrated in the escape slide come on.When the emergency exit doors are open with the slidesarmed, the lights on the escape routes over the wingscome on.In ARM position, all the emergency lighting systemcomes on if the 115 VAC busbar fails.The emergency lighting system is supplied by the 28 VDCessential busbar.In case of failure of the 28 VDC essential busbar,batteries in each EPSU continue to supply the emergencylighting system for at least 12 minutes.In OFF position, the emergency lighting system is off.In off position, without AC and DC busbar voltage, aground signal prevents the emergency lighting systemfrom switching on.In off position, with the DC essential busbarenergized, the EMER EXIT LT OFF annunciator comes onamber.
COCKPIT NO SMOKING
The NO SMOKING switch located in the cockpit controlsthe EXIT signs and the emergency escape hatch handlelights.This switch has three positions.In ON position, the EXIT signs and the emergency escapehatch handle lights come on.In AUTO position, the EXIT signs and the emergencyescape hatch handle lights only come on when thelanding gear is extented.With the landing gear retracted the lights remain off.In OFF position, the EXIT signs and the emergencyescape hatch handle lights go off.

GENERAL
The emergency lighting system provides illuminationin case of failure of the main lighting system orduring emergency conditions.The Emergency Power Supply Units (EPSUs) supply allthese different lights.The emergency lights are equipped with 6VDC lamps.
ELECTRICAL SUPPLY
The Emergency Power Supply Units are supplied with28VDC from the Essential busbar for operation and115VAC from the Normal AC busbar voltage sensing.
EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY UNITS
The EPSUs supply the following lights:- Exit signs lights,- Cabin emergency lights,- Floor Proximity Emergency Escape Path Markinglights,
- Escape slide lights,- Overwing emergency lights,- and escape hatch-handle lights.
The EPSUs also monitor the correct voltage of the ACand DC busbars.The Emergency Power Supply Units (EPSUs) convert 28VDCinto 6 VDC to operate their associated lights. Aninternal 6VDC battery in each EPSU is chargedcontinuously when the Essential busbar is energized.

OPERATION
The EMER EXIT LT switch on the overhead panel controlsthe Emergency Lighting System.The EMER EXIT LT switch has three positions : OFF, ARMand ON. Each of these positions sends a discrete groundsignal to the Emergency Power Supply Units.
OFFIn the OFF position a ground signal prevents theEmergency Lighting System from being switched on whenthe AC and DC busbar voltages are not available.TheEMER EXIT LT OFF annunciator light comes on.Note : The EXIT SIGNS and the emergency escape
hatch-handle lights come on with EMER EXIT LTswitch OFF, when the NO SMOKING switch is inON position or in AUTO position with landinggear extended.
ARMIn the ARM position the EMER EXIT LT OFF annunciatorlight goes off.When the 115VAC busbar voltage is not avalaible, thecabin Emergency Lighting and the Floor ProximityEmergency Escape Path Marking lights System come on.The power is supplied from the 28VDC/6VDC converterin the corresponding EPSU.
When the 28VDC busbar voltage is not available, thebatteries of all EPSUs supply the Emergency LightingSystem for at least 12 minutes.The batteries are no longer charged.
ONIn the ON position the Emergency Lighting System comeson, as if the LIGHT EMER pushbutton on the ForwardAttendant Panel was pushed.The cabin emergency lights, the exit signs, the escapehatch-handle lights and the floor proximity lightscome on. The 28VDC/6VDC converters of the EPSUs supplythese loads as long as the 28VDC Essential busbar isavailable.
If the 28VDC busbar voltage falls below 16V, the EPSUsinternal batteries continue to supply the loads forat least 12 minutes.The batteries are no longer charged.
OTHER CASESIndependently of the switch positions, the integrallights in the respective escape slides come on whenthe passenger/crew doors or the emergency exit doorsare opened with the escape slides armed.
In the event of excessive cabin depressurization, theexit marking signs and the exit location signsautomatically come on.
TEST
The EPSUs have a test circuit which tests the conditionof the battery unit, the logic unit and the relatedloads.This test is first performed from the Programming andTest Panel, but if the BAT OK or SYS OK annunciatorlight does not come on, an isolated test must beperformed with the pushbutton located on each EPSU.T

GENERAL
The Emergency Lighting System provides illuminationin case of failure of the Main Lighting System orduring Emergency conditions.The Emergency Lighting System consists of :
- Emergency Power Supply Units (EPSUs),- 6VDC cabin emergency lights,- 6VDC exit marking signs,- 6VDC exit location signs,- 6VDC escape slide lights,- Power Supply Units,- 115VAC luminescent light strips,- 115VAC wall-mounted exit marking signs,- 28VDC lavatory auxiliary lights.
ELECTRICAL SUPPLY
The Emergency Power Supply Units are supplied with115VAC normal busbar and 28VDC Essential busbar.The Power Supply Units are supplied with 28VDCEssential busbar.
EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY UNITS
The Emergency Lighting System is equipped with twotypes of Power Supply Units.Emergency Power Supply Units supply cabin emergencylights, escape slide lights, and exit marking & exitlocation signs. They also monitor the correct voltageof the AC and DC busbars.The Emergency Power Supply Units (EPSUs) convert 28VDCinto 6VDC to operate their associated lights. Aninternal 6VDC battery in each EPSU is chargedcontinuously when the Essential busbar is energized.
The other type of Power Supply Units supply thefloor-proximity emergency escape path marking(FPEEPMS) lights and the wall-mounted exit markingsigns. It also monitors the correct voltage of the DCbusbar.The Power Supply Units convert 28VDC into 9.6VDC, andinvert 9.6VDC into 115VAC to operate their associatedlights. An internal 9.6VDC battery in each PSU ischarged continuously when the Essential busbar isenergized.

OPERATION
The EMER EXIT LT switch on the overhead panel controlsthe Emergency Lighting System.The EMER EXIT LT switch has three positions : OFF, ARMand ON. Each of these positions sends a discrete groundsignal to the two types of power supply units.
OFFIn the OFF position a ground signal prevents theEmergency Lighting System from being switched on whenthe AC and DC busbar voltages are not available.TheEMER EXIT LT OFF annunciator light comes on.Note : The EXIT SIGNS come on with EMER EXIT LT switch
OFF, when the NO SMOKING switch is in ON positionor in AUTO position with landing gear extended.
ARMIn the ARM position the EMER EXIT LT OFF annunciatorlight goes off.When the 115VAC busbar voltage is not avalaible, thecabin Emergency Lighting comes on. The power issupplied from the 28VDC/6VDC converter in thecorresponding EPSU.
When the 28VDC busbar voltage is not available, thebatteries of all EPSUs and Power Supply Units supplythe entire Emergency Lighting System for at least 12minutes.The batteries are no longer charged.
ONIn the ON position the Emergency Lighting System comeson, as if the LIGHT EMER pushbutton on the ForwardAttendant Panel was pushed.The cabin emergency lights, the exit signs and thefloor proximity lights come on. The power is suppliedthrough the 28VDC/6VDC converter in all EPSUs and bythe Power Supply Unit batteries.
If the 28VDC essential busbar voltage falls below 16V,the EPSU and Power Supply Unit batteries continue tosupply the loads for at least 12 minutes.The batteries are no longer charged.
OTHER CASESIndependently of the switch positions, the integrallights in the respective escape slides come on whenthe passenger/crew doors or the emergency exit doorsare opened with the escape slides armed.
In the event of excessive cabin depressurization, theexit marking signs and the exit location signsautomatically come on.
TEST
Only the EPSUs have a test circuit which tests thecondition of the battery unit, the logic unit and therelated loads.This test is first performed from the Programming andTest Panel, but if the BAT OK or SYS OK annunciatorlight does not come on, an isolated test must beperformed with the pushbutton located on each EPSU.

BATTERY CAPACITY TEST USING PTP
Before activating a test, it is necessary to set theNO SMOKING and the EMERGENCY LIGHTING switches to theOFF position.The battery capacity test indicates the batterycapacity condition of the Emergency Power Supply Units10WL thru 15WL.
The SYSTEM TEST function allows the following unitsto be tested on ground only:
- ACTIVE DIRECTOR,- CIDS BUS,- DEU A,- DEU B,- CAM,- PROG AND TEST PNL,- FWD ATTND PNL,- ADD ATTND PNLS,- ATTND IND PNLS,- LOUDSPEAKERS,- SIGN LAMPS,- AREA CALL PANELS,- PAX CALL LAMPS,- READING WORK LIGHTS,- EMER LIGHT BATTERY,- DRAINMASTS.
To prevent unauthorized access it is necessary to entera code for the battery test.The duration of the test will be up to two hours.During the test, it is possible to use the PTP forother functions.When the test is activated the BAT light in the BATkey comes on. An internal time count is started in theCIDS DIRECTOR.If the test is OK, the BAT OK light beside the BAT keycomes on.If there is a failure message on the PTP and ifannunciator light does not come on, you have to testeach EPSU with their individual test button.When the BAT TEST RESET has been selected, the BAT OKlight and the BAT key light go off.In case of a failure, the respective result will bewritten into directors GND SCAN memory.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING SYSTEM TEST
The System TEST mode, tests the Emergency LightingBattery and the whole of the Emergency Lighting System.The SYSTEM TEST is activated by selecting the "SYS"key at the bottom of the Programming and Test Panel(PTP).If the test is OK, the SYS OK light comes on.It goes off automatically after a few seconds.If no other test or program is running on the PTP, theSystem Test result appears on the PTP display.If a failure is present, the test result is stored inthe Director BITE ground memory.

A MAINTENANCE mode within the SYSTEM STATUS mode isincluded for detailed CIDS failure description.To gain access to this mode, first press the SYSTEMSTATUS key then the CONT key until the MAINTENANCEmode is reached.For detailed failure description, the maintenance modecan be entered directly by pressing the MAINTENANCEkey.Failures are stored in the Director’s BITEground/flight memory and can be read via this mode.The LAST LEG REPORT contains failures of the lastflight leg.The PREV LEGS REPORT contains failures of the 64previous flight legs.Flight legs without a failure produce no entries butflight leg counting will be incremented.Both reports include the date, the time and the ATAchapter for each failure.

- Electronic logic and switching circuits,- A 28VDC/6VDC converter which supplieselectrical power,
- A 6VDC battery which supplies the loads inabnormal configuration,
- A test circuit which tests the condition ofthe battery unit, the logic unit and the relatedloads.
ISOLATED EPSU TESTAn individual test on each EPSU must be performed whenthe test from the PTP shows a fault on the emergencylighting network.This isolated test starts when the test pushbutton ispushed.A defective EPSU will cause a red LED to come on andindicate which part is defective. The green SYSTEM OKLED indicates a serviceable EPSU.
